Profiteer — an Empower moved from the cheapest source to the dearest target
Pieces
- Profiteer ×3
VEN-082 · engine · body
When you play me, you may disempower something you control to empower a legend, unit, or gear.
- Hextech Disc ×1
VEN-087 · resource · body
[Empower] — Exhaust (Pay the cost: Empower this. Use only if not Empowered.) Disempower this, 1 Energy, Exhaust: Play a 3 Might Mech unit token to your base.
- Dame the Despoiler ×1
VEN-079 · payoff · body
[Empower] 5 Energy + 1 Body Power (5 Energy + 1 Body Power: Empower me. Use only if not Empowered.) [Empowered][>] When I attack or defend, choose a unit here. Increase my Might to its Might this turn, then give me +1 Might this turn.
Payoff
Deck
- Everything here is mono-Body (103.1.b.3), so any legend carrying Body runs it.
- The Hextech Disc enters exhausted by its own text, so its Empower is available from the turn after it is played, once 315.1.b has readied it.
Prerequisites
- The saving is exact and it is what the entry is for. Dame the Despoiler's printed [Empower] cost is E5 + 1 Body Power. The Hextech Disc's is one exhaust. Profiteer moves the state across for the price of a body you were going to play anyway, three times a game (103.2.b).
- 441.1.a makes Empowered binary and 441.2 makes it a board state, so what is moved is a real, permanent thing, not a this-turn effect. 441.1.b ('An Empowered Game Object can not be Empowered') is not a problem: Profiteer's own wording disempowers the source first, in the same instruction.
- 827.1.c.3 is NOT the citation for any of this and must not be added later: that paragraph is about discounts on an Empower cost, and nothing here pays one. The relay performs 441.1's act directly.
- What the relay COSTS you is the source's own Empowered payoff. The Hextech Disc's is 'Disempower this, E1, exhaust: Play a 3 Might Mech unit token to your base' — a Mech a turn you are giving up. That is the honest price and the entry states it rather than treating the source as free.
- The relay is not restricted to gear: 'empower a legend, unit, or gear' reaches all three, and the three Vendetta legends that key on Empowered (VEN-151 Soul's Reflection, VEN-153 Matriarch of War, VEN-155 Heart of the Tempest) all read 'When you empower something else, empower me' — so a relay fires them as well as the target.
Steps
- Play the Hextech Disc (E4 + 1 Power). It enters exhausted by its own text.
- Next Awaken (315.1.b) readies it. Exhaust it to pay its own [Empower] cost: the Disc is Empowered for nothing but the exhaust.
- Play Dame the Despoiler (E5) and get her onto a battlefield.
- Play Profiteer (E4). His trigger disempowers the Disc and empowers Dame — the state she would have paid E5 + 1 Body Power for.
- Her [Empowered] half is now live: when she attacks or defends, choose a unit here, raise her Might to match it and add 1. 710 evaluates the copy at the target's CURRENT Might.
- Re-Empower the Disc next turn with its own exhaust and repeat with the second and third Profiteer.
How it ends
engine only — three relays a game, each worth the difference between the source's Empower cost and the target's (here E5 + 1 Body Power), at the price of the source's own Empowered payoff. Nothing here scores.

REFUTE = a refutation pass, with its date and verdict · WOUNDED = the pass found a flaw and the entry was rewritten · BUDGETED = the pass checked the recycle-and-draw ledger · lens = the hunt that proposed it.
HAND-WALKED 2026-09-06 (docs/phase0/walks/2026-09-06-orphan-synergy-rules.md §18), issue #153, from the orphan rule profiteer-empower-relay. Card text verbatim from data/corpus_flat.txt. Citations opened: 103.1.b.3, 103.2.b, 315.1.b, 441.1, 441.1.a, 441.1.b, 441.2, 710. The uniqueness claim was swept over all 935 BASE codes, per walk document §11a. 827.1.c.3 is deliberately excluded, for the same reason as in hextech-formula-rage-amplifier-free-empower. Trap check: no attack of the entry's own and no Attacker designation claimed; no [Repeat]; no [Temporary]; no token is used as a cost, so 185 never arises; no recall; the gear enters exhausted by its own text, not by 143.4, which is a units rule; 167 is not touched.
