Combo · ENGINE
Bone Skewer makes the opponent the attacker on your turn with a body they never chose to commit — and a stunned attacker assigns nothing
Pieces
- Bone Skewer ×1
UNL-139 · engine · chaos
[Hidden] (Hide now for 1 Power of any domain to react with later for 0 Energy.) Choose a battlefield. An opponent reveals their hand. You may choose a unit from it. They play that unit to that battlefield, ignoring any and all costs. If they do, then do this: [Stun] it. (It doesn't deal combat damage this turn.)
- Towering Pairofant ×1
UNL-008 · payoff · fury
[Assault] (+1 Might while I'm an attacker.) If a unit died this turn, I enter ready.
- Against the Odds ×1
SFD-001 · enabler · fury
[Reaction] (Play any time, even before spells and abilities resolve.) Give a friendly unit at a battlefield +2 Might this turn for each enemy unit there.
Payoff
Deck
- Chaos + Fury, so five legend names (103.1.b.2): Loose Cannon (OGN-251), Dark Child - Starter (OGS-017), Glorious Executioner (SFD-185), Bloodharbor Ripper (UNL-185), Master of Shadows (VEN-143).
- A battlefield you control with no facedown card already on it, hidden a turn earlier (811.1.b), and the Pairofant standing there.
Prerequisites
- THE OPPONENT BECOMES THE ATTACKER ON YOUR TURN, AND THE PARAGRAPH IS ABOUT WHOSE UNIT IT IS. 190.3.a.1: 'Units moving to or being played to a battlefield apply Contested status if that battlefield is not already Contested and that Unit's controller does not already control that battlefield.' 464.2.c.1: 'The Attacker is the player whose unit(s) applied the Contested status to the Battlefield.' The card THEY are made to play applies the status, so THEY attack, into your garrison, on your turn, at a battlefield you already control.
- A STUNNED ATTACKER ASSIGNS NOTHING AND STILL COSTS FULL PRICE TO KILL. 423.1.b: 'A Stunned Unit does not contribute its might to damage in the combat damage step', so under 465.2.c ('each player assigns an amount of damage equal to their summed Might among the other's Units') their side assigns ZERO and the Pairofant takes nothing. But 423.1.c: 'A Stunned Unit must still have damage applied to it equal to, or greater than, its full might value to be killed' — the stun is not a discount. Pairofant at Might 6, plus Against the Odds at +2 for the one enemy unit there, assigns 8: this executes anything in their hand up to Might 8, and nothing above it.
- IT IS A DEFENSIVE PAYOFF, NOT A POINT. 466.5 establishes Control only 'for a player if they didn't already control this Battlefield', and 811.1.b hides the card at a battlefield you control — so you are already the Controller and win the combat with no Conquer. What the line buys is their best card out of their hand and off the board for 0 Energy.
- THE HIDDEN ROUTE IS THE CHEAP ONE AND 811.1.d.2 IS WHY IT AIMS ITSELF. Hidden for one rainbow, it is played later for 0 Energy, and 811.1.d.2 confines a hidden spell's targets to that battlefield — so 'Choose a battlefield' can only be the one you control and hid at, which is exactly where you want their body. The hand choice escapes the same clause under its own tail ('unless the ability explicitly restricts targeting in a way that makes this impossible'; the rules' worked example is Tideturner), since no card in a hand is at any battlefield. Played from hand instead, for 2 Energy + 1 Chaos Power, the battlefield is unrestricted.
- THE RISK IS THEIR PLAY TRIGGER, AND IT IS REAL. 191.1 / 191.2 make them the player who plays it, so every 'When you play me' on the card you pull fires for THEM. Choose a big vanilla body over a small one with text. 'Ignoring any and all costs' is wider than 811.1.b's 'ignoring its base cost' and wider than 356.1.b.3's carve-out for optional additional costs, so no rider of theirs gets paid either.
- THEY CANNOT REINFORCE. It is your turn: 144.1.b bars the Standard Move in a Closed State and 381 confines Activated Abilities to the controlling player's turn, so the pulled unit fights alone unless they hold a [Reaction] body. Against the Odds is itself [Reaction] (813.1.c.1), so you commit the +2 after seeing what landed.
- 055 IS THE FLOOR: 'When executing card text, do as much as you can, ignoring impossible instructions.' An empty hand, or a hand of no units, makes the Skewer a reveal and nothing else — it is never a blank, but it is never guaranteed either.
Steps
- Play Towering Pairofant (6 Energy) and walk him to a battlefield you control.
- Hide Bone Skewer face down at that battlefield for one rainbow Power (811.1.b). It gains [Reaction] from the following turn.
- On a later turn of yours, play it face up for 0 Energy. Choose that battlefield (811.1.d.2 allows no other). Your opponent reveals their hand.
- Choose the biggest unit in it. They play it to your battlefield, ignoring any and all costs, and it is [Stun]ned.
- 190.3.a.1 applies Contested through THEIR unit, so 464.2.c.1 makes them the Attacker. The next Cleanup stages the Combat (323.9) and opens it.
- Inside the combat, play Against the Odds (2 Energy, [Reaction]) on the Pairofant: +2 Might for the one enemy unit there, taking him to 8.
- 465.2.c: they assign 0 (423.1.b); you assign 8 and 465.2.c.3 forces it in full onto the stunned body, which 423.1.c prices at its full printed Might. It dies; nothing of yours is scratched.
Per iteration
their best unit up to Might 8, removed from hand and killed, for 0 Energy on the turn (one rainbow paid a turn earlier) plus 2 Energy for Against the Odds
How it ends
engine — one card of your choosing out of the opponent's hand and into the trash per Bone Skewer, three a game (103.2.b), with no damage taken and no point scored on either side

UNL-139 Bone Skewer, UNL-008 Towering Pairofant and SFD-001 Against the Odds were ALL in ZERO entries. Legend line built from cards.json. No unruled reading: every step is a printed permission or a quoted paragraph. The reusable half is the first two notables — 190.3.a.1's 'or being played to' is what makes an opponent the attacker on your turn, and a stun mutes a body without making it cheaper to kill.
