Eclipse Herald × Zenith Blade — one spell stuns, readies him and walks him into the fight
Pieces
- Eclipse Herald ×1
OGN-059 · payoff · calm
When you stun an enemy unit, ready me and give me +1 Might this turn.
- Zenith Blade ×1
OGN-262 · engine · calm/order
[Action] (Play on your turn or in showdowns.) Stun an enemy unit at a battlefield. You may move a friendly unit to that enemy unit's battlefield. (A stunned unit doesn't deal combat damage this turn.)
Payoff
Deck
- Zenith Blade is a Calm/Order card and Eclipse Herald is mono-Calm, so the identity is Calm/Order — Radiant Dawn, Emperor of the Sands, Green Father, Eye of Twilight.
Prerequisites
- ONE CARD PAYS ALL THREE HALVES, WHICH IS WHY IT BEATS THE CHEAPER STUNS IN THE LIST. Zenith Blade stuns (so the Herald readies and grows), and then moves a friendly unit to that enemy unit's battlefield — and that friendly unit may be the Herald himself. OGN-050 Rune Prison stuns for 1 Energy less and does nothing else; OGN-238 Leona, Determined stuns for free but only on a battlefield she is already attacking.
- THE ORDER INSIDE THE SPELL IS WHAT MAKES IT FREE. The stun resolves first, so the Herald's trigger has already readied him when the move half resolves; the move is an effect move (420.2.a) and 420.3.a puts the exhaust cost only on the Standard Move, so it costs him nothing either way. He arrives at 7 + 1 = 8 Might, unexhausted, at a battlefield whose biggest threat has just been blanked.
- Moving him there makes him the Attacker: 190.3.a.1 applies Contested status to units moving to a battlefield whose control is not already yours, and 464.2.c.1 makes 'the player whose unit(s) applied the Contested status' the Attacker. That is the point — but it also means the ordinary trap applies, and an EMPTY enemy battlefield gives no Attacker designation at all (807.1.d, 383.4.e, 461), so there must be a garrison for the stun to have a target in the first place.
- 423.1.b is the whole defensive value: 'A Stunned Unit does not contribute its might to damage in the combat damage step.' 423.1.c is the limit — it still needs damage equal to its full Might to die (#61's correction) — so the Blade buys the Herald a safe attack, not a kill.
- The ready is worth one extra Standard Move and nothing on defence, since combat does not read exhaustion (464.2.c.3, 465.2.b). Stated because a card that says 'ready me' reads like an untap engine and is not one: the +1 Might is a continuous modifier that stacks per stun event, and that is the half that compounds.
- Three copies (103.2.b) and 3 Energy + 2 Power each — the Power is the real cost, two of it in one spell against #44's measured free floor of 2 Power a turn.
- 423.1.a.1 forbids stunning an already-stunned unit and 423.1.a.2 clears the stun at the end-of-turn cleanup, so nothing here locks anything down.
Steps
- Have Eclipse Herald on the board (7 Energy + 1 Calm Power), at your base or anywhere.
- Cast Zenith Blade (3 Energy + 2 Power) on your Main Phase, choosing an enemy unit at the battlefield you want to take.
- The stun resolves: 423.1.b takes that unit's Might out of the coming combat damage step, and Eclipse Herald's trigger fires — he readies and gets +1 Might this turn.
- Resolve the spell's second half: move Eclipse Herald to that battlefield. It is an effect move (420.2.a), so no exhaust is charged (420.3.a).
- 190.3.a.1 applies Contested and 464.2.c.1 makes you the Attacker. He fights at 8 Might against a garrison whose stunned member deals no damage back.

Both cards checked against data/legality.json: legal in both formats. No unruled reading. Zenith Blade was chosen over the cheaper Rune Prison and the free Leona, Determined because it is the only partner in the list that pays the stun, the ready and the relocation out of one card.
