725.3 is the rule behind "even if it's already attached" — the Weaponmaster keyword may read an Equip ability that 718.2 has made Inactive
Pieces
- Riven, Shattered ×1
VEN-041 · payoff · calm
[Weaponmaster] (When you play me, you may [Equip] one of your Equipment to me for 1 Power of any domain less, even if it's already attached.) When I attack, choose an enemy unit here. Deal 2 to it for each Equipment attached to me.
- Svellsongur ×1
SFD-059 · engine · calm
[Equip] 1 Energy + 1 Calm Power (1 Energy + 1 Calm Power: Attach this to a unit you control.) As this is attached to a unit, copy that unit's text to this Equipment's effect text for as long as this is attached to it.
Payoff
Deck
- Mono-Calm, so any legend carrying Calm holds it (103.1.b.1) — for example Unforgiven (OGN-259), Blade Dancer (SFD-195), Gloomist (UNL-193), Rogue Assassin (VEN-139), Radiant Dawn (OGN-261).
- The Svellsongur already attached to another body when Riven is played — that is the case the keyword's tail exists for.
Prerequisites
- 725.3 IS THE PARAGRAPH THE PROJECT HAS BEEN DERIVING FROM REMINDER TEXT: 'If an Attached card has an Equip ability, the Weaponmaster keyword can reference that Equip ability and any abilities that passively modify that Equip ability.' That is why the keyword's printed tail — 'even if it's already attached' — is legal at all: 718.2 makes an attached card's printed Rules Text Inactive and 721.2 says Inactive abilities 'cannot be activated', so without 725.3 there would be no [Equip] left for the Weaponmaster to reference. It also confirms that a cost-modifier on that Equip still applies.
- AND 722.1 IS THE COMPANION HALF, ALSO UNCITED: 'Cards with Inactive text still have keywords for the sake of Game Effects that want to reference or see if a card has a keyword', with 722.2 adding that 'Game Effects that parse or interpret text to determine target eligibility may still parse Inactive text'. So an attached Equipment is still findable and still countable by everything except its own activations.
- IT RELOCATES ONTO ITSELF AND NOWHERE ELSE, WHICH IS THE LIMIT. The keyword equips 'to ME', so a Weaponmaster is a route for a carrier-DEPENDENT Equipment to change hands only when the Weaponmaster is the body that wants it — `SFD-208 Forge of the Fluft` remains the pool's only free attach that can place such an Equipment on a CHOSEN carrier. These are two different tools and the catalogue should not conflate them.
- THE DISCOUNT DOES NOT COVER THIS ONE, AND THE ENTRY PRICES IT HONESTLY. Svellsongur's [Equip] is 1 Energy AND a Calm rune; 'for one rainbow less' removes the rune and leaves the Energy, so the pull costs 1 Energy. The 29 Equipment whose [Equip] is a single rune are the ones this keyword makes free; the six that also cost Energy are not.
- WHAT THE PULL BUYS IS RIVEN'S OWN CLAUSE: 'Deal 2 to it for each Equipment attached to me' — so every Equipment dragged onto her is +2 damage on every attack, and Svellsongur additionally copies HER text onto its effect text (434.1.c then appends it back to her), which the catalogue's Svellsongur entries price in detail. Here the point is the number of attachments, and the Weaponmaster is how it grows without paying full [Equip] costs.
- AND 719.5 IS THE RISK: 'When a Top-Most Card changes zones from a board zone to a non-board zone, all Attached cards Detach from it, remaining in their current zones.' If Riven dies, every Equipment she accumulated detaches at once — which for a [Temporary] gear such as `SFD-186 Spinning Axe` starts its own clock again (818.1, 816.1.b).
Steps
- Attach Svellsongur to any body in the ordinary way: 1 Energy + 1 Calm Power (818.1).
- Later, play Riven, Shattered (4 Energy + 1 Calm Power). Her [Weaponmaster] trigger fires as she is played.
- 725.3 lets the keyword reference the Svellsongur's [Equip] even though 718.2 has made its printed Rules Text Inactive while attached.
- Pay that [Equip] for one rainbow less — 1 Energy, since the rune half is what the discount removes — and the Svellsongur detaches from its old carrier (434.1.f) and attaches to Riven.
- Attack: 'Deal 2 to an enemy unit here for each Equipment attached to me' now counts it, and Svellsongur copies Riven's own text onto itself for as long as it stays.
Per iteration
one Equipment moved from another body onto Riven for 1 Energy instead of its full [Equip], and +2 damage on each of her attacks
How it ends
engine — +2 damage on every Riven attack per Equipment pulled onto her, at one rainbow less per pull; nothing here scores

REFUTE = a refutation pass, with its date and verdict · WOUNDED = the pass found a flaw and the entry was rewritten · BUDGETED = the pass checked the recycle-and-draw ledger · lens = the hunt that proposed it.
725.3, 722.1, 722.2, 724 and 719.5 were all uncited by data/combos.json and data/synergies.json before this entry. VEN-041 Riven, Shattered appears in one other entry and SFD-059 Svellsongur in three, none of which is the relocation case — this is the first entry to cite the rule that makes [Weaponmaster]'s 'even if it's already attached' function, and it states the limit (onto ITSELF only, so `SFD-208 Forge of the Fluft` remains the only free attach that chooses a carrier). Card text verbatim from data/corpus_flat.txt. No unruled reading.
