Run play
Prerequisites
- The timing is the whole entry and every step is printed: 816.1.b kills the [Temporary] unit 'at the start of this permanent's controller's Beginning Phase, before scoring'; 315.2.a.1 puts start-of-Beginning-Phase effects in the Beginning Step and 315.2.b is the Scoring Step after it, both inside the Beginning Phase (315.2). So when the Deathknell resolves it IS your Beginning Phase and 'draw 2 instead' is live.
- Gross is 8 cards for 5 Energy + 1 Power; NET is +6, because LeBlanc and Shadow's Call are the two cards you spent. Neighbours: one Karthus gives 4 from the Deathknell (net +4), zero gives 2 (net 0 and there is no line). The jump is the second Karthus.
- ANTI-SYNERGY with UNL-090 LeBlanc, Everywhere at Once, and they are two different LeBlanc: 'Your [Temporary] effects at my battlefield don't trigger' plus R10 = A means the kill never fires at her battlefield, so there is no Deathknell and no cards. Two catalogued entries want that other LeBlanc on the board.
- Burn Out is the real ceiling. The six cards land in the Beginning Phase, BEFORE the Draw Phase (315.4.b), and 431.1.a makes you draw what is left, Burn Out, and keep drawing.
Steps
- Turn N: play LeBlanc, Fragmented (3 Energy + 1 Power). Play Shadow's Call on her (2 Energy): she gains [Temporary] and you draw 2.
- Turn N+1, Beginning Step: 816.1.b kills her before scoring.
- Her Deathknell goes on the chain as a Pending Item before she reaches the trash (428.1.a.1.b, 808.1.d.2), and Karthus ×2 makes it trigger three times (R1 = A).
- Each instance reads 'If it's your Beginning Phase, draw 2 instead': six cards.
Per iteration
8 cards drawn for 5 Energy + 1 Power, net +6 cards; one-shot per LeBlanc
How it ends
engine — one burst of six cards per LeBlanc killed by [Temporary], bounded by the 3 copies of each piece and by Burn Out (431.1.a)

REFUTE = a refutation pass, with its date and verdict · WOUNDED = the pass found a flaw and the entry was rewritten · BUDGETED = the pass checked the recycle-and-draw ledger · lens = the hunt that proposed it.
HAND-WALKED 2026-09-05 (docs/phase0/walks/2026-09-05-death-and-return-candidates.md), issue #36. All card text verbatim from data/corpus_flat.txt; every rule opened in data/Riftbound-Core-Rules-2026-07-16.txt. FIRST ENTRY IN THE CATALOGUE ON OGN-236 Karthus, Eternal, which had zero appearances before today. The [Temporary] authoring trap from CLAUDE.md is used FORWARDS here rather than avoided: the start-of-Beginning-Phase kill is the condition LeBlanc is paid for. REWRITE against the issue: it quoted 8 cards without netting the two cards spent, so the entry states both. Trap check: no attack, so 807.1.d/383.4.e/461 cannot bite; every payment is a Main Phase cost so 167 does not bite; no [Repeat]; no recall; no rune recycled for Power. No new rules reading filed — the Karthus stack rides on R1 = A with stacking, already ruled 2026-09-03 for Blue Sentinel's identical 'trigger an additional time' wording.
