Payoff
Deck
- Kayn and Ride the Wind are mono-Chaos and Back-Alley Bar is colourless, so any Chaos legend runs the whole line.
- Back-Alley Bar is one of your three battlefields: 485.4.a says only 1 of the 3 is used, and it is random 1 of 3 in Duel (485.5) and Skirmish (487.5), chosen in Match (486.5). 103.4.c and Tournament Rules 402.1 forbid bringing two copies.
Prerequisites
- 810.1.c.3 IS WHY KAYN'S OWN KEYWORD DOES NOT FEED HIM: 'It does not give additional abilities or activations of Movement, only new options for the Standard Move.' [Ganking] widens WHERE the Standard Move can go (battlefield to battlefield), it does not grant a second one. So the second move has to come from somewhere else, and this is the fact #58 established being spent on the card that was printed to reward it.
- THE STANDARD MOVE IS ONE EXHAUST AND NOTHING ELSE. 144.2: 'Exhausting the Unit is the Cost for this action.' 420.3.a puts that exhaust ONLY on the Standard Move — a move by effect has no such cost and no such restriction — and 144.4 governs destinations. So the cheapest pair is: Standard-Move Kayn (his own exhaust), then Ride the Wind moves him again AND readies him, which puts the exhaust straight back.
- BOTH ARE MOVES BY RULE. 446.1: 'A Permanent changing its position from any space on the Board to another space on the Board is a Move…', and 456 / 456.1 carve out only Recalls ('They do not cause Triggered Abilities to trigger that are triggered by Move actions'). Ride the Wind is neither a Recall nor an attached permanent following its host, so Kayn's counter reads two.
- WHAT THE SECOND MOVE BUYS, EXACTLY. 'If I have moved twice this turn, I don't take damage.' It is not [Deflect] and it is not a Shield: nothing stops him being chosen, and nothing stops the opponent's units contributing Might — 465.2.c still has each player assign damage equal to their summed Might. What it means is that the damage assigned to Kayn does nothing, so a 6 (or 7) Might body wins its combat and comes out whole. It lasts the turn, and next turn he has to move twice again.
- ARITHMETIC WITH THE QUANTITIES DECLARED, AND THE BAR PAYS ONCE PER DEPARTURE. 'When a unit moves from here' — the Bar pays on leaving, not on arriving. Standard-Move Kayn out of the Bar: +1 Might, so 7. Ride the Wind then moves him from a different battlefield, which is not 'here', so it pays nothing: 7 Might, ready, immune to damage, for 2 Energy and 1 Power on top of his 6 Energy and 1 Power. To collect twice he would have to return to the Bar first, which costs the second move he needs.
- THE CEILING IS THREE RIDE THE WINDS. 103.2.b caps the spell at 3 and each is consumed; without one, [Ganking] alone never gives Kayn his second move (810.1.c.3), so the immunity is off.
- OVERLAP DECLARED. OGN-173 Ride the Wind already runs in yasuo-windrider-ride-the-wind-chain and vi-ride-the-wind-double-conquer, where the ready is spent on a second Conquer. Here it is spent on a second MOVE by the same body, which is a different payoff on the same three copies — in one deck they compete for them.
Steps
- Bring Back-Alley Bar as one of your three battlefields and take control of it; 485.5 makes it 1 of your 3 at random in a Duel.
- Play Kayn, Unleashed (6 Energy + 1 Power). 143.4 makes him enter exhausted; the next Awakening Phase readies him (415.3.a).
- Standard-Move him out of Back-Alley Bar, paying only his own exhaust (144.2). The Bar gives him +1 Might this turn: he is a 7.
- Play Ride the Wind (2 Energy + 1 Power): move him again and ready him. That is his second move of the turn (446.1), and the exhaust from the first is back.
- 'If I have moved twice this turn, I don't take damage' is now on. He fights at 7 Might and the damage assigned to him does nothing.
- The counter resets each turn, so the immunity costs a Ride the Wind every turn you want it.
Per iteration
a 7 Might body that takes no damage for the turn and is left ready, for 2 Energy and 1 Power on top of his own cost
How it ends
engine only — three Ride the Winds, each consumed, and the 'moved twice this turn' counter resets every turn; [Ganking] never supplies the second move

REFUTE = a refutation pass, with its date and verdict · WOUNDED = the pass found a flaw and the entry was rewritten · BUDGETED = the pass checked the recycle-and-draw ledger · lens = the hunt that proposed it.
HAND-WALKED 2026-09-06 (docs/phase0/walks/2026-09-06-issue89-tournament-corpus.md), issue #89's second extra candidate (91 registered lists, Ride the Wind in 100 % of them). OGN-189 Kayn, Unleashed and OGN-277 Back-Alley Bar appeared in NO entry before this; OGN-173 Ride the Wind is in two and the overlap is declared. THE WALK'S ADDITIONS over the hunt: the hunt called the pair 'an explicit payoff for the second movement' without noticing that Kayn's own [Ganking] cannot BE that second movement (810.1.c.3), so the entry is really Kayn plus a mover and the mover is what it costs; and the Bar pays on 'moves FROM here', so it pays once, not twice — the hunt's implied +2 is a +1. It also states what the immunity is not: it is not [Deflect] and not a Shield, and 465.2.c still assigns the damage, it just does nothing. Card text verbatim from data/corpus_flat.txt. Ban check: none of the three carries a [BANNED marker — OGN-277 Back-Alley Bar is not on the ban list, unlike five other Origins battlefields. Trap check: no attack designation is claimed (the immunity works on defence too); no [Repeat]; no [Temporary]; no token; a move by effect is not a Recall (456.1); no Gold; the battlefield dependency is stated in the first notable with the 485.4.a formula. Depends on no unruled reading.
