764-766 is the paragraph behind every "you ignore X" card, and its own worked example is this sentence with Backline in it
Pieces
- Dune Surfer ×1
VEN-004 · enabler · fury
You ignore [Tank] while assigning combat damage here.
- Armed Assailant ×1
SFD-002 · payoff · fury
[Accelerate] (You may pay 1 Energy + 1 Fury Power as an additional cost to have me enter ready.) [Weaponmaster] (When you play me, you may [Equip] one of your Equipment to me for 1 Power of any domain less, even if it's already attached.)
Payoff
Deck
- Mono-Fury, so any of the sixteen legend names carrying Fury holds it (103.1.b.1): Daughter of the Void (OGN-247), Relentless Storm (OGN-249), Loose Cannon (OGN-251), Hand of Noxus (OGN-253), Dark Child - Starter (OGS-017), Mechanized Menace (SFD-181), Purifier (SFD-183), Glorious Executioner (SFD-185), Void Burrower (SFD-187), Virtuoso (UNL-181), Pridestalker (UNL-183), Bloodharbor Ripper (UNL-185), Piltover Enforcer (UNL-187), Rogue Assassin (VEN-139), Butcher of the Sands (VEN-141), Master of Shadows (VEN-143).
- Both bodies at the SAME battlefield: Dune Surfer's clause is scoped to 'here', so he attacks alongside. 144.3 moves them as one game action.
Prerequisites
- 764 THROUGH 766 IS THE GENERAL PARAGRAPH FOR EVERY 'YOU IGNORE X' CARD, AND ITS SECOND WORKED EXAMPLE IS THIS SENTENCE. 765: 'Some Game Effects may instruct players to ignore abilities while performing a game action or procedure.' 766: 'Any abilities ignored in this way are treated as inactive for the purposes of the game action or procedure', with the example 'A unit reads "You ignore Backline while assigning combat damage here." … any instances of Backline on enemy units is treated as inactive.' Dune Surfer is the Tank-facing member of exactly that family, and 'inactive' is stronger than a bypass: 465.2.c.6's requirement ('A player must obey all requirements and restrictions on damage assignment if able') simply has nothing left to obey.
- WHAT A TANK ACTUALLY COSTS YOU IS ORDER, NOT DAMAGE, AND THE ENTRY SAYS SO. 465.2.c.4 caps assignment at minimum lethal per body either way, so a wall does NOT make you overkill; 815.1.c.2 makes every non-Tank body an invalid assignment until the Tank has lethal, which forces you to spend your Might on the wall FIRST and leaves the real threats alive with whatever is left. Ignoring Tank does not give you more damage — it lets you choose which bodies the same damage kills. Anyone pricing Dune Surfer as an excess-damage enabler has it wrong: excess (R28 = A) is attacking Might never assigned, and the total lethal requirement of the garrison is unchanged.
- 465.2.c.6 IS THE RULE THE WALL STANDS ON AND 465.2.c.8 IS ITS EDGE CASE: a body carrying BOTH Tank and Backline cannot satisfy both, so the assigning player picks one requirement to fulfil (Riot's example is Caitlyn, Patrolling given Tank). Dune Surfer removes the Tank half of that choice at his battlefield.
- [ACCELERATE] IS WHAT MAKES THE ANSWER SAME-TURN. 805.1.a: 'Accelerate is functionally short for "As you play me, you may pay [1][C] as an additional cost. If you do, I enter ready."' So Armed Assailant lands and attacks in the same Main Phase for 7 Energy + 1 Fury Power + 1 Fury Power, instead of telegraphing itself a turn early against a defender who can rebuild the wall.
- THE SUMMED MIGHT IS 9 AND IT IS SPENT WHERE YOU WANT IT. 465.2.c: 'Starting with the Attacker, each player assigns an amount of damage equal to their summed Might among the other's Units' — Dune Surfer's 3 plus Armed Assailant's 6 — and with Tank inactive that 9 can be spread as two lethal assignments on the bodies that matter rather than sunk into an 8-Might wall.
- HIS [WEAPONMASTER] IS A FREE ATTACH, NOT A FREE EQUIPMENT: 'for :rb_rune_rainbow: less' covers the 29 Equipment whose [Equip] is a single rune, and it equips 'to me', so it can only ever pay for carrier-INDEPENDENT gear. It is a rider on this line, not part of it.
Steps
- Play Dune Surfer (3 Energy) and walk him to the battlefield you intend to attack, or bring him with the attack.
- Play Armed Assailant (6 Energy + 1 Fury Power), paying [Accelerate]'s extra 1 Energy + 1 Fury Power so he enters ready (805.1.a).
- Move both to the enemy battlefield as one game action (144.3, 144.3.a), paying each unit's exhaust (144.2).
- In the damage step, 766 treats every instance of [Tank] on their units as inactive while you assign here, so 465.2.c.6 has no requirement left to enforce.
- Assign your summed 9 Might (465.2.c) as two full lethal assignments (465.2.c.3, 465.2.c.4) onto the bodies you actually want dead, leaving the wall untouched.
Per iteration
the same summed Might, spent on chosen bodies rather than on a Tank
How it ends
engine — the garrison's real threats die instead of its wall, every turn Dune Surfer stands at that battlefield; nothing here scores beyond whatever Conquer winning the combat produces (466.5.d)

VEN-004 Dune Surfer and SFD-002 Armed Assailant were both in ZERO entries. Card text verbatim from data/corpus_flat.txt; 103.1.b.1, 144.2, 144.3, 144.3.a, 144.4, 465.2.c, 465.2.c.3, 465.2.c.4, 465.2.c.6, 465.2.c.8, 466.5.d, 765, 766, 805.1.a, 815.1.c.2, 818.1 opened in the Core Rules file. The second notable REFUSES the obvious reading of this card (that ignoring Tank generates excess damage) with 465.2.c.4 and R28 = A — it changes which bodies die, not how much damage there is. No unruled reading.
