Riot's own worked example for 807.2 — Petty Officer prints [Assault], Cleave grants [Assault 3], and the values sum to 4
Pieces
- Petty Officer ×3
OGN-215 · payoff · order
[Assault] (+1 Might while I'm an attacker.)
- Cleave ×3
OGN-004 · enabler · fury
[Action] (Play on your turn or in showdowns.) Give a unit [Assault 3] this turn. (+3 Might while it's an attacker.)
Payoff
Deck
- Petty Officer is mono-Order and Cleave is mono-Fury, so 103.1.b.2 fixes the identity at exactly Fury/Order: OGN-253/OGN-302 Hand of Noxus, UNL-187/UNL-229 Piltover Enforcer, SFD-187/SFD-243 Void Burrower.
Prerequisites
- THIS IS RIOT'S OWN WORKED EXAMPLE, WHICH IS THE STRONGEST CITATION SHAPE THIS PROJECT RECOGNISES. 807.2: 'If a Unit has Assault or has been granted Assault and is granted Assault by an additional source, the Assault Value of all granted Assault keywords is summed. Example: Petty Officer has Assault. It is chosen as the target of Cleave, which says "Give a unit [Assault 3] this turn." After Cleave resolves, Petty Officer has Assault 4 this turn.' The interaction is ruled on the card, not inferred.
- SO HE ATTACKS AT MIGHT 9 FOR ONE ENERGY. 807.1.c reads Assault as '+X Might while I am an attacker' and 465.2.c sums each side's Might at the damage assignment: M5 + 4 = 9, for E1 on the turn it matters.
- IT NEEDS A REAL COMBAT. 807.1.d — 'Being an attacker means the Unit has gained the Attacker designation during Combat' — which 464.2.c.3 grants only inside a Combat that 323.9 staged, and 323.9 stages one only where units of opposing players are present. Walking onto an empty battlefield is not an attack and the whole 4 is worth nothing there.
- CLEAVE CHOOSES, SO IT PAYS THE DEFLECT TAX IF AIMED AT AN ENEMY — but it is aimed at your own body here, and 809.1.c charges only for choosing what an OPPONENT controls, so nothing is added.
- IT IS ONE TURN, NOT A BOARD STATE: 'this turn' expires, and 807.2 sums GRANTED instances, so three Cleaves on one body in one turn is Assault 10 while it lasts and Assault 1 the moment the turn ends. Three copies (103.2.b) is the cap either way.
- THE SAME SUMMING RULE IS WHY SFD-183 PURIFIER'S 'your Equipment each give [Assault]' stacks per Equipment — the two entries are the granted-source and the per-card readings of one paragraph, and neither is a duplicate of the other.
Steps
- Play Petty Officer (E5). His [Assault] is printed and worth 1 (807.1.b.3).
- Move him to a garrisoned battlefield. 190.3.a.1 applies Contested, 323.9 stages the Combat and 464.2.c.3 gives him the Attacker designation.
- Inside the combat, play Cleave (E1) as an [Action] (806.1.b) choosing him: he is granted [Assault 3] this turn.
- 807.2 sums the granted value with what he already has — Riot's example ends 'Petty Officer has Assault 4 this turn' — and 807.1.c reads that as +4 Might while he is the attacker.
- 465.2.c sums him at Might 9 for the damage assignment; 465.2.c.3 forces lethal onto one defender at a time and 465.2.c.4 caps each at the minimum needed.
How it ends
engine only — +4 attacking Might for one Energy, on the turn it is spent; three Cleaves (103.2.b) and nothing here scores

How this entry was audited
REFUTE = a refutation pass, with its date and verdict · WOUNDED = the pass found a flaw and the entry was rewritten · BUDGETED = the pass checked the recycle-and-draw ledger · lens = the hunt that proposed it.
HAND-WALKED 2026-09-07, issue #180 — the first entry to use OGN-215 or OGN-004, and the pair Riot names in 807.2's own example. Card text verbatim from data/corpus_flat.txt. It is a small effect and is written as one: +4 attacking Might for one Energy, for one turn. It is catalogued because the citation is a printed ruling on these two cards and because it is the granted-source reading of the same paragraph that purifier-veteran-poro-blade-stack reads per-Equipment — the two are cross-referenced so neither is mistaken for the other. Trap check: 807.1.d is cited so the Assault is never claimed on an empty battlefield (807.1.d / 383.4.e / 461); 'this turn' is stated as an expiry; 809.1.c is checked and found not to apply because the choice is your own body.
