Deck
- SFD-198 Arise! is a SIGNATURE card tagged Azir, so 103.2.d.2 forces a Azir legend that also covers calm + order: SFD-197 Emperor of the Sands — the only one. Domain-legal legends without the Azir tag cannot run the list. (Rebuilt from the census by test/legend-lines.test.ts, 2026-09-07; an earlier line named legends that cannot hold a Azir Signature card.)
Prerequisites
- THE SPELL'S OWN SECOND SENTENCE IS THE MEASURE OF WHAT RENATA IS WORTH HERE. 'Ready up to two of them' exists because 143.4 makes units enter exhausted; 143.4.a admits the alteration and R25 = A (ruled 2026-09-04) settles that Renata's replacement beats a card's own wording about how a token enters. So with her on the board every Sand Soldier is ready, and the spell's readying clause becomes dead text rather than the cap.
- WHY READY MATTERS AT ALL, PRECISELY: 144.2 makes exhausting the unit the cost of the Standard Move, so an exhausted token cannot walk on the turn it is made — #48's bottleneck — and 144.3 lets any number of READY units move as ONE game action to a shared destination (144.3.a). Six Sand Soldiers made and walked to a battlefield in the same Main Phase is the difference between this and the printed card.
- THE COUNT IS YOUR EQUIPMENT COUNT, which is why this belongs in a gear shell rather than a token shell. Three Svellsongur (SFD-059) is three Soldiers; add three Trinity Force (SFD-115) and it is six. Both are Equipment by tag and both are already the engines of other entries, so the Sand Soldiers are a second product from a board you were building anyway.
- They are 2 Might each, not 1 — better than a Recruit and worse than a Mech — so a garrison of six is 12 Might, which 465.2.c prices at 12 damage with 465.2.c.3 forcing lethal one body at a time.
- Six Energy and 1 Power for the spell plus Renata's 4 Energy and 1 Order Power, and 103.2.b caps the spell at three casts a game. This is a burst of bodies, not an engine that ticks — its produces is token-body-engine because that is the vocabulary for what it hands to a consumer, not a claim that it repeats.
- Sibling: arise-sand-soldiers-plaza runs the same spell into The Grand Plaza with Eye of the Herald and Desert's Call and does not carry Renata at all. This row is the Renata half on its own, so a deck that already has her does not have to buy the whole Plaza package to use it.
Steps
- Have Renata Glasc, Industrialist on the board (4 Energy + 1 Order Power) and a spread of Equipment you control.
- Cast Arise! (6 Energy + 1 Power). It plays one 2-Might Sand Soldier unit token for each Equipment you control.
- Every one of them enters READY (Renata, R25 = A), not just the two the spell would have readied — 143.4.a admits the alteration of 143.4.
- Standard-move all of them to one battlefield as a single game action (144.3, 144.3.a, 144.4.a). No Energy is paid; 144.2 charges only their exhaust, which they can now afford.
- Hand the garrison to whatever consumes bodies — a Conquer, a Plaza, or a sacrifice outlet.
How it ends
engine — one 2-Might ready body per Equipment you control, three times a game

AUTHORED 2026-09-06 from issue #160. SFD-198 was an uncatalogued partner of renata-industrialist-tokens (73 partners, 5 entries). Card text verbatim from data/corpus_flat.txt; 103.2.b, 143.4, 143.4.a, 144.2, 144.3, 144.3.a, 144.4.a, 465.2.c and 465.2.c.3 opened in the Core Rules file. Stands on R25 = A (ruled 2026-09-04); no new reading. The entry is written around the one thing that makes this pairing worth a row rather than a note: Arise! is the only token maker in the pool whose own text tries to solve the exhausted-token problem and only half solves it, so Renata's replacement is visibly worth the difference.
