187.9 + 485.4: the Baron Pit is a THIRD battlefield in a Duel, so the per-turn Score ceiling is 3 and not 2 - and 471.1.a.1 keeps the Hold half of it free
Pieces
- Baron Nashor ×3
UNL-147 · engine · chaos
As you play me, add the Baron Pit battlefield token to the board if it's not there already. If you do, I enter there. (It has "Units can move here from anywhere.") I can't be chosen by enemy spells and abilities. Other friendly units have +2 Might.
- Illaoi, Prophet of the Great Kraken ×3
VEN-109 · payoff · chaos
When you play me or when I score, play a 1 Energy Might Tentacle unit token from Bilgewater. I have +1 Might for each token unit you control.

Deck
- Both cards are mono-Chaos, so 103.1.b.3 admits them under any legend with Chaos among its two domains. Measured over data/cards.json on 2026-09-09, those are the sixteen names OGN-251 / OGN-301 Loose Cannon (fury/chaos), OGN-259 / OGN-305 Unforgiven (calm/chaos), OGN-263 / OGN-307 Swift Scout (mind/chaos), OGN-267 / OGN-309 Bounty Hunter (body/chaos), OGS-017 Dark Child - Starter (fury/chaos), SFD-185 / SFD-242 Glorious Executioner (fury/chaos), SFD-195 / SFD-246 Blade Dancer (calm/chaos), SFD-199 / SFD-248 Prodigal Explorer (mind/chaos), SFD-203 / SFD-250 Battle Mistress (body/chaos), UNL-185 / UNL-228 Bloodharbor Ripper (fury/chaos), UNL-193 / UNL-232 Gloomist (calm/chaos), UNL-197 / UNL-234 Scorn of the Moon (mind/chaos), UNL-201 / UNL-236 Voidreaver (body/chaos), VEN-143 / VEN-191 Master of Shadows (fury/chaos), VEN-151 / VEN-195 Soul's Reflection (mind/chaos) and VEN-155 / VEN-197 Heart of the Tempest (order/chaos).
- Neither card is a Signature card and neither is a legend, so 103.2.d.2 forces nothing (checked against data/cards.json 2026-09-09: UNL-147 signature false, VEN-109 signature false). Legality checked against data/legality.json on 2026-09-09 - UNL-147, VEN-109 and the UNL-T01 Baron Pit token appear in no format's ban or restriction list.
- The Baron is E10 plus 3 Chaos Power, which is a whole turn's mana in a normal curve; the line is a late-game engine and says so.
Prerequisites
- THE FINDING IS THAT 485.4 IS A SETUP PARAMETER AND NOT A CAP. 485.4 reads 'Battlefield Count: 2' and 485.5 places one battlefield from each player, which is where this project's standing 'two Scores a turn is the hard ceiling in a Duel' comes from - 470 caps Scoring 'once per Battlefield per turn' and there are two Battlefields. UNL-147 Baron Nashor adds a third one mid-game, and the ceiling moves with it: 315.2.b.2 Holds ALL Battlefields you Control, so three controlled Battlefields are three Scores a turn.
- AND THE RULES DEFINE THE TOKEN THEMSELVES, WHICH IS WHY THIS IS NOT A READING. 187.9: 'The Baron Pit battlefield token is a domainless battlefield token with "Units can move here from anywhere."' The card text and 187.9 agree word for word, and UNL-T01 Baron Pit is printed in the pool with its own parenthetical, '(You can't start the game with a token battlefield.)' - so it is reachable only through the Baron.
- THE TENSION IS REAL AND RULE 002 RESOLVES IT. 170.2.a says 'Battlefields are not played during the course of regular play' and 170.2.b says they 'are established at the start of a game and remain in place for the duration of regular play.' The Baron contradicts both, and 002 - 'Card text supersedes rules text. Whenever a card fundamentally contradicts the rules, the card's indication is what is true' - is why the card wins. Nothing in 170.2 is a prohibition on an effect adding one.
- ONCE IT IS THERE, NOTHING IN THE POOL REMOVES IT, AND THAT IS THREE SEPARATE PARAGRAPHS. 170.3 'Battlefields cannot be Killed during the course of regular play', 170.4 'Battlefields cannot be Moved', and 185.2.e, whose worked example ends 'Token battlefields and legends can't be recycled.' 186.1's usual token trap - a token ceases to exist the moment it enters a Non-Board Zone - never engages, because there is no route to a Non-Board Zone. The Pit is permanent for both players.
- THE BARON CONQUERS THE BATTLEFIELD HE CREATES, ON ARRIVAL. He enters at the Pit (369.3 makes that last sentence a Replacement Effect on where he enters), 190.3.a.1 applies Contested status to 'units moving to or being played to a battlefield', and with no opposing units there 344.2 opens a Showdown at the next Cleanup rather than staging a Combat. 348.2.a establishes Control and 348.2.a.1 says 'This results in a Conquer if that player has not yet scored that Battlefield this turn' - and a Battlefield created this turn has certainly not been Scored. One point on the turn he lands, with no attack and no damage.
- THE PRICE IS PRINTED IN 471.1.b.1 AND IT IS PAID ONLY BY A CONQUER DECK. 'If the player has Scored every Battlefield this turn, that player Gains the Final Point. If the player has not Scored every Battlefield this turn, that player draws a card instead.' EVERY Battlefield - so the Pit makes a Conquer-based eighth point need three instead of two. 471.1.a.1 is the escape: 'Notably, points Gained from sources that are not Conquer are not beholden to these restrictions', and 469 makes Hold a Score that is not a Conquer. A HOLD deck therefore adds the Pit at no cost at all, and this line is a Hold deck.
- WHY ILLAOI IS THE PARTNER AND NOT A BIGGER BODY. Three controlled Battlefields need bodies at all three, because 323.6 strips Control from any Battlefield 'without their Units occupying them' at the next Cleanup. VEN-109 mints exactly one body a turn from a Score she is present for, and 187.10 defines what it is - 'A 1 Might Tentacle token is a domainless unit token with 1 Might and the Bilgewater tag' - a 1-Might body, which this project has measured as the fragile size: 143.2.a kills on marked damage equal to Might and OGN-133 Flurry of Blades deals 1 to all units at battlefields for 1 Energy. The Baron's own last sentence answers it: 'Other friendly units have +2 Might' makes every Tentacle a 3, board-wide, permanently, with no 702.3 buff cap involved.
- 355.2.a IS WHY THE TENTACLE NEEDS NO WALK. A token with no printed destination is played to 'the controller's Base or a Battlefield the controller controls', so it can be placed at whichever of your three Battlefields is thin - the walk-to-the-battlefield bottleneck this project records for token lines does not apply to a Battlefield you already control. It does apply to the Pit before the Baron takes it, and it is the reason he has to land there himself.
- THE ARITHMETIC, WITH ITS QUANTITIES. Turn N: Baron Nashor for 10 Energy + 3 Chaos Power creates the Pit and Conquers it (1 point). Turn N+1 onward: 315.2.b.2 Holds every Battlefield you control - your own, the opponent's if you took it, and the Pit - and 468.1 makes every instance of Scoring an instance of Gaining points, so that is up to 3 a turn against the 2 a normal Duel deck can reach. Illaoi adds one Tentacle per turn to keep the garrisons alive. 103.2.b caps each at 3 copies; a second Baron does nothing, because his own text says 'if it's not there already'.
- THE PIT CUTS BOTH WAYS AND THE ENTRY SAYS SO. 187.9's movement clause names no player, so 190.6.d - which blanks only the word 'you' in a Battlefield's abilities - never fires, and the opponent may move to the Pit from anywhere as freely as you can. What holds it is UNL-147 himself: Might 12 with 'I can't be chosen by enemy spells and abilities', which 054.1 makes an absolute prohibition rather than the [Deflect] tax of 809.1.c, so removing him costs a combat rather than a card.
- 483.4 IS THE PARAGRAPH THIS LINE`S CEILING ARGUMENT WAS DERIVED WITHOUT (upgrade 2026-09-12, #187 batch 7). This catalogue cites 485.4 two hundred and seventy-four times and 483.1 through 483.8 ZERO times - and 483 is where those field names are defined. **483.4: *"Battlefield Count: Determines how many Battlefields are in play, contributed by players, during play."*** The Duel`s Count of 2 is a count of battlefields CONTRIBUTED BY PLAYERS, and a battlefield token added by a card is contributed by a CARD, so it is outside the Count by the field`s own definition rather than by an argument from 485.4 read against 485.4.a. 483.4.b is the general statement behind that pair (*"This may involve utilizing less Battlefields than there are players"*), and 483.6 - *"Format: Conditions to win or additional rules added over play"* - is the field 489.3`s Victory Score of 11 instantiates.
- A BLOODLESS CONQUER IS NOT A FAIT ACCOMPLI, AND 46 OF THE 47 ENTRIES CITING 344.2 DID NOT SAY SO (added 2026-09-12, #187 batch 25). **316.8.b.1.a**: during a Non-Combat Showdown *"units controlled by a different player may become present at the Battlefield where the Showdown is"*, which converts it to a COMBAT Showdown in the following cleanup - so the opponent can turn your uncontested walk-in into a fight. 316.8.c is the permission (a Showdown is a Window of Opportunity for [Action] and [Reaction] cards). **The answer set is THREE CARDS, swept on the ACTOR rather than on the destination**: `OGN-173 Ride the Wind` (Chaos, E2+1), `OGN-262 Zenith Blade` (Calm/Order, E3+2) and `SFD-184 Relentless Pursuit` (Fury/Body, E2+1) - twelve printings move a friendly unit, and nine of them send it to base or need a body already there. They span three identities, so **no identity is safe**; and `OGN-262 Zenith Blade` is the worst to walk into, because it STUNS your body on the way in, and 423.1.b removes a stunned unit`s contribution to the damage step while 423.1.c keeps its full Might as the price to kill it - one 3-Energy card takes the unit and the battlefield. **[Ambush] is not a fourth answer**: 822.1.b needs a battlefield where the player already has units, and the defining feature of that board is that they have none there. **THE REMEDY IS A COUNTERSPELL, AND A FIRST VERSION OF THIS NOTABLE SAID SOMETHING FALSE THAT IS WITHDRAWN HERE (corrected within the hour, 2026-09-12).** It said that because all three answers are [Action] and 358.4 admits an Action card only as the card that CLOSES the state, the attacker - who holds Focus by 345 and priority by 335.1 - could shut them out by playing any cheap Action card first. Every step is true and the conclusion is false, because **a Showdown is a LOOP, not a single window**: 346 - *"When the last item on the chain resolves and the turn returns to an Open State during a Showdown, Focus passes, and the next Player gains both Focus and Priority"* - with 347.1.b and 347.2.a. Closing the state buys a lock-out lasting exactly that CHAIN; when it resolves the Showdown reopens, Focus passes TO THE DEFENDER, and they play their answer into an open Showdown after all. **The real sequence**: walk in, take Focus, **PASS** (acting first gains nothing); they play the answer, which closes the state as it is played; **you COUNTER it**, since 358.4`s other half now admits only [Reaction] and all eleven of the pool`s counters are Reaction, and 425.1.c refunds them nothing; all players then pass in sequence, 347.2.a ends the Showdown, and 348.2.a with 348.2.a.1 give you Control and the Conquer. The cheap counter is `OGN-045 Defy` (Calm, E1 + 1 Power, *"counter a spell that costs no more than 4 Energy and no more than one rainbow"*), which covers all three answers; `OGN-064 Wind Wall` is the unconditional one. **So the protection narrows to pairs containing CALM** - it is not the one-Energy insurance any deck can buy.
Steps
- Play VEN-109 Illaoi, Prophet of the Great Kraken (6 Energy) at or to a battlefield you control. Her play trigger mints the first 1 Might Tentacle (187.10).
- Play UNL-147 Baron Nashor (10 Energy + 3 Chaos Power). 'As you play me, add the Baron Pit battlefield token to the board if it's not there already' puts UNL-T01 on the table - a third Battlefield in a two-Battlefield Duel (485.4) - and 369.3 replaces where he enters so that he enters at the Pit.
- 190.3.a.1 applies Contested status to the Pit because he was played there and you do not control it. No opposing units are present, so 344.2 opens a Showdown at the next Cleanup instead of 323.9 staging a Combat.
- 348.2.a establishes your Control at the close of that Showdown, and 348.2.a.1 makes it a Conquer because you have not yet Scored that Battlefield this turn. One point, with no attack and no damage.
- From the next Beginning Phase, 315.2.b.2 Holds every Battlefield you Control. Keep a body at each: the Baron stands at the Pit, Illaoi at one battlefield, and her Tentacles fill the third - 355.2.a lets each token be played straight to a battlefield you control.
- The Baron's 'Other friendly units have +2 Might' makes every 1 Might Tentacle a 3, which is what keeps OGN-133 Flurry of Blades from clearing the garrisons for 1 Energy (143.2.a).
- Score up to three a turn. The eighth point through a Hold is unrestricted (471.1.a.1); through a Conquer it now needs all three Battlefields Scored that turn (471.1.b.1) - so take it on a Hold.
How it ends
engine - up to 3 points a turn instead of the 2 a Duel normally allows, for as long as you hold three Battlefields; the opponent takes a turn in between, so it is not a CHAIN, and nothing here reaches 8 in one turn

HAND-WALKED 2026-09-09 (issue #187, sub-rule lane 100-299). 187.9, 187.10, 170.2.a, 170.2.b, 170.3, 170.4 and 185.2.e are cited by NO entry and NO synergy rule in this project (measured over data/combos.json and data/synergies.json on 2026-09-09), and the Baron Pit's existence as a playable Battlefield appears nowhere: of the ten entries that use UNL-147, the only one that mentions the Pit is shady-spectacles-baron-copy, which says only that copying him does not create a second one. Card text verbatim from data/corpus_flat.txt. Legality checked against data/legality.json on 2026-09-09: UNL-147, VEN-109 and UNL-T01 are absent from every format's ban and restriction list. 'Two Conquers per turn is the hard ceiling in a Duel' is derived from 470 plus 485.4's Battlefield Count of 2, and 485.4 is a SETUP parameter, not a cap - UNL-147 Baron Nashor adds a third Battlefield mid-game and nothing in the pool can remove it (170.3, 170.4, 185.2.e), so the ceiling is 3 for any deck willing to pay E10 + 3 Power. The complement is 471.1.b.1: with three Battlefields on the table a CONQUER-based eighth point needs all three Scored in one turn, while 471.1.a.1 leaves a HOLD-based eighth point untouched. Trap check: 190.6.d cannot blank the Pit's movement clause because that clause says 'Units', not 'you', so it serves the opponent too; a second Baron does nothing ('if it's not there already'); 323.6 costs you the Pit the moment its garrison leaves; no unruled reading. Twin: baron-pit-fae-porter-reach-from-anywhere walks the same token's MOVEMENT clause rather than its scoring arithmetic.
