Consuming Curse counts cards in a zone, not a history — the un-controversial cousin of R15, and 714 sums it with Annie
Pieces
- Consuming Curse ×3
VEN-010 · payoff · fury
[Action] (Play on your turn or in showdowns.) Deal 2 to a unit at a battlefield. This deals 1 Bonus Damage for each card with this name in your trash.
- Annie, Fiery ×1
OGS-001 · engine · fury
Your spells and abilities deal 1 Bonus Damage. (Each instance of damage the spell deals is increased by 1.)

Deck
- Mono-Fury, so any of the sixteen legend names carrying Fury holds it (103.1.b.1): Daughter of the Void (OGN-247), Relentless Storm (OGN-249), Loose Cannon (OGN-251), Hand of Noxus (OGN-253), Dark Child - Starter (OGS-017), Mechanized Menace (SFD-181), Purifier (SFD-183), Glorious Executioner (SFD-185), Void Burrower (SFD-187), Virtuoso (UNL-181), Pridestalker (UNL-183), Bloodharbor Ripper (UNL-185), Piltover Enforcer (UNL-187), Rogue Assassin (VEN-139), Butcher of the Sands (VEN-141), Master of Shadows (VEN-143).
- All three copies of the Curse, since the card's own scaling is denominated in them.
Run play
Prerequisites
- IT NEEDS NO RULES READING, AND THAT IS THE POINT OF COMPARING IT TO R15. `UNL-020 Dancing Grenade` counts 'each time this spell has dealt damage this turn' — a history that survives the trash between replays, which had to be ruled (R15 = A, issue #11). Consuming Curse counts 'each card with this name in your trash': a zone, read on resolution, with nothing to track. It is the same escalating-burn design with the ambiguity removed, and it belongs in the catalogue as the clean member of that family. ADDED 2026-10-18 (#410, from the run play docs/plays/2026-10-18-three-incinerates-kill-lux-and-one-guard-the-curses-kill-lux-and-two-and-the-third-kill-is-the-battlefield.md): true, and two paragraphs settle edge cases it does not mention. A copy whose target was saved still resolves, 359.3.e.1: "The spell resolves even if some or all of its targets are illegal." It then goes to the trash, 157: "A spell creates a game effect according to its instructions and is then placed in the Trash of the player who owns it." A countered copy goes there too, 425.1.a.1: "Cards that are cleared from the chain in this way are placed in the trash." So answering one copy does not stop the next one growing.
- 714 SUMS THE CARD'S OWN SCALING WITH ANNIE'S STATIC: 'If more than one instance of Bonus Damage is applied or granted to a Deal action, all instances are summed and applied once.' The Curse's clause is one instance and Annie's is another; there is no interaction beyond addition.
- THE ARITHMETIC OVER A GAME, WITH THE ENTRY'S OWN QUANTITIES. 103.2.b caps the deck at three by NAME, which is the same quantity the card reads, so the trash can hold at most two when the third is cast. Casting all three in order: 2, then 3, then 4 — NINE damage for 6 Energy. Under Annie: 3, 4, 5 — TWELVE. CORRECTED 2026-10-18 (#410, from the run play docs/plays/2026-10-18-three-incinerates-kill-lux-and-one-guard-the-curses-kill-lux-and-two-and-the-third-kill-is-the-battlefield.md): the sums are right, but they are three Deal actions, each with one target, 715.1: "If the Deal action has a single target, the amount of Damage to that target will be increased by the Bonus Damage granted to it." Damage heals at the end of the turn (317.2.b inserts "3c. Heal all Units." into the Ending Special Cleanup), so the 9 (12) is never one hit: the biggest copy is a 4 (5 under Annie). All three copies in hand by T4 going first (8 cards seen of a 39-card draw pile) is 0.61%; exactly two, 9.50%; at least two, 10.11%. In the play's walk against a Mind/Order deck with OGS-006 Lux, Illuminated (M5) among 3-Might guards, three OGS-003 Incinerate (Fury, E2: "Deal 2 to a unit at a battlefield.") under Annie are three 3s. They kill Lux with two Deals and one guard with the third, or three guards, and neither leaves the battlefield to Annie. The Curses' 3, 4 and 5 kill Lux with one Deal and two guards with the others, and that third kill is what the scaling buys. For comparison, three OGN-009 Hextech Ray (Fury, E1 + 1 Power: "Deal 3 to a unit at a battlefield.") are also 9 (12 under Annie), for 3 Energy and 3 Power, and one OGN-024 Void Seeker (Fury, E3 + 1 Power: "Deal 4 to a unit at a battlefield. Draw 1.") is the third copy's 5 under Annie on its own, and draws.
- AND THE TRAP IS THAT MILLING THE COPIES LOSES YOU DAMAGE. Putting two Curses in the trash without casting them makes the survivor a 4 (5 under Annie) — better per CARD, and worse in TOTAL than the 9 (12) that casting all three gives. A self-mill is a tempo choice here, never a damage increase; the instinct to 'load the trash first' is wrong on this card. CONFIRMED 2026-10-18 (#410, walked in the run play docs/plays/2026-10-18-three-incinerates-kill-lux-and-one-guard-the-curses-kill-lux-and-two-and-the-third-kill-is-the-battlefield.md): a copy cast at a 3 it cannot kill, to load the trash, left two copies for T4, and the battlefield stayed theirs: 3 to 3 after their T4, against 4 to 2 for the line that cast all three on T4.
- IT IS BATTLEFIELD-SCOPED, unlike the six no-location damage cards (`OGN-029 Falling Star`, `OGN-248 Icathian Rain`, `OGN-252 Super Mega Death Rocket!`, `OGS-022 Final Spark`, `UNL-020 Dancing Grenade`, `UNL-026 Xerath, Freed`): the Curse says 'at a battlefield', so it cannot reach a unit sitting in a base. CORRECTED 2026-10-18 (#410, from the run play docs/plays/2026-10-18-three-incinerates-kill-lux-and-one-guard-the-curses-kill-lux-and-two-and-the-third-kill-is-the-battlefield.md): the six are examples, not the whole set. OGN-033 Shakedown ("Choose an enemy unit. Deal 6 to it unless its controller has you draw 2."), UNL-023 Katarina, Reckless ("deal 2 to an enemy unit"), OGN-105 Singularity ("Deal 6 to each of up to two units."), UNL-073 Deadly Flourish ("Deal 3 to an enemy unit.") and UNL-067 Ruined Rex ("Deal 4 to an enemy unit.") name no location either, and UNL-182 Curtain Call ("Deal 3 to a unit at a base.") and SFD-077 Rocket Barrage ("Deal 4 to a unit in a base.") reach a unit in a base.
- 056 IS WHY THE COUNT IS ALWAYS YOURS. A card goes to its OWNER's zones, so an opponent's Consuming Curse never sits in your trash and the number can only be 0, 1 or 2.
- NO ANSWER WAS NAMED - ADDED 2026-10-18 (#410, from the run play docs/plays/2026-10-18-three-incinerates-kill-lux-and-one-guard-the-curses-kill-lux-and-two-and-the-third-kill-is-the-battlefield.md). These are examples, not a census. VEN-132 Fallen Feline (Order, E2 + 1 Power, M3: "When you play me, name a spell. While I'm at a battlefield, opponents can't play spells with that name.") names the Curse and stops all three copies while it is at a battlefield. SFD-064 Cloth Armor (Mind, E1, [Quick-Draw], "[Effect] [Shield 2] (+2 :rb_might: while I'm a defender.)") stops the Conquer that follows a copy on the walked board: on their last defender in Annie's combat it makes a 4, and the battlefield ends nobody's. VEN-052 Mesmerize (Mind, E1 + 1 Mind Power, [Reaction], choose one: "Return a friendly unit to its owner's hand." or "Give an enemy unit -2 :rb_might: this turn.") saves the target with its first mode, and stops the same Conquer with its second, since Annie as a 2 and their 2 both die. OGN-104 Retreat (Mind, E1: "Return a friendly unit to its owner's hand. Its owner channels 1 rune exhausted.") and a hidden VEN-066 Temporal Breach ("Banish a unit, then its owner plays it to the same location, ignoring its cost.") save the target, and by the first notable the copy still goes to the trash. The play also names SFD-151 Bonds of Strength and UNL-071 Chakram Dancer for the windows on their turn.
Steps
- Play Annie, Fiery (5 Energy + 1 Fury Power) and keep her alive: her static is what raises every number below by 1. CONFIRMED 2026-10-18 (#410, walked in the run play docs/plays/2026-10-18-three-incinerates-kill-lux-and-one-guard-the-curses-kill-lux-and-two-and-the-third-kill-is-the-battlefield.md): Annie first. On the walked board, two copies on T3 before Annie, then Annie and the third copy on T4, ends 3 to 2, a point short, because Annie enters exhausted (143.4: "Units enter the Board exhausted.") and cannot take the battlefield the copies cleared.
- Cast the first Consuming Curse (2 Energy): 2 damage, +1 from Annie = 3. It goes to your trash.
- Cast the second: 2, +1 for the copy in the trash, +1 from Annie = 4. 714 sums the two Bonus Damage instances and applies them once.
- Cast the third: 2, +2 for the two copies, +1 from Annie = 5.
- Twelve damage across three [Action]-speed spells for 6 Energy, each of which can be held for a Showdown. CORRECTED 2026-10-18 (#410, from the run play docs/plays/2026-10-18-three-incinerates-kill-lux-and-one-guard-the-curses-kill-lux-and-two-and-the-third-kill-is-the-battlefield.md): the twelve is three Deals to three targets (the arithmetic notable). And holding a copy for a showdown on their turn works under OGS-017 Dark Child - Starter ("At the end of your turn, ready up to 2 runes."): its two readied runes pay one copy, which is two runes and needs no Power, while an OGN-024 Void Seeker needs three, one of them recycled for Fury. But a showdown on their turn needs them to move into a battlefield they do not control, and they move with their runes open. In the play's walk their best T1, a 3-drop first, left that window with no target; the line where they walked a 2 into it ended 4 to 1 instead of 4 to 2.
Per iteration
+1 damage on each successive copy, plus +1 flat from Annie on all three
How it ends
engine — 9 damage across the three copies alone, 12 with Annie standing, and no fourth copy exists (103.2.b); nothing here scores CORRECTED 2026-10-18 (#410, from the run play docs/plays/2026-10-18-three-incinerates-kill-lux-and-one-guard-the-curses-kill-lux-and-two-and-the-third-kill-is-the-battlefield.md): three Deal actions to three targets, never one 9 (715.1, 317.2.b), and all three copies in hand by T4 going first is 0.61%.

VEN-010 Consuming Curse was in ZERO entries; OGS-001 Annie, Fiery appears in three others and this is a different number and a different trap (a card's OWN self-scaling Bonus Damage summed with hers under 714, and a self-mill that lowers the total). Card text verbatim from data/corpus_flat.txt; 056, 103.1.b.1, 103.2.b, 143.2.a, 713, 714, 715, 715.1 opened in the Core Rules file. R15 is cited as a CONTRAST, not as a dependency: this card needs no reading at all. REVISED 2026-10-18 (#410, from the run play docs/plays/2026-10-18-three-incinerates-kill-lux-and-one-guard-the-curses-kill-lux-and-two-and-the-third-kill-is-the-battlefield.md): the play's leads are applied as dated notes. The entry stays verified: the play found it right about the rules, and the corrections are to what the arithmetic means (three Deals, 0.61% for all three copies by T4) and to an incomplete list of no-location damage cards. The #410 notes paste 143.4, 157, 317.2.b, 359.3.e.1, 425.1.a.1 and 715.1 inline where they use them.
