Payoff
Deck
- The legend is Swift Scout (OGN-263), Mind/Chaos — 'You may pay 1 Energy to hide a card with [Hidden] instead of 1 rainbow Power.' Three other Mind/Chaos legends exist (SFD-199, UNL-197, VEN-151) and the line runs under them too, but without the Energy-for-Power swap it only breaks even.
Prerequisites
- IT CANNOT BE FOLDED INTO black-market-broker-bandle-tree-gold, and issue #48 suggested exactly that. Chemtech Cask is MIND; that entry's identity is Order/Chaos, forced by its Order payload SFD-154 Guards! and its legend VEN-155 Heart of the Tempest, the only Order/Chaos legend. 103.1.b.1: 'Cards included in your deck must abide by your Domain Identity.' The Cask is illegal in that deck, so this is its own line on its own identity.
- SWIFT SCOUT IS WHAT MAKES THE CASK PROFITABLE INSTEAD OF NEUTRAL. Issue #48 refuted the Cask on the grounds that hiding costs 1 rainbow Power (811.1.b) and the Cask hands back exactly 1 Gold. Under Swift Scout the hide is paid in ENERGY and the Cask still pays in POWER, so the cycle converts rather than breaking even.
- THE CYCLE, WITH THE QUANTITIES DECLARED. Your turn: hide Sprite Call for 1 Energy. The opponent's turn: play it from facedown for 0 (811.1.b, and 811.6 gives it [Reaction] so the window exists). That one flip is 'a card played from face down' for the Broker (1 Gold) and 'a spell played on an opponent's turn' for the Cask (1 Gold), and Sprite Call itself leaves a ready 3 Might Sprite at that battlefield. Your Awaken (315.1.b) readies both Gold: +2 rainbow Power for 1 Energy and one card.
- THE GOLD IS NEXT-TURN POWER HERE, and the entry does not pretend otherwise. Renata Glasc, Industrialist would make it immediate under R25 = A, but she is Order and cannot be in a Mind/Chaos deck. 187.5 makes the Gold's ability cost an exhaust, and an exhausted gear cannot pay it.
- THE CASK IS ONCE PER TURN CYCLE. 'You may exhaust me' is the cost, and it readies in your Awaken (315.1.b), so a second flip in the same cycle collects only the Broker's Gold.
- THE CEILING IS THE [Hidden] CARD, NOT THE SLOT — the same bound black-market-broker-bandle-tree-gold records. Each cycle burns one. OGN-264 Guerilla Warfare (Mind/Chaos, E2 P1, 'Return up to two cards with [Hidden] from your trash to your hand. You can hide cards ignoring costs this turn.') is the only recursion in the identity and buys two more cycles per cast; it is why this is an ENGINE and not a one-shot.
- 323.7 IS THE REAL PRICE OF HIDING: a Cleanup 'Remove[s] all Hidden cards from all Battlefields that are not controlled by the same player and place[s] them in their owner's Trash', and 466.5.c repeats it the instant somebody establishes Control. Losing the battlefield does not stall the engine — it eats the card. 811.1.b also only lets you hide at a battlefield you control at all, and 419.4.a.1 pays nothing for a countered flip.
- THE CASK ALSO WORKS WITHOUT [Hidden]: any spell you play on the opponent's turn triggers it. Ten 1-Energy [Reaction] spells in the pool carry no Power in their cost, but only FOUR are legal beside the Cask under Mind/Chaos — OGN-095 Stupefy, OGN-104 Retreat, VEN-061 Decree of Insight (Mind) and OGN-169 Gust (Chaos). The other six are Calm, Body or Order.
Steps
- Establish Control of a battlefield; 811.1.b only lets you hide at one you control.
- Play Chemtech Cask (1 Energy, gear, enters ready under 143.4) and Black Market Broker (3 Energy).
- On your turn, hide Sprite Call there: 1 Energy under Swift Scout instead of 1 rainbow Power.
- On the opponent's turn, the moment a chain exists, play it from facedown for 0 (811.1.b, 811.6).
- Collect: Broker 1 Gold, Cask 1 Gold (exhausting the Cask), plus a ready 3 Might Sprite at that battlefield.
- At your Awaken (315.1.b) both Gold and the Cask ready. Kill and exhaust each Gold for 1 rainbow Power each (187.5).
Per iteration
+2 rainbow Power and a 3 Might ready body per turn cycle, for 1 Energy and one card with [Hidden]
How it ends
engine only — one flip per slot per turn (811.1.b) and one card with [Hidden] burned per cycle; Guerilla Warfare returns two per cast, so it runs for a stack of turns and then stops

HAND-WALKED 2026-09-06 (docs/phase0/walks/2026-09-06-token-lens-candidates.md), issue #48 candidate 4, REWRITTEN twice over. (1) The candidate's headline proposal — fold the Cask into black-market-broker-bandle-tree-gold as a correction — is illegal under 103.1.b.1, because the Cask is Mind and that deck is Order/Chaos; the walk killed it rather than shipping it. (2) The candidate then refuted the Cask as neutral, because hiding costs 1 Power and the Cask returns 1 Gold; OGN-263 Swift Scout, a legend of the very identity the Cask forces, pays the hide in Energy instead, which the candidate never priced. Depends on no unruled reading. Card text verbatim from data/corpus_flat.txt.
