Combo · ENGINE
[Equip] is payable once per ATTACHMENT, not once per game — 719.5 detaches the Blade onto the board when its carrier dies and 457.1 walks it home
Pieces
- Blade of the Ruined King ×3
SFD-178 · payoff · order
[Equip] — 1 Order Power, Kill a friendly unit (Pay the cost: Attach this to a unit you control.)
- Vanguard Armory ×1
SFD-168 · engine · order
Exhaust: Play three 1 Might Recruit unit tokens. (You may play them to different locations.)
Payoff
Deck
- Both cards are mono-Order, so 103.1.b.3 admits them under any legend with Order among its two domains - measured over data/cards.json, 32 legend base codes qualify, among them OGN-253 / OGN-302 Hand of Noxus (fury/order), OGN-261 / OGN-306 Radiant Dawn (calm/order), OGN-265 / OGN-308 Herald of the Arcane (mind/order), OGN-269 / OGN-310 The Boss (body/order), SFD-197 / SFD-247 Emperor of the Sands (calm/order), SFD-205 / SFD-251 Grand Duelist (body/order), UNL-203 / UNL-237 Keeper of the Hammer (body/order) and VEN-153 / VEN-196 Matriarch of War (body/order).
- Neither card is Signature (checked against data/cards.json), so 103.2.d.2 imposes no legend, and neither is banned or restricted in either format.
- 103.2.b allows three Blades; the Armory is one card and needs no second copy, since its ability is a repeatable exhaust rather than a play trigger.
Prerequisites
- THE FINDING, AND IT REFINES A SAME-DAY LINE. On 2026-09-07 this project established that an ATTACHED Equipment can never pay its own [Equip] again: 818.1.a puts [Equip] in the card's printed Rules Text, 718.2 says 'While in this state, the card's printed Rules Text is Inactive', and 721.2 says 'Inactive Abilities do not trigger, do not apply, and cannot be activated.' All of that is correct. What was missed is the exit. 718.1: 'A card remains in this state until Detached.' The door is one-way OUT OF THE ATTACHMENT, not out of the game - a detached Equipment's printed text is Active again and its [Equip] is payable again.
- AND THE CARRIER DYING IS A DETACH THAT LEAVES THE EQUIPMENT ON THE BOARD. 719.5, cited by no entry before this one: 'When a Top-Most Card changes zones from a board zone to a non-board zone, all Attached cards Detach from it, remaining in their current zones.' The carrier goes to the trash; the Blade does not go with it. It stays where it was, on the board, at that battlefield.
- 457.1 THEN WALKS IT HOME, AND RIOT'S OWN EXAMPLE IS THIS EXACT CASE. 457.1: 'When an un-attached non-Unit Gear is created or played at a battlefield, or is at a battlefield for any other reason, it is Recalled to its controller's base during the next Cleanup.' Its worked example: 'An Equipment is attached to a unit at a battlefield, so the Equipment is present at that battlefield. If the unit dies, the Equipment will be recalled during the next cleanup.' 455 makes that a relocation to the Base without a Move, and 458.1 keeps its statuses, so an Empowered or otherwise modified Equipment comes back the way it left.
- SO THE BLADE IS A RENEWABLE +4, NOT A ONE-SHOT. Losing the carrier costs one Order rune and one Recruit, not the card. That holds for every Equipment in the pool, since 719.5 and 457.1 name none - it is the general answer to the 'single point of failure' every Equipment BURST in this catalogue declares.
- A 1-MIGHT RECRUIT CARRYING THE BLADE IS A [MIGHTY] BODY. 718.4: 'While in this state, the card's Might Bonus modulates the Top-Most Card's Might by the value listed', applied in the Arithmetic layer by 477.3.d - 1 + 4 = 5, and 709 makes that a crossing of the Mighty line, so the Armory's tokens are the cheapest Mighty bodies in Order. 137.3.a is the companion: the Bonus stops 'as soon as the card with the Might Bonus is no longer Attached', so the Recruit is back to 1 the moment the Blade detaches.
- THE COST IS PAYABLE WITH A TOKEN, AND THE ARMORY IS WHY IT IS FREE. 185.2.d: 'Tokens have a type. They follow all rules for their type unless otherwise specified', so a Recruit token IS a friendly unit for 'Kill a friendly unit'; 203.3 (a cost whose action is impossible cannot be paid) therefore never bites while the Armory stands.
- TWO LIMITS, STATED. The Armory's ability is an Activated Ability with no [Action] and no [Reaction], so 381 confines it to your own turn in an Open State - the Recruits cannot be minted in response to the removal that killed your carrier, only on your next turn. And 719.5.a gives the order of the detaches to 'the player that controls the Top-Most Card that changed zones', which matters only where one Equipment's Effect Text watches another leaving.
Steps
- Play SFD-168 Vanguard Armory (7 Energy + 1 Power). It is gear, so 143.4 does not exhaust it and its ability is live the same turn.
- Exhaust the Armory: play three 1 Might Recruit unit tokens, at least two of them to the same location.
- Play SFD-178 Blade of the Ruined King (3 Energy + 1 Power) and pay its [Equip]: one Order rune, and kill one Recruit (185.2.d makes the token a legal friendly unit for the cost). Attach it to a second Recruit, now Might 5 (718.4, 477.3.d) and therefore [Mighty] (709).
- The opponent removes the carrier. It changes zones from the board to the trash, so 719.5 detaches the Blade, which remains in its current zone - still on the board, at that battlefield.
- At the next Cleanup, 457.1 recalls the un-attached Blade to your base; 455 makes that a Recall and 458.1 leaves its statuses untouched.
- The Blade is no longer Attached (718.1), so 718.2 stops suppressing its printed Rules Text and 721.2 no longer applies: its [Equip] is Active again.
- On your turn the Armory readies at Awaken (315.1.b) and mints three fresh Recruits. Pay one Order rune, kill one Recruit, re-attach the Blade to another. Repeat for as long as the Armory stands.
Per iteration
the Blade re-homes for one Order rune and one token per carrier lost, and the Armory replaces the fodder three at a time every turn
How it ends
engine only - nothing here scores. Its ceiling is the Armory's one exhaust a turn (381 confines it to your Main Phase) and 103.2.b's three Blades; the content of the entry is that the Equipment count never goes down.

HAND-WALKED 2026-09-07 (issue #187, uncited-rules-blocks slice: 454/457 Recalls and 716-722 Attachment). 719.5, 719.5.a, 718.1, 718.4, 457.1 and 458.1 are cited by no other entry in the catalogue. Card text verbatim from data/corpus_flat.txt. The removal of prize-of-progress-hexplate-equip-shuttle still stands on its own ground, since that line wanted repeated activations WITHIN a turn on a still-attached card, which 718.2 does forbid. Trap check: the Armory is your-turn-only (381); the token kill is legal only because of 185.2.d; 719.5.a puts the detach order in the controller's hands; no unruled reading.
