'When I conquer or hold' is two triggers, and Lunar Boon is what puts the unit in the trash for them
Pieces
- Last Rites ×1
SFD-150 · engine · chaos
[Equip] — 1 Chaos Power, Recycle 2 cards from your trash (Pay the cost: Attach this to a unit you control.)
When I conquer or hold, you may play a unit from your trash. (You still pay its costs.)
- Lunar Boon ×3
UNL-125 · enabler · chaos
[Reaction] (Play any time, even before spells and abilities resolve.) Discard 1, then draw 2.
- Scryer's Bloom ×1
UNL-136 · enabler · chaos
This enters exhausted. Kill this, 1 Energy, Exhaust: [Predict 2], then draw 1. Gain 1 XP. (To Predict 2, look at the top two cards of your Main Deck. Recycle any of them and put the rest back in any order.)
Payoff
Deck
- Every card here is mono-Chaos, so any Chaos legend runs the whole line — eleven Chaos/Mind legends alone.
- Last Rites has to be attached to a unit that will conquer or hold, so the line needs a body at a battlefield.
Prerequisites
- 'WHEN I CONQUER OR HOLD' IS BOTH CATEGORIES, BY THE RULES' OWN WORDING. 383.4.c.1 on Conquer Effects: 'These are commonly structured as “When I conquer…” and “When you conquer…”'. 383.4.d.1 on Hold Effects: 'These are commonly structured as “When I hold…” or “When you hold…”'. A card that prints both clauses in one sentence is therefore a trigger of each kind, so Last Rites has TWO windows in a turn: the Conquer when the battlefield is taken, and the Hold at the Scoring Step of the Beginning Phase (315.2.b.2). This is the same reading #45 used for Reckoner's Arena, applied to a card whose text is not [Hunt] — 823.1.b is the [Hunt] rule and is not the authority here.
- '(You still pay its costs.)' IS PRINTED, SO THIS IS A ROUTE, NOT A DISCOUNT. Compare OGN-006 Flame Chompers, which plays itself out of the trash for one Fury Power and prints no such clause. What Last Rites buys is access to the trash twice a turn, at full price.
- THE [Equip] COST NEEDS TWO REAL CARDS IN THE TRASH, AND A TOKEN IS NEVER ONE. 416.1 defines Recycling over 'one or more CARDS'; 185 says 'Tokens are not cards'; and 186.1 makes a token cease to exist the moment it enters any Non-Board Zone, so no token ever REMAINS in a trash to be chosen. 416.3 requires a cost Recycle to be completable, so the attach is simply illegal with fewer than two cards in the trash. Lunar Boon is what guarantees them.
- RECYCLING IS NOT A LOSS, AND IT IS NOT BURN OUT. 416.1 puts the two cards on the BOTTOM of the Main Deck. 431.1 defines Burning Out as what happens when a player 'attempt[s] to move one or more cards from their Main Deck to any other zone in excess of the number of cards remaining in their Main Deck' — the opposite direction. The cost is tempo, not cards.
- ARITHMETIC WITH THE QUANTITIES DECLARED, AS A LEDGER OF THE TRASH. Per Lunar Boon: 3 Energy, one card into the trash, two cards into hand — net +1 card and +1 trash. Per attach: 1 Chaos Power and 2 cards out of the trash. Per conquer or hold: one unit out of the trash, at its printed cost. So the trash gains 1 per Lunar Boon and loses 2 per attach and 1 per window; three Lunar Boons cover one attach and one window, and after that the line runs on whatever combat and Scryer's Bloom put there.
- SCRYER'S BLOOM IS THE SECOND FILL AND ITS OWN COST IS A CARD. 'Kill this, [E1], [exhaust]: [Predict 2], then draw 1' — the Predict recycles what it rejects (bottom of the deck), the draw is a card, and the killed gear is itself a card in the trash. 'This enters exhausted' is printed, so the first activation waits for the next Awakening Phase (415.3.a).
- A NOTE ON THE HOLD HALF. 315.2.b.2 puts the Hold in the Scoring Step of the Beginning Phase, and 383.2.a.1 measures a trigger's condition when the trigger is placed, so the equipped unit has to survive the opponent's whole turn for the Hold window to arrive. The Conquer window has no such wait.
Bodies no card supplies
Play Lunar Boon at Reaction speed for 3 Energy: discard a unit you want back, draw 2
Steps
- Play Lunar Boon at Reaction speed for 3 Energy: discard a unit you want back, draw 2. The trash now holds it.
- Play Last Rites (3 Energy) and attach it for its [Equip] cost: 1 Chaos Power and Recycle 2 cards from your trash (416.1 sends them to the bottom of the Main Deck).
- The equipped unit gets +2 Might and carries the [Effect].
- Conquer a battlefield with it: 'When I conquer' fires, and you may play a unit from your trash, paying its costs.
- Hold that battlefield into your next Beginning Phase: the same sentence fires again as a Hold Effect (383.4.d.1), for a second unit out of the trash.
- Scryer's Bloom and further Lunar Boons keep the trash stocked; nothing here consumes the Last Rites.
Per iteration
two chances a turn to replay a unit from the trash at its printed cost, plus +1 card and +1 trashed unit per Lunar Boon
How it ends
engine only — the two windows repeat for as long as the equipped unit conquers and holds, but every unit replayed costs full price, so the line is bounded by Energy and by what is in the trash

How this entry was audited
REFUTE = a refutation pass, with its date and verdict · WOUNDED = the pass found a flaw and the entry was rewritten · BUDGETED = the pass checked the recycle-and-draw ledger · lens = the hunt that proposed it.
HAND-WALKED 2026-09-06 (docs/phase0/walks/2026-09-06-issue89-tournament-corpus.md), issue #89 candidate 8 (61 registered lists, 48 of them from riftbound.gg). All three cards appeared in NO entry before this. THE WALK'S ADDITIONS over the hunt: the hunt cited 823.1.b alongside 383.4.c.1/383.4.d.1, and 823.1.b is the [Hunt] rule — it says the right thing about the wrong card, so this entry stands on the two wording rules alone; and the [Equip] cost is checked against 185 / 186.1 / 416.1 / 416.3, which makes 'Recycle 2 cards from your trash' impossible to pay with tokens and impossible to pay at all with fewer than two cards there, a gate the hunt did not price. Card text verbatim from data/corpus_flat.txt. Citations opened: 185, 186.1, 315.2.b.2, 383.2.a.1, 383.4.c.1, 383.4.d.1, 415.3.a, 416.1, 416.3, 431.1. Ban check: none of the three carries a [BANNED marker. Trap check: the Hold half is measured at 383.2.a.1's instant and the entry says the body must survive the opponent's turn; no attack designation; no [Repeat]; no [Temporary]; no token is ever recycled; no recall; no Gold; no battlefield of its own. Depends on no unruled reading.
