VEN-147 · legend · calm/order
[Action][>] Exhaust: Give a friendly unit [Tank] this turn. (It must be assigned combat damage first.)

Payoff
Deck
- Eye of Twilight IS the legend, VEN-147 or VEN-193 (Calm/Order), so this is a one-legend line by construction. Zephyr Sage is mono-Calm, so 103.1.b.3 is satisfied and the Order half is free for the rest of the deck.
Prerequisites
- WHY THE GRANT IS WORTH MORE THAN THE KEYWORD. 815.1.c.2: 'If more than one unit with Tank is present with the same controller in Combat, damage may be assigned to any of them. Units without Tank are invalid assignments until all units with Tank have lethal damage assigned to them.' Granting [Tank] to exactly ONE body therefore does not protect that body — it protects every OTHER body you have there, by making them illegal assignments until the Sage is dead.
- AND WHAT SURVIVING BODIES BUY IS THE BATTLEFIELD. 323.6 takes Control from a player 'without their Units occupying them' at the next Cleanup, so an attack that kills the Sage and nothing else leaves you still holding the battlefield, and 315.2.b.2 still Holds it at your next Beginning Phase.
- THE TIMING IS THE CARD. Grant it inside the Combat, after 464.2.c.3 has designated the attackers and you can count their summed Might (465.2.c), not in your Main Phase on a guess. 806.1.b is the permission and 312.2.c is what gives you priority in the Closed State to use it.
- SEVEN IS THE NUMBER, AND IT IS EXACT. 814.1.c reads the Sage at Might 6 + 1 = 7 while she is a defender, 815.1.c.1 forces lethal onto her before the next unit, and 465.2.c.4 forbids assigning her more than the minimum needed to kill. So the toll is exactly 7 summed attacking Might, no more and no less.
- ONE GRANT PER TURN ON THIS BOARD, AND THE REASON IS NARROWER THAN IT LOOKS. 815.2 makes multiple instances of Tank redundant, and the cost is the legend's own exhaust, which 315.1.b returns only at your next Awakening. That is NOT a general cap: five cards in the pool ready a legend, so a legend's exhaust is not once a turn by itself. What holds it here is that the readiers cannot act in the window this line needs - SFD-039 Royal Entourage is a UNIT with neither [Action] nor [Reaction], so 381 and 155 keep it to your own Main Phase, while this grant is made on the OPPONENT's turn inside their attack. 415.1.c also means the legend must already be EXHAUSTED before a readier is played, or the ready does nothing. Narrowed 2026-09-07 after a later walk showed the original sentence was true of this board and false as stated (see royal-entourage-eye-of-twilight-double-tank, which doubles the grant on YOUR turn).
- IT DOES NOT SCORE AND IT IS NOT A LOCK: an attacker with 7 or more summed Might pays the toll and proceeds to the rest of your garrison in the same damage step.
Steps
- Deck-build under an Eye of Twilight legend (VEN-147 or VEN-193) and garrison a battlefield with Zephyr Sage alongside whatever the deck actually wants to keep alive there.
- The opponent attacks. 190.3.a.1 applies Contested, 323.9 stages the Combat, 464.2.c.3 designates the attackers and 464.2.e gives your bodies the Defender designation.
- In the Combat's Closed State, where 312.2.c gives you priority, activate the legend: exhaust it and give Zephyr Sage [Tank] this turn. 806.1.c.2 is the permission to do it on the opponent's turn.
- 814.1.c reads the Sage at Might 7 as a defender. 815.1.c.2 now makes every other unit you control in this Combat an invalid damage assignment until she has lethal damage.
- 465.2.c.3 and 465.2.c.4 make the attacker spend exactly 7 of their summed Might on her before anything else of yours can be assigned a point.
- 143.3.b.1 heals the marked damage at the end of the turn and 315.1.b readies the legend at your next Awakening, so the grant is available again every turn.
How it ends
engine only — one damage redirect per turn, costing an attacker exactly 7 summed Might to get past; nothing here scores and 815.2 makes a second grant on the same body redundant

How this entry was audited
REFUTE = a refutation pass, with its date and verdict · WOUNDED = the pass found a flaw and the entry was rewritten · BUDGETED = the pass checked the recycle-and-draw ledger · lens = the hunt that proposed it.
HAND-WALKED 2026-09-07, issue #171 — the fifth of the ten uncatalogued legend names, and the first entry to use VEN-147 or OGS-005. Card text verbatim from data/corpus_flat.txt. The inversion is the content: granting [Tank] to one body is a protection for every OTHER body, which is the opposite of how the keyword reads, and 815.1.c.2 is quoted so the claim stands on the paragraph. Trap check: the toll is stated as an exact number derived from 814.1.c + 815.1.c.1 + 465.2.c.4 rather than as a general 'wall' claim; 815.2 and the legend's own exhaust are cited so the grant is not doubled or reused within a turn; 143.3.b.1 is cited so nothing is banked across turns; no attack is claimed on your side, so 807.1.d / 383.4.e / 461 never come up; produces is empty, as on the other defensive entries the vocabulary does not yet cover (issue #157).
