369.2 - Burning Out is a Replacement Effect inside one resolution, so its four steps are atomic and the refill lands before the rest of the draw

Deck
- Progress Day is mono-Mind and Shadow Temple is colourless, so 103.1.b.1 is satisfied by any legend carrying Mind. The census run against data/cards.json on 2026-09-12 gives sixteen names; among them Nine-Tailed Fox (OGN-255), Herald of the Arcane (OGN-265), Chem-Baroness (SFD-201), Bashful Bloom (UNL-189) and Curator of the Sands (VEN-145).
- Neither card is Signature (data/cards.json, signature=false on both) and neither appears in data/legality.json in either format - checked 2026-09-12.

Prerequisites
- 369.2 WAS UNCITED AND IT IS WHY A BURN OUT CANNOT BE RESPONDED TO. The rule: 'Some Game Actions are themselves Replacement Effects. Example: Burning Out is a replacement effect. Example: Preventing Damage is a replacement effect.' 431.5 repeats it for the block: 'Burning Out is a Replacement Effect.' A Replacement Effect intercedes DURING the execution of a game effect (369), and 340.1 says of a resolving chain item 'Execute its game effects in their entirety' - so every step of 431.2 happens inside one resolution. In the Draw Phase there is not even a chain: 335 says that outside the Main Phase with no tasks and no pending items you 'proceed to the next substep, step, phase, or turn.' There is no window anywhere in it.
- AND THE ORDER OF 431.2's FOUR STEPS IS THE WHOLE PAYOFF. 431.2: 'To Burn Out, a player does the following in sequence:' - 431.2.a 'Performs as much of the prescribed action as possible', 431.2.b 'Recycles their trash into their Main Deck', 431.2.c 'Chooses an opponent to gain 1 point', 431.2.d 'Completes the remainder of the action that caused them to burn out.' The refill is step b and the remainder of the draw is step d, so Progress Day on an empty deck draws FOUR FRESH CARDS out of the trash you just spent the game filling. 413.4 says the same thing from the Draw side: 413.4.a 'Draw as many as possible', 413.4.b 'Perform a Burn Out', 413.4.c 'Draw the remaining cards needed to complete the Draw action.'
- THE PRICE IS EXACTLY ONE POINT AND IT IS A FOURTH KIND OF POINT. 194.1.d: 'When an opponent Burns Out and picks that player to gain 1 point.' 431.2.c makes the burning-out player choose which opponent, which in a Duel (485.1, two players) is no choice at all. It is a Gain and not a Score, so 470's once-per-battlefield cap and 471.1.b's Final Point clause never see it - in either direction.
- THE BOUND THAT MAKES THIS SAFE, AND THE ONE THAT MAKES THE LOOP LEDGER'S WALL ABSOLUTE. 431.3: 'A player's Main Deck may remain empty as they Burn Out, usually because their trash is also empty. When they attempt to perform the original action again, it will cause another Burn Out.' 431.3.a: 'Unless some effect intervenes, this will result in them burning out repeatedly, giving 1 point to an opponent each time, until an opponent passes the Victory Score and wins the game.' 431.3.b: 'Points gained after the first Burn Out being processed in sequence cannot be replaced or prevented by any means.' So a deliberate Burn Out with a FAT trash is a one-point toll, and the identical action with an EMPTY trash is the game. That is the missing citation under this project's loop ledger, where recycled cards go to the BOTTOM OF THE DECK (416.1) and never to the trash: inside lux-infinite-energy the trash is empty by construction, so the 'zero spare draws' wall is 431.3.a and 431.3.b and not a point you can choose to pay.
- 431.4 AND 431.4.a ARE WHY YOU CANNOT SIMPLY ASK FOR IT. 431.4: 'Burning Out is a Limited Action.' 431.4.a: 'Players may only burn out when Game Effects direct them to do so.' You cannot burn out on purpose; you have to run a card into an empty deck, which is what makes Progress Day the vehicle - it is the largest single Draw instruction in the pool (swept over data/corpus_flat.txt on 2026-09-12: exactly two cards draw three or more, OGN-114 Progress Day at four and SFD-087 Premonition at three).
- 370.2 IS THE CAP AND IT DOES NOT BITE HERE. 'A Replacement Effect can only be applied once to an event, or to any Game Actions or events that replace that event.' One draw instruction that overruns the deck is one event and therefore one Burn Out; 431.3's repetition is a fresh ATTEMPT at the remaining draw, i.e. a new event, which is exactly why the empty-trash case runs away instead of stopping at one.
- THE TEMPLE IS A FUSE ON ITS OWN AND THIS ENTRY IS THE DETONATOR. 431.1.b covers the mill half - 'If a player must put one or more cards from their Main Deck in any other zone, such as the Trash, in excess of the number of cards in their deck they will do so as much as possible, perform this action, and then complete the remaining number required by the instruction' - so an unattended Shadow Temple eventually burns you out on its own schedule, at 315.2.b.2, on a turn you did not choose. Holding Progress Day means the Burn Out happens on YOUR terms, with the trash at its fattest and four cards to show for it. shadow-temple-dr-mundo-balanced-trash answers the same fuse by balancing the two zones; this entry answers it by cashing it.
- THE BATTLEFIELD IS NOT GUARANTEED, WHICH IS THE ENTRY'S REAL SHORTFALL. 485.4.a has each player provide three battlefields and 485.5 says the mode 'randomly selects' which are used, while 103.4.c forbids running two of the same name - so the Temple is a one-in-three proposition per game and the engine may simply never arrive. Progress Day is live without it, just slower: with a normal deck it is six Energy and one Power for four cards and no Burn Out at all.
Bodies no card supplies
Bring Shadow Temple as one of your three battlefields (485.4.a) and establish Control of it - 190.6.d leaves its 'when you hold here' text ignored until you do
Steps
- Bring Shadow Temple as one of your three battlefields (485.4.a) and establish Control of it - 190.6.d leaves its 'when you hold here' text ignored until you do.
- Every Beginning Phase, 315.2.b.2 Holds it and [Burn 3] moves three cards from your Main Deck to your trash. Your deck shrinks by five a turn counting the Draw Phase, and your trash grows by three.
- Hold Progress Day in hand and do not cast it. Let the Main Deck run to zero or near it.
- Cast Progress Day (E6 + 1 Mind Power). 413.4.a draws as many as the deck holds - zero, if it is empty.
- 413.4.b performs the Burn Out. 431.2.b recycles your whole trash into the Main Deck, randomised; 431.2.c gives your opponent 1 point (194.1.d).
- 431.2.d, which is 413.4.c said the other way round, completes the draw: four cards out of the deck that did not exist a moment ago. 340.1 and 335 mean the opponent had no window in any of it.
- The engine restarts: the Temple burns three a turn into a trash that is empty again, and a second Progress Day is a second refill for a second point.
Per iteration
the Main Deck rebuilt from the trash and four cards drawn out of it, in one uninterruptible resolution, for one point
How it ends
engine - one whole-trash refill plus four cards for 6 Energy + 1 Mind Power and exactly 1 point to the opponent (194.1.d), repeatable once per copy of Progress Day. It is only a one-point toll while the trash is non-empty; with an empty trash the same action is 431.3.a and the game
