Payoff
Deck
- Legend domains cover Body and Chaos — Battle Mistress is the legend (103.1.b).
Prerequisites
- The trigger is wider than its wording suggests, but NOT universal. 164.2.b makes the second printed ability of every Basic Rune 'Recycle this: [Reaction] — Add [C]', so a rune recycle is the DEFAULT way Power is produced and most Power costs you pay offer Battle Mistress her trigger. CORRECTED by the 2026-09-04 walk: a pool sweep for [Add] finds 12 printings that add Power WITHOUT recycling a rune — the six Seals (OGN-040, OGN-081, OGN-120, OGN-163, OGN-204, OGN-245), UNL-T05 Gold itself, UNL-049 Honeyfruit, OGN-113 Malzahar and two use-restricted legends. OGN-204 Seal of Discord is Chaos, so it is legal in this very deck and every Power it makes bypasses her.
- It is a PARTIAL REFUND, never profit. 161.2.b and 416.1.b send the recycled rune to the Rune Deck for good; that rune would have made 1 Energy every turn (164.2.a), while the Gold makes 1 Power once (187.5). She makes paying Power cheaper, not free. CORRECTED 2026-10-24 (#452): not for good. 416.1.b: 'Runes are Recycled to the Rune Deck.' 430.1 channels it again when the deck reaches it, so a recycled rune is off the board on every turn until the Rune Deck runs dry, which once a rune is recycled is T7 at the earliest going first and T6 at the earliest going second with only the Channel Phase's two a turn (161.2.a, 315.3.b, 485.7); each two more runes recycled push it a turn later, and a card that channels more (430.2) brings it back sooner. So 'every turn' holds until then, and the refund is still partial.
- Twisted Fate is the exception that costs nothing: he recycles the top rune of your Rune DECK, which was already there, so his trigger is free value rather than a rune traded away.
- Twisted Fate needs the Attacker designation, which exists only inside a Combat with a garrison (383.4.e, 461) — moving into an EMPTY enemy battlefield triggers nothing. And 383.4.e.2.a checks an attack trigger only once per combat.
- The Gold enters exhausted, and SFD-171 Renata Glasc, Industrialist is Order, outside this identity — R25 does not apply here, so every Gold is next-turn Power. Kill it in the Main Phase: 167 empties the Rune Pool at the Main Phase start and 167.1 loses anything unspent.
- Battle Mistress exhausts for each Gold, so without enemy deaths it is one Gold per turn; 'when one or more enemy units die, ready me' re-arms her once per wave, not once per death.
- 'Ready your units' does NOT ready Battle Mistress. 175 — 'Legends are not Permanents' — and a Legend is its own card type, not a Unit, so SFD-204 re-arms the board for a second combat but never the legend. Only her own 'when one or more enemy units die, ready me' does that.
Steps
- Any turn you pay a Power cost, the rune you recycle to produce it (164.2.b) offers Battle Mistress her trigger: exhaust her, play a Gold gear token exhausted.
- Twisted Fate attacks a garrisoned battlefield: 'reveal the top rune of your rune deck, then recycle it'. That recycle is board-neutral, so it is a free extra trigger on top of the revealed rune's own mode (2 damage to an enemy unit here / draw 1 / stun).
- When one or more enemy units die, Battle Mistress readies and can convert the next recycle too. On the Hunt (1E 2P) readies your UNITS for a second combat — not the legend (175) — and its own 2 Power payment recycles two more runes.
- In your next Awaken the Golds ready; kill them during your Main Phase for 1 Power each.
How it ends
engine — one Gold per rune recycle while she is ready, so about one per turn and two or three in a turn with enemy deaths; each Gold is 1 Power the following turn

HAND-WALKED 2026-09-04 (docs/phase0/walks/2026-09-04-nine-domain-lens-candidates.md), issue #29. UNIFIED ENTRY: L7 (C2) and L8 (B6) reached SFD-203 independently from opposite sides and each had half the picture. L8 found the wide surface — 164.2.b means every Power payment recycles a rune, so the trigger is not the dead letter it looks like. L7 found the free one — OGN-200 recycles the top of the Rune DECK, not a rune on your board, and a grep of all 935 cards for rune-recycling text returns only three sources: OGN-200 (free), OGN-287 Sigil of the Storm ('you must recycle one of your runes', a board rune, so a net loss) and OGN-244 Divine Judgment (catastrophic). Both halves are recorded above because they are both true and neither alone is the whole line. body+chaos is the one pair of the fifteen where NO catalogued entry crosses the two domains. Card text verified verbatim against data/corpus_flat.txt on 2026-09-04. Trap check: the rune recycled by a Power payment leaves the board for good and the entry says so; the Gold is not [Temporary] (187.5); no Awaken Energy. WALK: holds after a rewrite. The entry's own key claim was too strong — it said EVERY Power cost offers the trigger, and a pool sweep for [Add] found 12 printings that add Power without recycling a rune, including OGN-204 Seal of Discord, which is Chaos and therefore legal in this deck. 164.2.b is quoted correctly; 'every' was not. Also corrected: 175 means 'Ready your units' never re-arms the legend. What survives is the load-bearing half — OGN-200 recycles off the top of the RUNE DECK (416.1, 416.1.b), so it is the only board-neutral rune recycle in the pool, and the refund arithmetic (a rune worth 1 Energy every turn traded for a Gold worth 1 Power once) is stated honestly. The refund arithmetic stands for those turns.
