Combo · ENGINE
Karthus doubles every Deathknell — the Black Rose Dignitary dies for two runes instead of one
Pieces
- Karthus, Eternal ×1
OGN-236 · engine · order
Your [Deathknell] effects trigger an additional time.
- Black Rose Dignitary ×1
UNL-152 · payoff · order
[Assault] (+1 Might while I'm an attacker.) [Deathknell][>] Channel 1 rune exhausted. (When I die, get the effect.)
Payoff
Deck
- Both cards are Order, so any legend with Order works; the source's is a LeBlanc legend.
Prerequisites
- THE RUNES ARRIVE EXHAUSTED, SO THEY ARE NEXT TURN'S ENERGY. 'Channel 1 rune exhausted' twice is two runes on the board and zero Energy now; 315.1.b readies them in your next Awaken. That is ramp, not a burst.
- R1 = A IS THE RULE BEING USED AND IT IS ALREADY RULED. Karthus adds one extra instance of each Deathknell, and two Karthus add two - the same stacking the catalogue's other five Karthus entries stand on.
- IT NEEDS THE DIGNITARY TO DIE, WHICH IS A COST AND NOT A PLAN. A 2 Might body with [Assault] dies readily in combat, which is the deck's way of cashing it, but nothing here kills it on demand - that is what karthus-honest-broker-blade-gold buys with the Blade of the Ruined King.
- Karthus must be on the board when the Dignitary dies: 'Your Deathknell effects' is a static ability on him and 124 makes an object that changes zones a new object, so a Karthus in the trash does nothing.
- This is the cheapest of the six Karthus entries - two 3-Energy bodies - and the only one whose payload is runes.
Steps
- Karthus, Eternal on the board.
- Play Black Rose Dignitary (3 Energy).
- Let it die - in combat with [Assault], or to anything else.
- Its [Deathknell] channels 1 rune exhausted, and Karthus's static ability triggers it an additional time: a second rune, also exhausted.
- Both ready in your next Awaken (315.1.b).
Per iteration
+2 runes channelled exhausted per Dignitary death, instead of 1
How it ends
engine only - two runes per body that dies, ramp for next turn

How this entry was audited
REFUTE = a refutation pass, with its date and verdict · WOUNDED = the pass found a flaw and the entry was rewritten · BUDGETED = the pass checked the recycle-and-draw ledger · lens = the hunt that proposed it.
HAND-WALKED 2026-09-06 (docs/phase0/walks/2026-09-06-issue62-section3.md), issue #62 section 3. UNL-152 Black Rose Dignitary appeared in no entry before this. The source quote is a single sentence that names FOUR Karthus payloads, two of which the catalogue already holds - karthus-glasc-mixologist-double-reanimate and karthus-honest-broker-blade-gold - so it is also external corroboration for those, and it is cited on this entry rather than duplicated onto them. Card text verbatim from data/corpus_flat.txt. Trap check: no attack designation is required for the Deathknell; no [Repeat]; no [Temporary]; no token; no recall; the channelled runes are exhausted, so 167 never applies. Depends on R1 (ruled A).
