Combo · ENGINE
755 ignores every cost a re-aim incurs, so a stolen spell walks past [Deflect] for free - and 753.1 is why it still cannot touch a "can't be chosen" body
Pieces
- Mystic Reversal ×3
OGN-080 · payoff · calm
[Reaction] (Play any time, even before spells and abilities resolve.) Gain control of a spell. You may make new choices for it.
- Charm ×3
OGN-043 · engine · calm
Move an enemy unit.
Payoff
Deck
- Both spells are mono-Calm, so 103.1.b.3 admits them under any legend with Calm among its two domains - measured over data/cards.json those include OGN-257 / OGN-304 Blind Monk (calm/body), OGN-261 / OGN-306 Radiant Dawn (calm/order), SFD-197 / SFD-247 Emperor of the Sands (calm/order), UNL-195 / UNL-233 Green Father (calm/order), VEN-139 / VEN-189 Rogue Assassin (calm/fury) and VEN-147 / VEN-193 Eye of Twilight (calm/order).
- Neither is a Signature card (checked against data/cards.json), so 103.2.d.2 imposes no legend, and neither is banned or restricted in either format.
- Mystic Reversal is [Reaction] and costs 4 Energy + 3 Power, which has to be live on the turn you use it: 415.3.a readies runes only in your own Awakening, so the Energy must come from runes deliberately held, while 164.2.b (no exhaust in its cost) still pays Power off already-tapped runes.
Prerequisites
- THE FINDING, AND IT IS THE OPPOSITE OF THE OBVIOUS READING. 755: 'Any costs “to play” the spell or ability that are incurred as a result of new choices made in this way are ignored', with 755.1 spelling out why - 'The spell or ability is already played and its costs paid.' So re-aiming a spell at a [Deflect] body costs NOTHING. 809.1.c prices Deflect as an additional cost 'to play' charged for each time an opponent chooses the unit; a new choice made under 750-755 is not a play, so the tax never lands. Rules 750 through 755 are cited by no entry and no synergy rule in this project.
- BUT A PROHIBITION IS NOT A TAX, AND 753.1 IS WHERE THEY SEPARATE. 753.1: 'A player may not make new choices this way that would be illegal or that would lead to an illegal state, even if there are no other options.' SFD-105 Ruin Runner's "I can't be chosen by enemy spells and abilities" is absolute under 054.1, so re-aiming at it is an illegal choice and 753.1 forbids it outright. This is the [Deflect]-tax versus can't-be-chosen-prohibition split, met from a third direction: 755 erases the tax and leaves the prohibition standing.
- WHAT MAY BE REMADE IS A CLOSED LIST. 752.1: 'The relevant choices that can be remade for these Game Effects are locations to be played to, modes, destinations, and targets.' Charm has two of the four in one Energy. And 752.2 closes the door on the rest: 'This does not refer to any choices made “as you play this” or “as I am played,” or any choices made for Optional Additional Costs' - so a [Repeat] cost's choices, an [Empower] payment and every 'as you play this' rider are frozen. 751.1 also requires the new choice to be one 'that were previously not being chosen', so something must actually change.
- THE REAL PURCHASE IS ORDER, NOT COST. Mystic Reversal is [Reaction] (813.1.c.1), so the sequence is: cast Charm at a safe target, let the opponent commit their answer, then take Charm back and re-aim it knowing what they held. That converts a Main-Phase spell into one whose target is chosen after their response - and 754 keeps it honest: 'If, as a result of new choices, the spell or ability targets a Game Object it previously did not target, any Targeting Effects of that Game Object will trigger as appropriate at that time', so a Targeting Effect on the new victim still fires.
- AND THE EVACUATION IS WHY CHARM IS THE PARTNER. 449 has spells cause Moves; pulling an opponent's last body off a battlefield they control makes 323.6 strip that Control at the next Cleanup - 'Players lose control of any controlled Battlefields without their Units occupying them if the turn is in an Open State and there is no Showdown or Combat ongoing there' - and a body of yours walking in during your Main Phase (144.4.a) then Contests it (450), opens a Showdown (323.8 / 323.12) and Conquers under 348.2.a / 348.2.a.1. The catalogue already walks that chain in charm-evacuate-conquer; what this entry adds is that the Deflect tax on the evacuation can be dodged entirely.
- IT WORKS ON THEIR SPELLS TOO, AND THAT IS THE BIGGER USE. 'Gain control of a spell' names no controller, and 191.1 / 191.2 make the player who now controls it the one who plays it; 056 / 056.2 send the card to its OWNER's trash afterwards, so you do not keep it. Their removal, re-aimed at their own best body, past its Deflect, for free. It is not in uses[] because it depends on their deck, and this entry prices only the half you can build.
- THE PRICE IS REAL AND THE ENTRY DOES NOT HIDE IT. 4 Energy and 3 Power to re-aim a 1 Energy spell is a bad exchange on its own; what you are buying is the timing (after their answer) and the Deflect immunity, and it is worth it only against a garrison that is actually taxed. Three copies each (103.2.b).
Steps
- Hold OGN-080 Mystic Reversal (4 Energy + 3 Power) at [Reaction] speed; 164.2.b pays the Power off runes already tapped for Energy, but the 4 Energy needs runes held ready through your own turn (415.3.a).
- Play OGN-043 Charm (1 Energy + 1 Power) choosing an enemy unit that carries no [Deflect] - a cheap, untaxed choice - and a destination.
- Let the opponent respond. Whatever they commit is now known.
- Play Mystic Reversal in reaction: gain control of your own Charm and make new choices for it (750, 751.1 - at least one choice must change).
- Re-aim it at the [Deflect] body you actually wanted. 755 ignores the extra rainbow 809.1.c would have charged, because the spell 'is already played and its costs paid' (755.1). 754 still fires any Targeting Effect on the new victim.
- Choose the new destination too - 752.1 allows destinations as well as targets - pulling the opponent's last body off a battlefield they control.
- At the next Cleanup 323.6 strips their Control. Walk a body in during your Main Phase (144.4.a), Contested applies (450), a Showdown opens (323.8 / 323.12) and 348.2.a / 348.2.a.1 give you the Conquer.
- Never re-aim at a body printing "can't be chosen": 753.1 makes that an illegal new choice even when there is no other option.
Per iteration
one evacuation re-aimed after the opponent's answer, with the [Deflect] tax on the new target reduced to zero
How it ends
engine only - the Conquer it enables is capped by 470 at one Score per battlefield per turn and by 485.4 at two battlefields in a Duel; three copies of each spell (103.2.b) and nothing here loops

HAND-WALKED 2026-09-07 (issue #187, uncited-rules-blocks slice: 750-755 Making New Choices). Rules 750 through 755 are cited by no entry and no synergy rule in this project, and OGN-080 Mystic Reversal was in ZERO entries. The pool has exactly TWO cards with the 'make new choices' clause, swept on the corpus: OGN-080 Mystic Reversal (Calm, unconditional) and VEN-152 Rebuttal (Mind/Chaos, Signature, tagged Mel, charges a rainbow for the same clause). Card text verbatim from data/corpus_flat.txt. Citations opened: 054.1, 056, 056.2, 103.1.b.3, 103.2.b, 103.2.d.2, 144.4.a, 164.2.b, 191.1, 191.2, 323.6, 323.8, 323.12, 348.2.a, 348.2.a.1, 415.3.a, 449, 450, 470, 485.4, 751.1, 752.1, 752.2, 753.1, 754, 755, 755.1, 809.1.c, 813.1.c.1. And 752.2 freezes 'as you play this' choices and Optional Additional Costs, so a [Repeat] or an [Empower] payment can never be remade. Distinct from charm-evacuate-conquer and charm-nasus-evacuation-conquer, neither of which uses Mystic Reversal or cites 750-755. Trap check: 751.1 requires at least one changed choice; the Energy must be banked because 415.3.a refunds exhausts only at your own Awaken; the entry states plainly that 4 Energy + 3 Power to re-aim a 1 Energy spell buys timing and Deflect immunity, not value; no unruled reading.
