Combo · ENGINE
355.10.e is why a symmetric offer costs the opponent nothing to refuse - and taking it is what pays you
Pieces
- Card Sharp ×3
SFD-081 · engine · mind
When you play me, you and each opponent may play a Gold gear token exhausted. For each opponent who did, you play a Gold gear token exhausted.
- Dropboarder ×3
SFD-072 · payoff · mind
When you play me, if you control two or more gear, ready me.
Payoff
Deck
- Both cards are mono-Mind, so 103.1.b.3 admits any legend with Mind in its pair.
- Neither card is banned or restricted in either format, and neither is a Signature card.
- Two gear on the board when the Dropboarder's trigger executes - 359.3.f.2 reads it on execution, so Golds minted earlier the same turn count.
Prerequisites
- THE OFFER IS NOT A TARGET, AND THAT IS WHY IT IS SAFE TO MAKE. 355.10.e: an object 'chosen in whole or in part by other players' is not a target - Riot's printed example is a spell reading 'Each player kills a unit they control', and it spells out that such an effect does not target. So Card Sharp charges no [Deflect] tax (809.1.c and 809.1.d only bite on choosing) and cannot be answered as a targeted effect. It also means the DECISION is theirs, which is the honest cost of the card.
- AND THE DECISION IS NOT OBVIOUS FOR THEM, WHICH IS THE POINT. Their Gold is real mana - 187.5 gives it '[Reaction][>] Kill this, [E]: [Add] [A]' - but it arrives EXHAUSTED and 415.3.a readies it only in their own Awakening, so it is a Power on a later turn rather than now. Refusing keeps you to one Gold; accepting gives you two. In a Duel (485.1's two players) the range is exactly one or two Golds for 3 Energy and a 3 Might body.
- TWO GOLDS IS EXACTLY THE DROPBOARDER'S THRESHOLD, AND 187.5 IS WHY THEY COUNT. 'A Gold gear token is a domainless gear token', and 185.2.d puts a token inside the rules for its type - so two Golds satisfy 'if you control two or more gear' with no real gear in the deck at all. 359.3.f.2 checks that on execution of the trigger, so the Card Sharp played earlier in the same turn already counts.
- AND THE READY IS A REAL READY, NOT AN 'ENTERS READY'. 415.1 defines Readying as marking a non-spell Game Object ALREADY on the board, and 143.4 had just entered the Dropboarder exhausted - so the trigger undoes that and 144.2's Standard Move cost is available on the turn it lands. 415.1.c is the failure case: 'If a Unit is instructed to be Readied while it is already Ready, nothing additional happens', which is why this is worth nothing on a body that was already ready.
- THE OTHER THREE GEAR-COUNT CARDS, NAMED. VEN-058 Patched Porobot (3 or more OTHER gear, draw 1), VEN-064 Plaza Guardian (1 Energy less per gear) and VEN-076 Repair Specialist ([Assault] equal to the number of gear) read the same board. SFD-076 Production Surge does NOT - its discount reads a MECH, which 187.4 supplies as a UNIT token. A Gold engine turns on three of the four.
- WHAT IT IS NOT. Nothing here scores; 469 defines Scoring as Conquer or Hold. And a Gold is never mana on the turn it appears unless SFD-171 Renata Glasc, Industrialist is out (R25 = A), which is mono-Order and needs a Mind/Order legend.
Steps
- Play Card Sharp (3 Energy). You play a Gold gear token exhausted; each opponent may do the same, and for each who does you play another.
- 355.10.e makes their decision a choice by another player rather than a target, so nothing about it can be taxed or answered.
- You now control one or two gear - 187.5 makes each Gold a gear and 185.2.d puts it inside the rules for its type.
- Play Dropboarder (4 Energy). If two or more gear are out, its trigger readies it (415.1) and it can move the turn it lands.
- Each Gold becomes 1 Power of any domain from your next Awakening (415.3.a).
- The same two gear also feed VEN-058 Patched Porobot's draw at three, if the deck runs it.
Per iteration
one or two Gold gear tokens and a 3 Might body per Card Sharp, and a 4 Might body that moves on arrival per Dropboarder
How it ends
engine only - three of each card by 103.2.b, one or two Golds each depending on a decision that is not yours; nothing here scores

HAND-WALKED 2026-09-07 (issue #188). The first entry to use SFD-081 Card Sharp or SFD-072 Dropboarder. Card text verbatim from data/corpus_flat.txt. Citations opened and quoted: 103.1.b.3, 103.2.b, 143.4, 144.2, 185.2.d, 187.4, 187.5, 355.10.e, 359.3.f.2, 415.1, 415.1.c, 415.3.a, 469, 485.1, 809.1.c, 809.1.d. Continues the Gold-is-a-gear lens enumerated in section 24, and repeats the SFD-076 exclusion because a reader counting 'gear-count cards' will otherwise include it. Ban check: neither card is banned or restricted; neither is a Signature card. No unruled reading.
