Combo · ENGINE
[Flow] is the only way to choose Jae twice with one card — and Dragon Form is the spell whose effect does nothing to him
Pieces
- Jae Medarda ×1
SFD-142 · payoff · chaos
When you choose me with a spell, draw 1.
- Dragon Form ×3
VEN-116 · engine · order
Choose a unit. Its base Might becomes 5 this turn. [Flow] 3 Energy (You may play this from your trash for its Flow cost. Then banish it.)
Payoff
Deck
- Chaos + Order, and the legend census makes that a ONE-NAME pair: Heart of the Tempest (VEN-155, and its second printing VEN-197). There is no other Chaos/Order legend in the pool.
- Jae Medarda on the board — he is the target that makes the spell unconditionally castable.
Prerequisites
- SIX PLAYS FROM THREE CARDS, AND [Flow] IS THE ONLY SOURCE OF THAT IN THE POOL. 829.1.b: '[Flow] is functionally short for "You may play this from your trash for its flow cost. Then banish it."' So each copy is cast once from hand and once from the trash — 103.2.b's three copies are SIX castings, hence six Jae draws, and 829.1.b.2 confirms 'Playing a spell for its Flow cost does not change the timing at which it can be [played]'. 108.6.c keeps the banished copy gone afterwards, so it is exactly two plays per card and never an engine.
- THE SPELL WAS CHOSEN BECAUSE IT IS SAFE TO AIM AT JAE, WHICH IS THE FILLER TEST. A card taken purely to satisfy a 'choose me' trigger is doing no work of its own, which is exactly why it gets picked on cost and never re-read — and the project's rule is that filler must be unconditionally castable. 'Choose a unit' with Jae on the board always has a legal target, and 'Its base Might becomes 5 this turn' is a no-op on a printed 5-Might body. Compare VEN-127 Lacerate, the other Order [Flow] spell in Jae's row: it also chooses a unit, but 'kill it if it has 3 [M] or less' means aiming it at a small friendly body is a kill — safe on Jae at 5, lethal as habit.
- AND THE SPELL IS NOT WASTED WHEN IT IS NOT FILLER. On the turns you want the effect, Dragon Form on a 1- or 2-Might token turns it into a 5-Might body, and 143.2.a then needs five damage to kill it. Jae only has to be the target on the turns you are casting for the card.
- THE FALSE-POSITIVE TEST IS THE WORD 'SPELL'. Jae reads 'When you choose me with a spell' — of his nineteen matrix partners, the unit, gear, battlefield and legend choosers (SFD-195 Blade Dancer, SFD-144 Spirit Wheel, SFD-050 Azir, OGN-279 Fortified Position, OGN-023 Unlicensed Armory, VEN-137 Shady Spectacles, VEN-079 Dame the Despoiler, OGN-199 Tideturner) never fire him at all, and UNL-139 Bone Skewer / VEN-104 / VEN-114 choose cards in a hand or a trash rather than him. That leaves the spells, and among the spells this is the only card that is chosen twice.
- The Chaos/Order identity is a one-name field, which is unusual and worth stating: the legend census has fifteen domain pairs and three of them carry a single name, Chaos/Order being one (Heart of the Tempest, VEN-155 / VEN-197).
- Priced whole: 3 Energy from hand, 3 Energy from the trash, per copy — 18 Energy across a game for six cards drawn and six castings of a real effect, on a Jae already in play at E5 + 2 Chaos Power.
Steps
- Play Jae Medarda (5 Energy + 2 Chaos Power) and keep him on the board.
- Cast Dragon Form from hand for 3 Energy, choosing Jae (a no-op on his printed 5 Might) or a small body you want at 5.
- Jae's trigger fires on the choice: draw 1.
- The spell goes to your trash.
- On a later turn, play the same copy from the trash for its [Flow] cost of 3 Energy (829.1.b), choosing Jae again: draw a second card. The copy is then banished.
- Repeat with the other two copies: six castings, six cards, from three deck slots.
Per iteration
-3 Energy, +1 card, and one unit's base Might set to 5 this turn
How it ends
engine — six cards drawn from three deck slots over a game (two castings per copy, 829.1.b), at 3 Energy each; nothing here scores

AUTHORED 2026-09-07, issue #169, second pass over matrix row 13 (trigger card SFD-142 Jae Medarda, 19 partners, 2 entries before this walk). VEN-116 Dragon Form was in ZERO entries. Card text verbatim from data/corpus_flat.txt; 103.1.b.2, 103.2.b, 108.6.c, 143.2.a, 355.7, 829.1.b, 829.1.b.2 opened in the Core Rules file. Both cards legal in both formats; neither is Signature. Card set SFD-142 + VEN-116 is not an existing uses[] set. No unruled reading. The second notable applies the project's own filler rule (a leg chosen only to satisfy a condition must be unconditionally castable) as the selection criterion rather than as an afterthought.
