718.2 makes an [Equip] Inactive only WHILE attached, so a bounce to hand is the legal way to move Equipment to a new carrier

Prerequisites
- THE BOUNCE IS ALSO A TOOL FOR YOUR OWN EQUIPMENT, AND THIS IS THE HALF WORTH KNOWING. 718.2 makes an attached card's printed Rules Text Inactive 'while in this state', and 721.2 says Inactive abilities 'cannot be activated' — so an attached Equipment can never pay its own [Equip] again, and the catalogue's standing rule is that the only relocations are ATTACH effects. `SFD-135 Factory Recall` is the other door: return it to your hand, the card is no longer attached, its printed Rules Text is Active again, and replaying it lets you pay the [Equip] for a NEW carrier. One Energy, at [Action] speed.
- AND ON A [QUICK-DRAW] EQUIPMENT IT COSTS NOTHING AT ALL. 819.1.d: 'Quick-Draw is functionally short for "[Reaction]" and "When you play this, attach it to a Unit you control."' No [Equip] cost is ever determined, so bounce-and-replay moves such a gear to a new body for its play cost alone — `SFD-186 Spinning Axe` (Fury/Chaos, E2 P1, M+3) is the in-identity instance.
- USED ON THEIR GEAR IT IS TEMPO AND USED ON YOURS IT IS RESCUE. At [Action] speed (806.1.b) it answers a `VEN-003 Brittle Steel` or an `OGN-179 Acceptable Losses` aimed at your own Equipment by removing the object before the kill resolves — and 434.1.f/434.4 are not needed, because a bounce is not an attach. CORRECTED 2026-10-26 (#477, from the run play docs/plays/2026-10-26-factory-recall-saves-the-axe-only-inside-a-showdown-brittle-steel-trades-a-card-for-rells-free-sword-and-angle-shot-ends-the-axe-for-two-runes.md): the rescue does not work in response to a removal spell. Factory Recall is [Action], and 806.1.c.1 reads: 'On Cards: "This can be played during showdowns on any player's turn."' A spell on the chain is a Closed State (309.1: 'If a Chain exists, the turn is in a Closed State.') and 309.1.a: 'Only cards and abilities with the Reaction keyword can be played or activated in a Closed State.' So once Brittle Steel or Acceptable Losses is on the chain Factory Recall cannot be played (a chain is a Closed State). Brittle Steel (and Detonate) is a plain spell cast outside showdowns on its controller's turn (155: 'A spell can be played during an Open State outside of Showdowns on its controller's turn.'), where [Action] has no window on their turn. OGN-179 Acceptable Losses is itself '[Action] (Play on your turn or in showdowns.)', so it can be cast inside a showdown, but once on the chain only [Reaction] answers it (309.1.a). What does work: inside a showdown, before anything is aimed at the gear (an attack on your Equipment-carrying unit), Factory Recall returns the gear before damage. The first sentence 'answers ... by removing the object before the kill resolves' is withdrawn. The first notable's 'One Energy, at [Action] speed' stands, and it is the showdown speed.
- BRITTLE STEEL IS THE PERMANENT HALF AND ITS COUNT IS SIX. 829.1.b: 'You may play this from your trash for its flow cost. Then banish it', so three copies (103.2.b) plus one replay each is six gear kills a game, and 108.6.c makes each replay final. Killing sends the card to the trash rather than banishing it, so a reanimator on their side still reaches it — Factory Recall's bounce does not, since a hand is not a trash.
- NEITHER IS PROGRAMMATIC, SO BOTH PAY THE TAX. 'Kill a gear' and 'Return a gear' both choose, so 809.1.c charges [Deflect] an extra Power per choice and 054.1 makes an absolute 'can't be chosen' clause stop them outright. Contrast `OGN-022 Thermo Beam`'s 'Kill all gear' and `OGN-179 Acceptable Losses`, which 355.10.d and 355.10.e keep off the tax entirely — a Fury/Chaos list has both kinds and should know which it is holding.
- 185.2.d IS WHY A GOLD TOKEN COUNTS AS A TARGET: 'Tokens have a type. They follow all rules for their type unless otherwise specified.' Killing an opponent's Gold with Brittle Steel is legal and is usually a waste of a card — the entry names it so it is a choice, not a surprise.
- THE RESCUE MATTERS MOST ON A [TEMPORARY] EQUIPMENT - ADDED 2026-10-26 (#477, from the run play docs/plays/2026-10-26-factory-recall-saves-the-axe-only-inside-a-showdown-brittle-steel-trades-a-card-for-rells-free-sword-and-angle-shot-ends-the-axe-for-two-runes.md): when a carrier leaves the board its Equipment stays (719.5: 'When a Top-Most Card changes zones from a board zone to a non-board zone, all Attached cards Detach from it, remaining in their current zones.'). An unattached SFD-186 Spinning Axe then dies at the start of its controller's Beginning Phase (816.1.b: 'It is functionally short for "At the start of this permanent's controller's Beginning Phase, before scoring, kill this."'), before the Main Phase where its [Equip] could re-attach it (151.2: 'The Activated Ability of Gear may be executed at any time during the controlling player's Main Phase during an Open State, and not during a Showdown.'). The [Temporary] trigger is on a chain, a Closed State (309.1), so Factory Recall cannot reach it there. An Axe whose carrier dies on their turn is dead unless it leaves the board or is re-attached ([Reaction], SFD-011 Angle Shot, below) in that same showdown, since an attached card's printed text, [Temporary] included, is Inactive (718.2). Factory Recall's is the leaving-the-board rescue. Whether a re-attach in response to the [Temporary] trigger itself saves it is a separate question and is not claimed either way here. The second notable names the Axe for its free move and not for this.
- THE OTHER DOOR IS NOT THE ONLY DOOR, AND NOT THE CHEAPEST - ADDED 2026-10-26 (#477, from the run play docs/plays/2026-10-26-factory-recall-saves-the-axe-only-inside-a-showdown-brittle-steel-trades-a-card-for-rells-free-sword-and-angle-shot-ends-the-axe-for-two-runes.md): in the same identity SFD-011 Angle Shot (Fury, E2, [Reaction], draw 1) reads: '[Reaction] (Play any time, even before spells and abilities resolve.) Choose a unit and an Equipment with the same controller. Attach that Equipment to that unit or detach that Equipment from that unit. Draw 1.' It attaches an Equipment to a new unit in one card, in a Closed State, for 2 Energy and no Power, against Factory Recall's 1 Energy plus the Axe's replay of 2 Energy and 1 Power. SFD-008 Sentinel Adept (Fury, E3 M3) reads: '[Weaponmaster] (When you play me, you may [Equip] one of your Equipment to me for :rb_rune_rainbow: less, even if it's already attached.)' and also moves one. The first notable's 'the other door' is therefore one of three.
- ANGLE SHOT IS ALSO THE ENEMY-FACING ANSWER, AND THE ENTRY DID NOT NAME IT - ADDED 2026-10-26 (#477, from the run play docs/plays/2026-10-26-factory-recall-saves-the-axe-only-inside-a-showdown-brittle-steel-trades-a-card-for-rells-free-sword-and-angle-shot-ends-the-axe-for-two-runes.md): SFD-011 Angle Shot reads 'Choose a unit and an Equipment with the same controller. Attach that Equipment to that unit or detach that Equipment from that unit. Draw 1.' The two objects must share a controller, but nothing says it is the caster, so an opponent can choose your unit and your Equipment and detach it, at [Reaction] speed. On a [Temporary] Equipment that ends it (816.1.b: unattached, it is killed at the start of its controller's Beginning Phase), and Factory Recall ([Action]) has no window against it (309.1.a). Against a unit with [Deflect] it also pays the Deflect tax. UNRULED: 819.1.c reads 'Quick-Draw allows cards to be played and Attached using Reaction timing.' The play reads 'Attached' as the attach 819.1.d makes on the play, not as [Reaction] timing for the [Equip] ability (151.2, 331.1.b). If 819.1.c instead gives the [Equip] [Reaction] timing, an unattached Axe could re-attach itself for one Power inside the [Temporary] trigger's Closed State, and Angle Shot would not end the Axe. No ruling covers it; reported for filing. SETTLED 2026-10-26 (#487, finding in docs/rules-notes/rules-findings.md): by rules text, no R-number. 'Attached' in 819.1.c is the attach 819.1.d makes on the play, not [Reaction] timing for the [Equip] ability. 819.1.d expands the keyword to a card-format [Reaction] (813.1.d: 'Reaction is formatted as “[Reaction]” on cards, or “[Reaction][>]” on abilities.'), and 309.1.a asks it of the ability: 'Only cards and abilities with the Reaction keyword can be played or activated in a Closed State.' The Axe's [Equip] carries none, so it keeps 151.2 and 331.1.b and cannot re-attach the Axe inside the [Temporary] trigger's Closed State. Angle Shot ends the Axe. Still open and not claimed here: whether a re-attach by another card's [Reaction] while that trigger is on the chain saves it.
- USED ON THEIR [QUICK-DRAW] GEAR THE TEMPO IS UNDONE - ADDED 2026-10-26 (#477, from the run play docs/plays/2026-10-26-factory-recall-saves-the-axe-only-inside-a-showdown-brittle-steel-trades-a-card-for-rells-free-sword-and-angle-shot-ends-the-axe-for-two-runes.md): the notable 'USED ON THEIR GEAR IT IS TEMPO' is right, and a [Quick-Draw] gear has [Reaction] (819.1.d), so when your chain closes Focus passes to them (347.1.b: 'When that Chain closes, Focus passes to the next Player in Turn Order.') and they can replay it in that same showdown while they have the runes. The bounce costs them the play cost again and costs you a card.
Steps
- Against their Equipment: play Brittle Steel (2 Energy + 1 Fury Power) to kill it, and later replay it from the trash for its [Flow] cost of 4 Energy + 1 Fury Power.
- Against a removal spell aimed at YOUR Equipment: play Factory Recall (1 Energy, [Action]) in response and return your own gear to hand. CORRECTED 2026-10-26 (#477, from the run play docs/plays/2026-10-26-factory-recall-saves-the-axe-only-inside-a-showdown-brittle-steel-trades-a-card-for-rells-free-sword-and-angle-shot-ends-the-axe-for-two-runes.md): this holds only inside a showdown, before the gear is aimed at: Factory Recall is [Action] (806.1.c.1), a removal spell on the chain makes a Closed State where only [Reaction] can be played (309.1.a), and spells like Brittle Steel are cast outside showdowns (155). As written, 'in response' is wrong.
- To move an Equipment to a different carrier: Factory Recall it to hand — 718.2's Inactive state ends the moment it is no longer attached — then replay it and pay its [Equip] for the new body (818.1).
- On a [Quick-Draw] Equipment, skip the [Equip] entirely: 819.1.d attaches it on the play, to a unit you choose.
Per iteration
one enemy gear destroyed for 2 Energy + 1 Power, or one gear relocated / rescued for 1 Energy
How it ends
engine — six gear kills a game from Brittle Steel and one bounce per Factory Recall, plus a legal route for your own Equipment to change carriers; nothing here scores CORRECTED 2026-10-26 (#477, from the run play docs/plays/2026-10-26-factory-recall-saves-the-axe-only-inside-a-showdown-brittle-steel-trades-a-card-for-rells-free-sword-and-angle-shot-ends-the-axe-for-two-runes.md): against a deck that plays Equipment for nothing (Rell's free Long Sword), each Brittle Steel kill is a card and a rune of yours for a card of theirs that cost no rune, and the [Flow] replay costs E4 and one Fury, twice the first cast's Energy. In the walk the Steel left you 4 to 3 after their T4, the same as the control.

How this entry was audited
REFUTE = a refutation pass, with its date and verdict · WOUNDED = the pass found a flaw and the entry was rewritten · BUDGETED = the pass checked the recycle-and-draw ledger · lens = the hunt that proposed it.
SFD-135 Factory Recall and VEN-003 Brittle Steel were both in ZERO entries. Card text verbatim from data/corpus_flat.txt; 054.1, 103.1.b.2, 103.2.b, 108.6.c, 185.2.d, 355.10.d, 355.10.e, 718.2, 721.2, 806.1.b, 809.1.c, 818.1, 818.1.b, 819.1.d, 829.1.b opened in the Core Rules file. The first notable is a CONSEQUENCE of the catalogue's #170 correction (an already-attached Equipment can never pay its own [Equip] again) rather than a challenge to it: 718.2 scopes the Inactive state to WHILE ATTACHED, so removing the attachment restores the printed text, and a bounce to hand is therefore a legal — and cheap — way to change carriers. No unruled reading. CORRECTED 2026-10-26 (#477): the Leads of the #474 play (see the dated notes in the third notable, step 2 and terminatesIn) withdraw the 'in response' rescue. The entry's headline claim (718.2, a bounce moves Equipment to a new carrier, and [Quick-Draw] skips the [Equip]) is untouched and the play confirmed it, so status stays verified. One reading is unruled: 819.1.c (see the Angle Shot notable); every lead is applied. SETTLED 2026-10-26 (#487, finding in docs/rules-notes/rules-findings.md): 819.1.c by rules text, no R-number; [Quick-Draw] gives the card [Reaction], not its [Equip] (see the Angle Shot notable).
