Payoff
Deck
- Mono-Order: any legend whose Domain Identity covers Order (103.1.b).
Prerequisites
- The Shears survive their carrier and come back for 1 Order Power: 435.4.b detaches them at the carrier's last location, 435.4.a and 149.3 recall an unattached non-unit gear from a battlefield to your base at the next Cleanup.
- PRICE, corrected against the issue, which stated a flat 2 Power for 3 cards and left it there. The FIRST body of a turn costs 1 Order Power (the Blade) if the Shears were already attached from an earlier turn; 2 Power is the rate from the second body onward, because you also pay to re-equip. Against the #21 loop ledger, where Power runs about 9 Energy, three cards for two Power is a BAD rate on its own and the entry says so.
- Where it is actually good: put the Shears on an Honest Broker and kill that (karthus-honest-broker-blade-gold). One Blade activation then yields 3 Gold AND 3 cards, so the pass reads −2 Energy, +1 Power net, +3 cards. The Broker is deliberately NOT in uses — the mechanism of this entry is 434.1.c, not the Gold.
- The Blade's attach must point at a body OTHER than the one you are killing: 355.5 makes the choice before the cost is paid, and 359.3.e.2 makes the target illegal on resolution if it left the board, so you would pay the kill and lose the attach. Alternating the Blade between two bodies needs no reading at all (434.1.f, 434.1.g).
- Burn Out (431.1.a) is the ceiling on any draw engine, and 3 copies of the Shears (103.2.b) let three bodies carry one from the start instead of re-equipping.
- Rider outside uses: OGN-246 Viktor, Leader plays a 1 Might Recruit into your base whenever another NON-Recruit unit you control dies, which is the next turn's body. 383.2.c.2's worked example is Viktor himself and warns that he does not trigger if he dies in the same game action.
Steps
- Equip Sacred Shears to the body you intend to kill (1 Order Power; free if it was already wearing them).
- Activate the Blade's [Equip] (1 Order Power) attaching to a DIFFERENT unit, paying the kill half of the cost with the Shears' carrier.
- 434.1.c had appended '[Deathknell] — Draw 1' to that carrier, so the Deathknell triggers, and Karthus ×2 runs it three times: three cards.
- The Shears detach at that location (435.4.b) and return to base at the next Cleanup (149.3). Re-equip for the next body.
Per iteration
3 cards per body, for 2 Order Power (1 if the Shears were already on it)
How it ends
engine — three cards per body killed, no per-turn cap; bounded by bodies to kill, by Power, and by Burn Out

HAND-WALKED 2026-09-05 (docs/phase0/walks/2026-09-05-death-and-return-candidates.md), issue #36. REWRITTEN on price: the issue declared '2 Power of Order -> 3 cards, no per-turn cap' and stopped there. Two things were missing and both are now in prerequisites — the first body of a turn is cheaper (1 Power) when the Shears were already attached, and three cards for two Power is a bad rate at the #21 ledger's ~9-Energy-per-Power, so the honest use is stacking the Shears on a body that already pays for itself. Kept as its own entry rather than folded into karthus-honest-broker-blade-gold because the load-bearing rule is different: 434.1.c, Equipment lending its Effect Text, which no other entry in the catalogue uses for a Deathknell. Trap check: no attack; no [Repeat]; no [Temporary]; no recall; no rune recycled for Power; costs paid in the Main Phase so 167 does not bite.
