Combo · ENGINE
One Poro read three times — a cantrip, a Deathknell and a body at a battlefield with no walk
Pieces
- Lonely Poro ×3
SFD-036 · engine · calm
[Deathknell] — If I died alone, draw 1. (When I die, get the effect. I'm alone if there are no other friendly units here.)
- Poro Herder ×1
OGN-061 · payoff · calm
When you play me, if you control a Poro, buff me and draw 1. (If I don't have a buff, I get a +1 Might buff.)
- Stalking Wolf ×1
UNL-166 · payoff · order
[Ambush] (You may play me as a [Reaction] to a battlefield where you have units.) As an additional cost to play me, kill a Bird, Cat, Dog, or Poro you control. You may [Ambush] me to its battlefield, even if you don't have other units there.
Payoff
Deck
- Calm + Order: OGN-261 Radiant Dawn, UNL-195 Green Father, VEN-147 Eye of Twilight and SFD-247 Emperor of the Sands all hold it (103.1.b.2).
- One Poro on the board, standing ALONE at a battlefield if you want the Deathknell half.
Prerequisites
- Three payoffs off one E2 body, and the entry states each with its own condition. Poro Herder reads 'if you control a Poro' — anywhere. Lonely Poro's Deathknell needs it to have died ALONE, and its own reminder text defines that as 'no other friendly units here', an own-side measurement (#116). Stalking Wolf needs it dead as an additional cost.
- 822.1.b is what makes the Wolf's last clause matter: [Ambush] is normally 'I may be played to a battlefield where you control Units', and the Wolf's own text overrides that for the battlefield of the body it just ate. So an M6 arrives at a battlefield where you have NOTHING — no Standard Move, no exhaust, no turn of telegraph. That is a genuine answer to #48's walk-to-the-battlefield bottleneck for a CARD rather than a token.
- The costs are paid before the unit enters (203.3 and the play steps), so the Poro is already dead when the Wolf arrives. Its Deathknell draws if it was alone; the Wolf is not 'here' yet at the moment it dies, so it does not spoil the alone test.
- 822.1.b also gives the Wolf [Reaction] while it is being played to a battlefield where you control units — which is NOT the case on the override line, since the point of the override is that you control nothing there. Played to its dead Poro's battlefield the Wolf is a Main Phase play, not a combat trick. The entry does not claim otherwise.
- The Poro is a CARD, not a token: 185 and 416.3 would refuse a token as the kill cost of a 'kill a Bird, Cat, Dog, or Poro you control'... except they would not, because 185.2.d makes a token unit a unit and killing is not recycling. The reason the entry uses a card anyway is the Deathknell — a token has none, and 186.1 means it never reaches the trash.
- Three copies each (103.2.b) and no recursion in this identity, so this is three Wolves a game. starhound-undying-loyalty-four-tag-recursion is the line that puts the Poros back.
Steps
- Play a Lonely Poro (E2) and walk it to a battlefield where it stands alone.
- Play Poro Herder (E3 + 1 Power). Her trigger sees a Poro you control, buffs her and draws 1.
- Later, play Stalking Wolf (E4 + 1 Power). Pay the additional cost by killing the Lonely Poro.
- The Poro's [Deathknell] sees that it died alone and draws 1.
- [Ambush] the Wolf to that Poro's battlefield under its own override — 822.1.b's normal condition ('where you control Units') is exactly what the clause waives. An M6 body arrives with no move and no exhaust.
How it ends
engine only — two cards and an M6 body placed at a battlefield with no walk, per Poro spent, three times a game (103.2.b). Nothing here scores.

HAND-WALKED 2026-09-06 (docs/phase0/walks/2026-09-06-orphan-synergy-rules.md §27), issue #153, from the orphan rule poro-herder-poro-tag. Card text verbatim from data/corpus_flat.txt. Citations opened: 103.1.b.2, 103.2.b, 185, 185.2.d, 186.1, 203.3, 416.3, 822.1, 822.1.a, 822.1.b, 822.1.c. 'Alone' is read per the #116 walk, off the pool's own reminder text on this very card. Trap check: no attack; no [Repeat]; no [Temporary]; the token question is walked rather than assumed — a token unit WOULD pay the kill cost (185.2.d) but has no Deathknell and never reaches the trash (186.1), which is why the entry spends a card; no recall; 167 is not touched. Depends on no unruled reading.
