477.3.b snapshots a floored reduction at the size of the body you aim it at - so shrink AFTER their pump, never before
Pieces
- Smoke Screen ×3
OGN-093 · payoff · mind
[Reaction] (Play any time, even before spells and abilities resolve.) Give a unit -4 Might this turn, to a minimum of 1 Might.
- Orb of Regret ×3
OGN-090 · engine · mind
Exhaust: Give a unit -1 Might this turn, to a minimum of 1 Might.
Payoff
Deck
- Both cards are mono-Mind, so 103.1.b.3 admits any legend with Mind in its pair.
- Neither card is banned or restricted in either format, and neither is a Signature card.
- A target worth shrinking. Both reductions are floored at 1, so neither can kill on its own.
Prerequisites
- THE SNAPSHOT IS THE ENTRY, AND RIOT'S EXAMPLE IS THIS EXACT WORDING. 477.3.b: 'When an arithmetic effect from a source that is not a passive ability has a limitation that applies, it is limited at the time of its application, and is "remembered" at that limited level for the duration of its effect. This process is called "snapshotting." Example: If an effect gives a unit "-4 [M] to a min of 1 this turn" choosing a unit with 2 [M], then the effect will generate -1 [M] this turn.' So Smoke Screen aimed at a 2 Might body generates -1 and STAYS -1 for the turn even if that body is later pumped to 10. Aim a floored reduction at the biggest version of the target, which means after their pumps, not before - and [Reaction] is exactly the permission that lets you (813.1.c.1).
- AND THE ORDER OF OPERATIONS IS FIXED THE OTHER WAY. 477.3.e.2.a: 'Negative values, or decreases, to Might are applied last.' So within one evaluation every increase lands first and your reduction is measured against the pumped number - which is the same conclusion from the other direction, and it is why a floored reducer is never worse for waiting.
- FLOORED AND UNFLOORED ARE DIFFERENT CARDS, AND THE POOL SPLITS BY SET. The nine Origins reductions carry a 'to a minimum of 1' floor and the fourteen from Spiritforged, Unleashed and Vendetta do not. Both cards here are Origins and both are floored, so neither can kill: 143.2.a needs marked damage at or above Might and a body at 1 Might still needs 1 damage. What they do is move a target under somebody else's threshold.
- WHICH IS WHERE THE VALUE IS, AND IT IS TWO DIFFERENT THRESHOLDS. A Might gate - 'kill an enemy unit with 3 :rb_might: or less' and its siblings - becomes reachable; and 465.2.c.4 caps combat assignment at 'the minimum required to constitute lethal damage', so a shrunk defender costs less of your attacking Might and the remainder is excess damage. Shrinking the defender is the cheaper of the two levers on excess: a buff is fixed at +1 by 703, and Smoke Screen is -4 for 2 Energy and a Power.
- THE FLOORS DO NOT STACK INTO SOMETHING WORSE. Each reduction is snapshotted separately at its own moment of application, so an Orb (-1) followed by a Smoke Screen (-4) on a 10 Might body is 10 - 1 - 4 = 5, and the same pair on a 3 Might body is 3 - 1 = 2 and then -1 more (snapshotted, since 2 - 4 would breach the floor) = 1. Read the floor as capping the REDUCTION, never the result.
- AND THE GEAR IS THE REPEATABLE HALF. The Orb's cost is an exhaust and nothing else, and 415.3.a readies all non-spell Game Objects you control in your own Awakening Phase, so it is -1 Might every turn for one Energy paid once. 143.4 exhausts units and not gear, so it is live the turn it lands.
- WHAT IT IS NOT. Nothing here scores; 469 defines Scoring as Conquer or Hold. And 143.2.b is why a reduction is not damage: negative Might READS as 0 for spells, abilities and combat damage but IS NOT 0, so nothing here generates a kill event.
Steps
- Play Orb of Regret (1 Energy) early. Its cost is an exhaust, so from your next Awakening (415.3.a) it is -1 Might every turn for free.
- Hold Smoke Screen. Its [Reaction] permission (813.1.c.1) lets you cast it after the opponent has finished pumping.
- Aim it at the body at its LARGEST: 477.3.b snapshots the reduction at the moment of application, so -4 on a 2 Might body is worth -1 forever this turn.
- 477.3.e.2.a applies decreases last within an evaluation, so a pump that resolves after yours does not undo it.
- Use the smaller number for what it unlocks - a Might-gated kill, or a cheaper combat assignment under 465.2.c.4 - because neither card can kill on its own.
Per iteration
-1 Might every turn from the gear and -4 once per Smoke Screen, both floored at 1 and both aimed after the opponent has committed
How it ends
engine only - one repeatable point of reduction a turn plus three Smoke Screens by 103.2.b; both are floored so neither kills, and nothing here scores

HAND-WALKED 2026-09-07 (issue #188). The first entry to use OGN-090 Orb of Regret or OGN-093 Smoke Screen. Card text verbatim from data/corpus_flat.txt. Citations opened and quoted: 103.1.b.3, 103.2.b, 143.2.a, 143.2.b, 143.4, 415.3.a, 465.2.c.4, 469, 477.3.b, 477.3.e.2.a, 703, 813.1.c.1. 477.3.b's own worked example is a '-4 to a min of 1' effect, i.e. this exact card, and the consequence it states - the reduction is remembered at the limited level for the duration - is the play instruction the entry is built on. Ban check: neither card is banned or restricted; neither is a Signature card. No unruled reading.
