Hallowed Tomb returns the pool's only Deathknell Chosen Champion — LeBlanc, Fragmented dies in your Beginning Phase for two cards and is back in the Champion Zone the same phase
Pieces
- Hallowed Tomb ×1
OGN-281 · battlefield
When you hold here, you may return your Chosen Champion from your trash to your Champion Zone if it is empty.
- LeBlanc, Fragmented ×1
UNL-172 · payoff · order
[Assault] (+1 Might while I'm an attacker.) [Deathknell][>] Draw 1. If it's your Beginning Phase, draw 2 instead. (When I die, get the effect.)
- Shadow's Call ×3
UNL-165 · enabler · order
Choose a friendly unit without [Temporary]. Give it [Temporary]. Draw 2. (Kill it at the start of its controller's Beginning Phase, before scoring.)
- Honest Broker ×1
SFD-155 · enabler · order
[Deathknell] — Play a Gold gear token exhausted. (When I die, get the effect.)
- Deceiver ×1
UNL-199 · legend · mind/order
When you conquer or hold, you may discard 1 and exhaust me to play a ready Reflection unit token there. Then do this: It becomes a copy of another unit there. Give it [Temporary].
Payoff
Deck
- The legend is forced to Deceiver, UNL-199 or UNL-235 (Mind/Order), by 103.2.a.2 and the LeBlanc tag — this is a one-legend line, not a domain line. Every other card is mono-Order or Colorless, so 103.1.b.3 is satisfied.
Run play
Prerequisites
- THE TWO TRIGGERS SIT IN DIFFERENT STEPS OF THE SAME PHASE, WHICH IS THE WHOLE ENTRY. 315.2.a is the Beginning Step, where 'at the start of Beginning Phase game effects take place' and 816.1.b kills the [Temporary] LeBlanc 'before scoring'. 315.2.b is the Scoring Step, where 315.2.b.2 Holds your battlefields and the Tomb's clause fires. So she is already in the trash when the Tomb looks for her, and the Champion Zone is already empty because you played her out of it — 108.3.c.1 satisfied.
- AND HER DEATHKNELL READS THE SAME WINDOW: 'If it's your Beginning Phase, draw 2 instead.' It is. The clause is dead letter on any other kill and worth double on this one.
- SHE IS PLAYED FROM THE CHAMPION ZONE, NEVER DRAWN. 108.3.d: 'The Chosen Champion can be played from here as normal, following the rules of Playing a Card', and 108.3.e makes the zone Public Information. That is what makes the recursion reliable — the loop never asks the deck for anything.
- 103.2.a.3 MEANS THE CHOSEN CHAMPION IS A NAME, NOT A CARD: 'A player's Chosen Champion is both the specific card chosen for this slot during Deck Building and also any Champion Unit with the same name.' So the Tomb can return whichever copy reached the trash, and the two copies still in the deck are also Chosen Champions if they get there.
- THE DOUBLED DRAW IS THREE TURNS, THE RECURSION IS UNBOUNDED. Shadow's Call is capped at three copies by 103.2.b and is consumed each time. After the third, LeBlanc still comes back from every death — combat, a sacrifice, anything — and her Deathknell still draws 1; only the scheduled Beginning-Phase death and its extra card run out.
- BURN OUT IS THE REAL CEILING. Four cards in a turn (Shadow's Call's two plus the Deathknell's two) on top of 315.4's draw, against a deck of 39 (103.2 counts the Chosen Champion inside the 40 and 103.2.a.1 removes it before play), and 431.1.a gives the opponent a point for drawing past it. Count the deck before running the third copy.
- HALLOWED TOMB IS NOT GUARANTEED TO BE ON THE TABLE: 485.4.a puts one of your three into a Duel, 485.5 picks it at random, 486.5 lets you choose in 1v1 Match play, and 103.4.c forbids a second copy of the name.
Steps
- Deck-build LeBlanc, Fragmented into the Chosen Champion slot under a Deceiver legend (103.2.a.1, 103.2.a.2). She starts in the Champion Zone.
- Take Hallowed Tomb and keep a body on it — Honest Broker is enough. Control is what 315.2.b.2 reads, and 323.6 takes it back the moment the battlefield is empty.
- Main Phase: play LeBlanc from the Champion Zone (108.3.d) for E3 + 1 Order Power. The zone is now empty, which is the condition 108.3.c.1 will check.
- Same Main Phase, play Shadow's Call (E2) choosing her: 'Choose a friendly unit without [Temporary]. Give it [Temporary]. Draw 2.' Draw two now.
- Your next Beginning Phase, Beginning Step (315.2.a): 816.1.b kills her before scoring. Her Deathknell resolves in your Beginning Phase, so it draws 2, not 1. She is in the trash.
- Same Beginning Phase, Scoring Step (315.2.b): you Hold Hallowed Tomb — Honest Broker is still standing on it, so 323.6 never took it — and the Tomb returns her from the trash to the empty Champion Zone.
- Main Phase: play her from the Champion Zone again and repeat. The Tomb half repeats forever; the Shadow's Call half repeats three times (103.2.b).
Per iteration
4 cards a turn (Shadow's Call 2 + Deathknell 2) for E5 + 1 Order Power, for three turns; one card a turn and a free replay of the Chosen Champion thereafter
How it ends
engine only — the Tomb makes the Chosen Champion a permanently available card instead of a one-shot; nothing here scores, and Burn Out (431.1.a) is what ends it if the drawing is not counted

How this entry was audited
REFUTE = a refutation pass, with its date and verdict · WOUNDED = the pass found a flaw and the entry was rewritten · BUDGETED = the pass checked the recycle-and-draw ledger · lens = the hunt that proposed it.
HAND-WALKED 2026-09-07, issue #171. Card text verbatim from data/corpus_flat.txt; every paragraph opened in data/Riftbound-Core-Rules-2026-07-16.txt. Two uniqueness claims here were swept over base codes rather than asserted: Hallowed Tomb is the only card that returns a Chosen Champion to the Champion Zone (2 rows for 'champion zone' in the corpus, the other one empties it), and LeBlanc, Fragmented is the only unit in the pool that is both a legal Chosen Champion under some legend and carries a Deathknell (48 champion tags are printed on legends; intersecting the units that carry one with the units that print 'Deathknell' leaves one row). Trap check: the Reflection half of Deceiver's own text is deliberately NOT used — a Reflection is a token, so 186.1 keeps it out of the trash and the Tomb could never return one; no attack is claimed; the sole-garrison trap of 323.6 is answered inside uses[] with a second body rather than in prose, per the #165 audit; 167 never bites because nothing here banks Energy across a phase; exactly one battlefield is named, so 485.4.a is respected.
