Bottled Constellation on a token faucet — a point a turn with no battlefield at all
Pieces
- Bottled Constellation ×1
VEN-067 · payoff · mind
At the start of your Main Phase, you may kill 3 other friendly units and/or gear to score 1 point.
Payoff
Deck
- Bottled Constellation is mono-Mind, so the identity is whatever the token faucet brings plus Mind. rumble-scrapper-sentinel-mechs is itself mono-Mind and makes exactly three bodies a Hold, which is exactly one firing.
Prerequisites
- THIS IS THE ONLY POINT SOURCE IN THE CATALOGUE THAT NEEDS NO BATTLEFIELD. R2 = A makes card-text 'score 1 point' a Gain by ability under 194.1.c rather than a 469 Score, so 470's 'once per Battlefield per turn' has nothing to attach to and 471.2 never comes up: the point arrives at your own Main Phase with no Hold, no Conquer, no garrison and no Contested status. Every other repeatable point engine in the catalogue is anchored to a battlefield somebody can take from you.
- The three kills are the trigger's BASE COST, not its effect. 383.3.b: a cost 'immediately following the "you may"' is treated as the base cost of the Triggered Ability, and 383.3.b.1 says it 'must be paid in order to finalize the Triggered Ability to the Chain'. So the three bodies must be on the board at the instant the trigger goes up, and 203.3 (if the action a cost asks for is impossible, the cost cannot be paid) simply declines it otherwise. There is no partial firing.
- TOKENS ARE LEGAL FODDER, and this is the half that has to be checked every time. 185 bars them from being RECYCLED because 416.1 is defined over cards — but killing is 428.1, 'the action of a Permanent going to the trash from the board', and 428.1.a.1 admits it 'as a cost for a card or ability'; 185.2.d says outright that 'a token unit is a unit' and follows all rules for its type. 186.1 (a token ceases to exist on entering a Non-Board Zone) is harmless here, because nothing in this line ever wants it in the trash.
- The timing is exact and it is free of 167. 316.2 lists the Main Phase tasks in order: 316.3 empties every Rune Pool, THEN 316.4 is where 'at the start of Main Phase game effects take place'. The Constellation is one of those, so it fires with an empty pool and needs none — its cost is bodies, not mana.
- One point per Constellation per turn. 103.2.b allows three, which is 3 points a turn for nine fodder permanents and 30 Energy + 6 Power of gear; the entry declares one, because the honest unit is one Constellation matched to one faucet. 'other friendly' excludes the Constellation itself but not another Constellation, and gear counts as fodder too — a spent Gold token is not eligible, because killing it is how you spend it.
- The faucet has to produce THREE bodies a turn or it stalls, and it must not mark them [Temporary]: 816.1.b kills those at the start of the Beginning Phase, a whole phase before 316.4, so a Sprite made this turn is gone before the Constellation ever sees it. That is the same trap grand-plaza-loop-time-warp and ready-recruits-grand-plaza record, on a different clock.
- Ten Energy and 2 Mind Power is the most expensive single card in this walk, and it does nothing on the turn it lands.
- 204.3.a IS THE FIRST AND CLEANER SOURCE FOR THIS, AND IT CARRIES THE WORKED EXAMPLE: "When Costs within Instructions appear as the first part of the effect in triggered abilities, the cost is taken to be the base cost of the triggered ability. It must be paid to finalize the triggered ability", with Riot's example being Overzealous Fan - "When I defend, you may kill me to move an attacking unit to its base" - and the note that "in order to finalize the ability to the chain, its controller must kill Overzealous Fan". 383.3.b says the same thing later in the book. The companion is 204.3.b: a cost appearing in a SPELL, in an ACTIVATED ability, or in a LATER part of a trigger's effect is paid on resolution instead, which is the 205 "pay X. If you do, Y" family and the reason the two look alike on the card and behave differently on the chain.
Steps
- Have a token faucet on the board that makes three or more non-[Temporary] bodies a turn, and play Bottled Constellation (10 Energy + 2 Mind Power).
- Start of your Main Phase (316.4, after 316.3 has emptied the Rune Pool): the Constellation's ability triggers.
- Pay its base cost by killing three other friendly units and/or gear — token units qualify under 185.2.d and 428.1 / 428.1.a.1 — to finalize it (383.3.b.1).
- It resolves: you gain 1 point (194.1.c, R2 = A), with no battlefield involved and no Score performed.
- Repeat every turn the faucet has refilled three bodies.
Per iteration

AUTHORED 2026-09-06 from issue #160. VEN-067 appears in the catalogue only inside bottled-constellation-time-warp, which needs infinite-energy AND infinite-power; the plain token-fed version had never been written, and #63's audit had already recorded that token-body-engine has many producers and almost no consumers. Written generically on purpose — the faucet is named by feature, not by card — following the shape of ready-recruits-grand-plaza. Card text verbatim from data/corpus_flat.txt; 185, 185.2.d, 186.1, 194.1.c, 203.3, 316.2, 316.3, 316.4, 383.3.b, 383.3.b.1, 416.1, 428.1, 428.1.a.1, 470, 471.2 and 816.1.b opened in the Core Rules file. Stands on R2 = A (ruled 2026-09-03); no new reading. Trap check: no attack; nothing recycled; no [Repeat]; no recall; the [Temporary] exclusion is stated because it is the one faucet family that silently fails here; 167 is answered by the 316.3/316.4 ordering.
