Amateur Recital — the free, repeating evacuation, and the Conquer it opens the same turn
Pieces
- Amateur Recital ×1
UNL-207 · engine
When you hold here, you may move a unit at a battlefield to its base.
Payoff
Deck
- Any legend: Amateur Recital is Colorless and the line needs no other card.
- TWO ready bodies, not one: one occupying the Recital so you control it at your Beginning Phase, one at your base to walk into the battlefield you empty.
Prerequisites
- The battlefield must be the one in play, and a deck may not carry two of it (Core Rules 103.4.c, Tournament Rules 402.1): random 1 of 3 in Duel (485.5) and Skirmish (487.5), chosen in Match (486.5). And 190.1 ('Control is established over Battlefields through the course of play') plus 190.6.d's second sentence ('If the battlefield has no Controller, "you" refers to no one, and all such instructions are ignored') mean the trigger does not exist until you have conquered your own Recital — that is part of the cost.
- THE ORDER IS THE TURN STRUCTURE, WHICH IS WHY THIS IS FREE WHERE charm-evacuate-conquer IS NOT. The Hold sits in the Scoring Step of the Beginning Phase (315.2.b.2) and the walk-in in the Main Phase (316), so the evacuation is always first. Charm has to be sequenced by hand, because entering a garrisoned battlefield first stages the Combat (323.9) and OPENS it (323.13) in the same Cleanup and 155 then bars the spell.
- EMPTYING IT GIVES YOU NOTHING BY ITSELF — 323.6 ONLY TAKES. 'Players lose control of any controlled Battlefields without their Units occupying them if the turn is in an Open State and there is no Showdown or Combat ongoing there.' The state qualifies: with the trigger resolved the chain is empty and no Combat or Showdown is in progress, which is 310.1 Neutral Open. Nobody has Priority there (312.2.a is Main-Phase only) but 323.6 asks about the STATE, not about Priority. The battlefield ends unoccupied and uncontrolled, i.e. 'open' in the sense of 170.11.c.
- THE CONQUER, RULE BY RULE, AND IT SCORES THE SAME TURN. A ready body Standard-Moves from your base (144.4.a; the cost is its own exhaust, 420.3.a) and applies Contested (450, 190.3.a.1). The next Cleanup stages a Showdown (323.8) and NO Combat, because 323.9 requires 'Units present controlled by opposing players'; 323.12 opens it, 345 gives you Focus, 348 closes it, 348.2.a establishes Control and 348.2.a.1 says outright 'This results in a Conquer if that player has not yet scored that Battlefield this turn'. 469.1 makes it a Score and 471.1 gives the point. 466.5 is NOT the route here and is not cited: it is a step of the Combat Resolution Step, and no Combat is ever opened.
- THE ARITHMETIC WITH THE QUANTITIES DECLARED: 2 POINTS PER TURN, AND THAT IS THE CEILING. Point 1 is the Recital's own Hold (469.2, 471.1); point 2 is the Conquer of the other battlefield. 470 caps Scoring at once per Battlefield per turn and a Duel has exactly two (485.4), so this line reaches the maximum a turn can hold without dealing or taking any combat damage. Cost: 0 Energy, 0 Power and 0 cards for the evacuation, plus one body and its exhaust for the walk-in.
- IT MOVES ONE UNIT, SO IT CLOSES ONLY AGAINST A GARRISON OF EXACTLY ONE. Against two or more, 323.6 never fires and the trigger achieves nothing. Same ceiling charm-evacuate-conquer declares; renekton-stare-down-evacuate is the card that scales instead, and it is a Body spell, not a battlefield.
- THE DENIAL HALF, TAKEN ALONE, NETS THE OPPONENT ZERO POINTS. Emptying their battlefield without walking in costs them their Hold (469.2 needs Control during their Beginning Phase) but hands them a Conquer when they walk back in on their turn (348.2.a.1) — a Score either way. The value is that YOU take the free Conquer first, in the window between.
- [Deflect] TAXES IT, AND THE TAX IS PAYABLE IN THE BEGINNING PHASE. The moved unit is chosen by the ability's controller, so 355.10 makes it a target and 355.10.d's programmatic-selection exemption does not apply (that is what separates this from renekton-stare-down-evacuate). 809.1.c / 809.1.d price it at the Deflect Value in Power, of any domain (809.1.c.1). The Rune Pool is empty then (167), but 164.2.b ('Recycle this: [Reaction] — Add [C]') carries no exhaust and 429.3 lets a Reaction Add be made 'at any time that spells or abilities require resources be paid', inside the Closed State the trigger itself opened (310.2, 312.2.c/d, 813.1.c.1) — the same mechanism power-nexus-sentinel uses to pay in the Beginning Phase.
- IT IS A MOVE, NOT A RECALL, AND THE DIFFERENCE CUTS BOTH WAYS. 455 defines a Recall as relocation to a base 'without it being a Move', and this card says move, so 456.1 does not apply: 'when I move' abilities on the evacuated unit DO fire, including the opponent's. What does hold is the other half — the unit ends at its base, so any 'While I'm at a battlefield' text it carries switches off, and that is part of the denial.
- THE OPPONENT GETS A REAL WINDOW. While the trigger is on the chain the state is Neutral Closed (310.2), 312.2.c/312.2.d hand out Priority and 813.1.c.1 lets a [Reaction] card be played 'during Closed States on any player's turn'. The same window #62 found for [Temporary]. They can also break the Showdown in your Main Phase by removing the body you walked in.
- AIMING IT AT YOUR OWN GARRISON IS A FOOTGUN THE 'may' EXISTS TO AVOID: moving your own last body off a battlefield you control hands 323.6 your own Control.
- THE MAIN-PHASE WALK-IN HAS A FROM-HAND ALTERNATIVE, WHICH MAKES THE SECOND READY BODY OPTIONAL (issue #146, walked 2026-09-06). This entry already reads the word correctly — the battlefield it opens is 'unoccupied and uncontrolled, i.e. open in the sense of 170.11.c'. What it did not say is that four printings can be played straight into it against 355.2.a's default ('the controller's Base or a Battlefield the controller controls'), under 355.2.b ('Some Game Effects may grant players permission to play Units to locations that are not normally Valid'): OGN-176 Sneaky Deckhand (E3 M2), OGN-193 Miss Fortune, Buccaneer (E4 P1 M4), OGN-174 Sai Scout (E6 M5) and VEN-115 Ocean Drake (E8 P2 M7) — all mono-Chaos, none banned, none signature: true. 190.3.a.1 covers the verb — 'Units moving to OR BEING PLAYED TO a battlefield apply Contested status …' — so Contested lands and the route of step 6 is unchanged; 450 speaks only of 'the Unit or Units that moved' and is not the citation for this half. The consequence is on this entry's own easy prerequisite, 'TWO ready bodies, not one': only the body holding the Recital has to be ready, because the walker is bought with Energy instead of with a Standard Move and its exhaust (144.2 / 420.3.a). 143.4 ('Units enter the Board exhausted') costs nothing here, since 323.9 never stages a Combat on this route. Amateur Recital is Colorless, so 103.1.b imposes nothing and any legend with Chaos runs all four. Not added to uses: uses is what the matcher and planDeck price, and the entry's declared line is the battlefield plus one Standard Move.
- A SECOND EVACUATOR ADDS NOTHING HERE, AND THE REASON IS ARITHMETIC, NOT RULES (issue #146, walked 2026-09-06). OGN-191 Maddened Marauder ('When you play me, move a unit from a battlefield to its base') and OGN-188 Zaunite Bouncer ('When you play me, return another unit at a battlefield to its owner's hand') are the pool's two body-attached evacuators and reach an enemy garrison for the same reason this entry's own unqualified-'a unit' reading does (355.9.a.1, with OGN-168 Fight or Flight as the pool evidence). They are redundant against the Recital rather than additive: the Recital's own Hold trigger is the free, repeating evacuation and it is already there, and a Duel has exactly two battlefields (485.4) of which you control the Recital — so there is one enemy battlefield and one evacuation to make. Recorded so the next hunt does not re-propose them. Neither could take the battlefield in any case: neither carries the 355.2.b permission, and the play location is fixed at 355.2 during the play steps, before the Cleanup of 323.6 opens anything.
Bodies no card supplies
Board state: you control Amateur Recital with a body on it; the opponent's battlefield is garrisoned by exactly one unit TWO, NOT ONE: the body HOLDING this battlefield cannot be the body that walks into the second. 144.4.a and 144.4.b confine the Standard Move to base-to-battlefield and back, and 144.4.c.1 makes battlefield-to-battlefield a `[Ganking]` privilege this line does not name — so the walker must come from the BASE while the holder stays put, and for a Hold line the holder must stay or 323.6 strips the Control the Score is paid on (corrected 2026-09-13, #200).
Steps
- Board state: you control Amateur Recital with a body on it; the opponent's battlefield is garrisoned by exactly one unit.
- Your Beginning Phase, Scoring Step (315.2.b.2): you Hold the Recital — 469.2, 471.1, point 1 — and its trigger goes on the chain (383.3.c).
- The trigger resolves: move the opponent's single defender to its base (449, a Move by effect; not a Recall, 455; no exhaust, since 420.3.a prices only the Standard Move).
- The Cleanup that 453 requires (held until the chain empties, 321 / 321.1) strips their Control at 323.6. The battlefield is now open (170.11.c).
- Your Main Phase: Standard-Move a ready body from your base into it (144.4.a, cost 420.3.a). 450 and 190.3.a.1 apply Contested.
- The next Cleanup stages a Showdown (323.8) and no Combat (323.9) and opens it (323.12); it closes when all pass (348), 348.2.a establishes Control and 348.2.a.1 makes it a Conquer: point 2 by 471.1.
Per iteration
2 points per turn — the Recital's own Hold plus a Conquer of the other battlefield — for 0 Energy, 0 Power, 0 cards and one body's Standard Move
How it ends
engine — 2 points a turn, which 470 and the two battlefields of a Duel (485.4) make the per-turn ceiling; it never compounds, and it stops the moment the opponent garrisons with two bodies

HAND-WALKED 2026-09-06 (docs/phase0/walks/2026-09-06-battlefield-lens-candidates.md), issue #102 candidate 1, REWRITTEN in four places. (1) #102 never says when Control changes hands: 323.6 only makes the opponent LOSE it, and the Conquer needs a body walked in during the Main Phase — the entry now spells out both halves and cites the Showdown route (323.8 / 323.12 / 348.2.a / 348.2.a.1) instead of #102's '466.5.b / 466.5.d (o 348.2.a...)', since 466.5 is a step of the Combat Resolution Step and no Combat is ever opened here. (2) #102's '315.2.b.2: el Hold corre una vez por Beginning Phase' conflates where the Hold happens with why it is capped: 315.2.b.2 is 'The Turn Player Holds all Battlefields they Control', the cap is 470 and the definition is 469.2. (3) The denial half taken alone nets the opponent zero points, because 348.2.a.1 gives them a Conquer when they walk back in; that is now a notable. (4) It moves ONE unit, so it closes only against a garrison of one — #102 does not say so. The walk also adds the evidence #102 lacks for its unqualified-'a unit' reading: OGN-168 Fight or Flight prints the same sentence and is banned in both formats as removal. Card text verbatim from data/corpus_flat.txt. Ban check: UNL-207 carries no [BANNED marker; OGN-168 is banned and is cited only as evidence, never used. Arithmetic against its own declared quantities: 1 battlefield, 1 enemy unit moved, 2 points, which 470 plus 485.4 make the per-turn ceiling. Trap check: no attack is ever declared (no Combat is staged, 323.9); no Energy is banked across 167/316.3; no [Repeat]; no [Temporary]; no token; the evacuation is a Move and not a Recall (455). One question was deliberately NOT filed as a reading: whether [Deflect] prices a Triggered Ability at all, given 809.1.c says 'to play'. The entry is written under the stricter reading (it does, and the Power is made at Reaction speed by 429.3 + 164.2.b), so it stands either way. REFINED 2026-09-06 (issue #146, docs/phase0/walks/2026-09-06-chaos-units-lens.md): two notables, no change to class, quantities, uses or steps. The first adds the four 355.2.b 'play me to an open battlefield' printings as a from-hand walk-in, which makes this entry's second ready body optional, and cites 190.3.a.1 for 'being played to' rather than 450, which is written about units that moved. The second records that OGN-191 Maddened Marauder and OGN-188 Zaunite Bouncer are redundant here — one enemy battlefield in a Duel (485.4) and the Recital already evacuates it for free — so a later hunt does not re-propose them. This entry needed no correction to its 'open' clause; it was the only one of the three in the family already citing 170.11.c in full. Citations opened for this refinement: 103.1.b, 143.4, 170.11.c, 190.3.a.1, 355.2, 355.2.a, 355.2.b, 355.9.a.1, 449, 450, 485.4. Ban check: OGN-174, OGN-176, OGN-188, OGN-191, OGN-193 and VEN-115 carry no [BANNED marker and are all signature: false.
