Combo · ENGINE
182 lets an effect name a DIFFERENT player as a token's controller - Card Sharp is symmetric on paper, and Renata's "Your tokens" is what breaks the symmetry

Deck
- Card Sharp is mono-Mind and Renata Glasc, Industrialist is mono-Order, so the identity is Mind/Order and 103.1.b.2 needs a legend covering both. SFD-201 Chem-Baroness is named in uses[] and is Mind/Order; her alt printing is SFD-249. The other Mind/Order legends measured over data/cards.json are OGN-265 / OGN-308 Herald of the Arcane, OGS-021 Lady of Luminosity - Starter and UNL-199 / UNL-235 Deceiver, but only the Chem-Baroness pays the Gold a second time.
- None of the three is a Signature card (checked against data/cards.json), so 103.2.d.2 imposes nothing beyond the legend already being named, and none is banned or restricted in either format.
- Renata Glasc, Industrialist has to be on the board when Card Sharp resolves; 143.4 has her enter exhausted, so she is played a turn earlier.
Prerequisites
- 182 IS THE PARAGRAPH AND IT IS CITED BY NOTHING: 'A token's controller is the controller of the spell or ability that created it, unless the token's type innately determines control or that spell or ability specifies that a different player is the token's controller.' Card Sharp specifies exactly that - the opponent plays a Gold they control. Measured over the corpus, only TWO cards in the pool use that exception: SFD-081 Card Sharp and UNL-130 Walking Roost (whose Bird is a pure drawback).
- THE CARD IS SYMMETRIC ON PAPER AND THE ASYMMETRY IS BOUGHT ELSEWHERE. In a Duel the opponent will take the free Gold, which is what turns your one Gold into two - 'For each opponent who did, you play a Gold gear token exhausted.' So the honest baseline is 2 Gold for you against 1 for them, a net +1, for a 3-Energy 3-Might body. Everything above that comes from the two cards that say YOUR.
- 187.5 IS WHY 'ENTERS EXHAUSTED' IS NOT A COSMETIC. The Gold token prints '[Reaction][>] Kill this, :rb_exhaust:: [Add] :rb_rune_rainbow:' - its own cost includes an exhaust, so an EXHAUSTED Gold cannot pay it and is dead until its controller's next Awakening (315.1.b, 415.3.a). 184.1 is the rule that lets an effect override the default: 'The effect may state that the token enters ready or exhausted, if that state is contrary to the default for the token's type.' Card Sharp says exhausted; Renata's static says your tokens enter ready, and R25 = A settles that the static wins.
- SO RENATA CONVERTS YOUR TWO GOLD INTO LIVE POWER AND LEAVES THEIRS DEAD FOR A TURN. Your two enter ready and can be killed for 2 rainbow Power in the window they were created - which is the whole tempo of the card. Theirs entered exhausted and stays that way until their Awaken, so it never answers anything you do this turn. 182 is the reason Renata cannot help them: she says 'Your tokens', and the Gold they took is theirs.
- AND THE CHEM-BARONESS TAXES THE SAME WORD AGAIN. 'While your score is within 3 points of the Victory Score, your Gold [Add] an additional :rb_energy_1:' - so late in the game each of your two Gold is 1 Power AND 1 Energy while theirs is still 1 Power. The threshold is format-sensitive: 5 of 8 under 194.3, 8 of 11 under 489.3.
- THE GOLD IS GEAR, NOT A UNIT, AND THAT MATTERS TWICE. 143.4 exhausts only units, so the 'exhausted' on a Gold is entirely the creating effect's doing (184.1) rather than the default; and 457.1 recalls an un-attached non-Unit Gear at a battlefield to its controller's base at the next Cleanup, so a Gold made at a battlefield does not stay there. Neither changes the arithmetic, but both are why the token behaves unlike the Recruit tokens Renata is usually paired with.
- IT IS ALSO A BODY. Card Sharp is a Might 3 unit, so the 3 Energy is not paid purely for the ramp - which is the difference between this and every Gold-producing gear in the pool.
Steps
- Run SFD-201 (or SFD-249) Chem-Baroness as your legend and play SFD-171 Renata Glasc, Industrialist (4 Energy + 1 Power). 143.4 has her enter exhausted; her static does not care.
- On a later turn play SFD-081 Card Sharp (3 Energy). Its play trigger offers each player a Gold gear token, entering exhausted (184.1).
- The opponent takes theirs - it is free mana and they control it under 182. That satisfies 'For each opponent who did', so you play a SECOND Gold.
- Renata's static applies to your two Gold and not to theirs: yours enter ready (R25 = A), theirs entered exhausted and 415.3.a will not ready it until their own Awakening.
- Kill your two Gold for 2 rainbow Power at [Reaction] speed the same turn (187.5). Late in the game the Chem-Baroness adds 1 Energy to each.
- Three copies of Card Sharp (103.2.b) are three such turns; the Chem-Baroness's own Hold trigger adds one more Gold a turn on top.
Per iteration
two ready Gold for you and one exhausted Gold for the opponent, off a 3-Energy Might 3 body
How it ends
engine only - nothing here scores. Three Card Sharp (103.2.b), one Gold a turn from the legend's own exhaust, and every Gold is a one-shot because 187.5's cost kills it

HAND-WALKED 2026-09-07 (issue #187, uncited-rules-blocks slice: 179-184 Tokens). 180, 181, 182 and 183 are cited by no entry and no synergy rule in this project, and SFD-081 Card Sharp was in ZERO entries. Card text verbatim from data/corpus_flat.txt. Citations opened: 103.1.b.2, 103.2.b, 103.2.d.2, 143.4, 182, 184.1, 187.5, 194.3, 315.1.b, 415.3.a, 457.1, 489.3. MEMBERS NAMED: exactly TWO cards in the pool use 182's trailing exception to give an opponent a token, swept on the corpus - SFD-081 Card Sharp (a Gold, which is the point) and UNL-130 Walking Roost (a 1-Might Bird, a pure drawback). R25 = A is the ruling that Renata's static beats the creating effect's 'exhausted'. Distinct from chem-baroness-gold-banked-across-the-threshold (the legend's own Hold Gold, no Card Sharp and no Renata) and from every Renata Industrialist entry, all of which pair her with unit tokens rather than a gear token whose own cost is an exhaust. Trap check: the card is symmetric and the entry prices the opponent's Gold rather than hiding it; 182 is why Renata cannot ready theirs; the Chem-Baroness threshold is format-sensitive and stated for both; no unruled reading.
