Combo · ENGINE
One [Repeat] is exactly one extra execution and it may choose differently — Rocket Barrage is a modal spell that gets both modes for one card
Pieces
- Rocket Barrage ×3
SFD-077 · payoff · mind
[Repeat] 4 Energy + 1 Mind Power (You may pay the additional cost to repeat this spell's effect, and may make different choices.) Choose one — • Deal 4 to a unit in a base. • Kill a gear.
- Marai Spire ×1
SFD-211 · battlefield
While you control this battlefield, friendly [Repeat] costs cost 1 Energy less.
Payoff
Deck
- Rocket Barrage is mono-Mind and Marai Spire is Colorless, so 103.1.b.1 is satisfied by any legend with Mind as one of its two domains. Neither is Signature.
- The battlefield is not guaranteed: 485.4.a has each player provide three and 485.5 randomly selects one, and 103.4.c forbids duplicates of a name — so the Spire arrives one time in three, and the entry's arithmetic is stated both with and without it.

Prerequisites
- [REPEAT] IS EXACTLY ONE EXTRA EXECUTION, NOT AN ENGINE. 820.1.b: 'Repeat is an optional cost that a player may pay to execute the effect of their spells and abilities a second time.' There is no way to pay it twice, so the four [Repeat] spells the catalogue has looked at are all bounded at two executions.
- AND THE SECOND EXECUTION MAY CHOOSE DIFFERENTLY. 820.2.a: 'Choices made for the additional execution do not have to be the same as the choices made for the initial execution.' On a modal spell that is the whole value — one card buys BOTH modes: deal 4 to a unit in a base AND kill a gear, or two different base targets.
- THE ARITHMETIC. Base cost E4 + 1 Mind Power; the [Repeat] is another E4 + 1 Mind Power, which Marai Spire reduces to E3 + 1 Mind. So the full double execution is E7 + 2 Mind Power with the Spire and E8 + 2 without it — and the Spire is worth exactly 1 Energy here, which is the honest number for a battlefield that only arrives a third of the time.
- THE [REPEAT] COST IS SPENT BUT INVISIBLE TO A 'COSTS N' CHECK. 820.1.c.1 makes it 'an Additional Cost to be paid during the steps of playing the spell', so it counts toward every 'if you spent N or more' threshold (166.2, 203.1, 356.4.b); and 206's second worked example — Defy against Rocket Barrage, this very card — says a 'costs N' check IGNORES it. That is the cheapest way in the pool to cross a spend threshold, and the reason a discounted expensive spell fails one that a cheap spell with [Repeat] passes.
- 'A UNIT IN A BASE' IS A ZONE ALMOST NOTHING REACHES. Swept over the corpus, three cards name it: this, `SFD-116 Yone, Blademaster` and `UNL-182 Curtain Call`. That is why the mode is worth running even though 4 damage is modest — it is the answer to a body parked out of reach, including one the opponent has been forced to park there.
- AND THE SPIRE'S CLAUSE HAS TO BE EARNED. 'While you control this battlefield' with 190.1 means a battlefield you brought starts uncontrolled and its text does nothing until you walk a body in and take it (466.5); the discount is not a deckbuilding freebie.
- IT DOES NOT SCORE, AND IT IS MAIN-PHASE ONLY: Rocket Barrage carries neither [Action] nor [Reaction], so 155 — 'A spell can be played during an Open State outside of Showdowns on its controller's turn' — keeps it out of a Showdown.
Bodies no card supplies
Bring Marai Spire as one of your three battlefields and, if it is the one 485.5 selects, take Control of it — 190.1 means its clause is dead until you do
Steps
- Bring Marai Spire as one of your three battlefields and, if it is the one 485.5 selects, take Control of it — 190.1 means its clause is dead until you do.
- In your Main Phase, play Rocket Barrage for E4 + 1 Mind Power and choose the first mode.
- Pay the [Repeat] cost as part of playing the spell (820.1.c.1) — E4 + 1 Mind Power, reduced by 1 Energy while you control the Spire.
- Resolve the first execution: deal 4 to a unit in a base, or kill a gear.
- Resolve the second. 820.2.a lets you choose the other mode, or the same mode against a different target.
- 143.2.a kills any body the 4 damage equals or exceeds; 143.3.b.1 heals the rest at the end of the turn. 820.1.b means there is no third execution to buy.
How it ends
engine only — two executions per casting, both modes available, for E7 + 2 Mind Power with the Spire and E8 + 2 without; three castings a game (103.2.b) and nothing here scores

How this entry was audited
REFUTE = a refutation pass, with its date and verdict · WOUNDED = the pass found a flaw and the entry was rewritten · BUDGETED = the pass checked the recycle-and-draw ledger · lens = the hunt that proposed it.
HAND-WALKED 2026-09-07, issue #170, from `marai-spire-repeat-discount` and the Core-Rules-named sweep; SFD-077 Rocket Barrage was in zero entries and is 206's second worked example. Card text verbatim from data/corpus_flat.txt; the 'in a base' family was swept over the corpus and is three cards. Trap check: [Repeat] is stated as exactly one extra execution (820.1.b) so nothing is claimed as an engine; the Spire's 'While you control this battlefield' is priced against 190.1 as a cost rather than a freebie, and the ledger is given both with and without it; 485.5 and 103.4.c are cited for the battlefield's randomness; 155 keeps the spell out of a Showdown.
