[Repeat] — Discard 1 (You may pay the additional cost to repeat this spell's effect.) Give a unit [Assault 4] this turn. (+4 Might while it's an attacker.)
Payoff
Deck
- Legend domains must cover Chaos (Jinx) and Fury (Square Up) — Loose Cannon, Dark Child ‑ Starter, Glorious Executioner, Bloodharbor Ripper, Master of Shadows. Five names, the widest pair available to either card.
Prerequisites
- ONE CARD DOES BOTH HALVES, AND THAT IS THE WHOLE PAIR. Square Up's additional cost is *Discard 1* — 820.1.c.1 makes a [Repeat] cost 'an Additional Cost to be paid during the steps of playing the spell', so paying it discards a card while the spell is being played, which is exactly the event Jinx watches. No discard outlet card is needed; the spell is its own outlet.
- The arithmetic on Jinx as an attacker: 5 printed, +1 from her own trigger, and [Assault 8] if both executions of Square Up are pointed at her — 807.2 says outright that 'the Assault Value of all granted Assault keywords is summed', with a worked example of exactly this stacking. 5 + 1 + 8 = 14 Might while attacking, for 4 Energy and one card discarded.
- 820.1.b caps it: 'Repeat is an optional cost that a player may pay to execute the effect of their spells and abilities a second time.' A SECOND time, not repeatedly — so one cast is at most two executions and one discard event, and three copies (103.2.b) is three turns of this.
- 807.1.c is why the 8 only exists in the attack: '[Assault] is functionally short for While I am an attacker, I have +X [M]', and 807.1.d ties that to the Attacker designation. Entering an EMPTY enemy battlefield gives no designation at all (807.1.d, 383.4.e, 461), so the whole 14 evaporates against an opponent with no garrison.
- WHAT THE READY IS ACTUALLY FOR, stated because it is easy to overrate. Jinx has no exhaust ability, and readying a unit buys nothing on defence — combat does not read exhaustion (464.2.c.3 and 465.2.b do not filter by state, #61). It buys one extra Standard Move (144.2 charges the exhaust), which in practice is walking her home after the attack or out again the following turn. The +1 Might, by contrast, is a continuous modifier and stacks with every separate discard event that turn.
- 'One or more cards' means a single instruction that discards two is ONE event: OGN-020 Scrapyard Champion's 'discard 2, then draw 2' readies her once, not twice. Two readies need two separate discards.
Steps
- Play Jinx, Rebel (5 Energy + 1 Chaos Power) and move her to an occupied enemy battlefield so she gains the Attacker designation (464.2.c.1, 464.2.c.3).
- Cast Square Up (4 Energy) choosing Jinx, and pay the [Repeat] cost by discarding a card (820.1.c.1).
- The discard resolves as part of playing the spell: Jinx's trigger fires once — she readies and gets +1 Might this turn.
- Both executions of Square Up resolve, each granting [Assault 4]; 807.2 sums them to [Assault 8] on her.
- She fights the combat at 5 + 1 + 8 = 14 Might (807.1.c applies the 8 only while she is an attacker), and the ready leaves her a Standard Move afterwards.
How it ends
engine — a 14-Might attacker for one card and 4 Energy on the turn, three times a game, on a Jinx, Rebel already in play (E5 + 1 Chaos Power, paid once)

Card text verbatim from data/corpus_flat.txt; 103.2.b, 144.2, 383.4.e, 461, 464.2.c.1, 464.2.c.3, 465.2.b, 807.1.c, 807.1.d, 807.2, 820.1.b and 820.1.c.1 opened in the Core Rules file. Both cards checked against data/legality.json: legal in both formats. No unruled reading. The fifth notable states what the ready is NOT worth, because Jinx reads like an untap engine and is a Might engine — #61's finding that combat ignores exhaustion is what settles it.
