Weaponmaster — a one-rune [Equip] discounted to nothing, and an Equipment pulled off a dying body
Pieces
- Sentinel Adept ×3
SFD-008 · engine · fury
[Weaponmaster] (When you play me, you may [Equip] one of your Equipment to me for 1 Power of any domain less, even if it's already attached.)
- Recurve Bow ×1
SFD-016 · payoff · fury
[Equip] 1 Fury Power (1 Fury Power: Attach this to a unit you control.)
When I attack or defend, deal 2 to an enemy unit here.
- Serrated Dirk ×1
SFD-009 · payoff · fury
[Equip] 1 Fury Power (1 Fury Power: Attach this to a unit you control.)
[Assault 2] (+2 Might while I'm an attacker.)
Payoff
Deck
- All three mono-Fury (103.1.b.3), so any legend carrying Fury runs them.
- An Equipment must already be on the board — Weaponmaster attaches one you control, it does not play one from hand. That is the whole difference from SFD-024 Rell, Magnetic.
Prerequisites
- The arithmetic is the point: every [Equip] cost printed as a single rune is discounted to NOTHING by Weaponmaster's 'one rainbow less'. Both Equipment here print exactly that, so a Sentinel Adept arrives with an Equipment already on him for no extra cost.
- 'Even if it's already attached' is the clause that makes this a RESCUE. 818.1.b attaches the card to a chosen unit when the cost is paid, so a Weaponmaster body pulls an Equipment off a unit that is about to die — or off one that has done its job — for free. Nothing else in Fury moves an attached Equipment without paying its full [Equip] cost.
- It is NOT a play, and that closes a door: 818.1 makes [Equip] an Activated Ability, so no 'When you play this' on the Equipment fires. Rell, Magnetic PLAYS the card and then attaches it, which is why her line reaches play triggers and this one does not — the two are complementary, not variants.
- Once per Sentinel Adept: the trigger is 'When you play me', so three copies is three free attaches a game (103.2.b), not a per-turn engine.
- The Recurve Bow's damage is not a one-off — 'When I attack OR DEFEND' pays on the opponent's turn too, which is why it is the better of the two payoffs on a body that is going to sit in a garrison.
- Sixteen base codes carry [Weaponmaster], eight distinct names once the double printings are collapsed (SFD-116 / SFD-233 Yone, SFD-197 / SFD-247 Emperor of the Sands, SFD-099 / UNL-223 Veteran Poro, VEN-041 / VEN-171 Riven). Counted by base code, per the correction in this walk's §11a. Sentinel Adept is the cheapest at E3 with no Power.
- AN "ATTACK OR DEFEND" TRIGGER FIRES TWICE PER TURN CYCLE, AND THIS ENTRY PRICED IT AT HALF RATE (citation upgrade 2026-09-12, #187/300-499 lane). 383.4.e defines an Attack Trigger as firing when a Unit or PLAYER gains the Attacker designation for the first time during a combat, and 383.4.f is the identical sentence for the Defender - so a card worded *"when I attack or defend"* satisfies BOTH definitions and is an Attack Trigger AND a Defend Trigger, exactly the shape the rules state outright for the other pair at 823.1.b (*"Hunt is both a Conquer and a Hold effect"*). The honest rate is once on your turn attacking and once on theirs defending. Measured across the catalogue on 2026-09-12, SIX entries use an attack-or-defend card and not one cited both paragraphs. Two limits that keep it from running away: 383.4.e.2.a checks the condition ONCE PER COMBAT despite a unit gaining and losing the designation several times in it (383.4.f.2.a is the mirror), so blinking a carrier out of a combat and back re-fires nothing; and the whole attack side is UNIT-keyed - the pool prints ZERO cards worded *"when you attack"* against FOUR on the defend side, three of them battlefields - which is why a battlefield can carry a defend trigger at all and never an attack one.
Steps
- Get an Equipment onto the board — play the Recurve Bow (E2) and attach it to any body for its 1 Fury [Equip] cost, or leave it detached.
- Play Sentinel Adept for E3. His [Weaponmaster] trigger offers to [Equip] one of your Equipment to him for one rainbow less.
- The Bow's [Equip] cost is one Fury rune, so the discount pays all of it: the attach is free, and 434.1.c appends its effect text to the Adept.
- If the Bow was already attached elsewhere, the same activation moves it — 'even if it's already attached' — which is how a dying carrier's Equipment is rescued at no cost.
- From the next combat on, the Adept deals 2 to an enemy unit here whenever he attacks or defends.
How it ends
engine only — three free attaches a game (103.2.b), each worth one rune, plus 2 damage per combat once a Recurve Bow has landed. Nothing here scores.

HAND-WALKED 2026-09-06 (docs/phase0/walks/2026-09-06-orphan-synergy-rules.md §25), issue #153, from the orphan rule weaponmaster-equip-discount. Card text verbatim from data/corpus_flat.txt. Citations opened: 103.1.b.3, 103.2.b, 434.1.c, 818.1, 818.1.a, 818.1.b. The [Weaponmaster] count was swept over all 935 BASE codes and then collapsed by name, per walk document §11a — sixteen base codes, eight distinct names. The SFD-042 Brutalizer refresh was deliberately NOT taken: jax-grandmaster-brutalizer-refresh already runs that pairing off SFD-193 Grandmaster at Arms, which is a per-turn activation, while Weaponmaster is a once-per-body ETB and is strictly worse for that particular payoff. Trap check: the attach is an Activated Ability and not a play, so no play trigger is claimed (818.1); no attack of the entry's own is required for the attach; no [Repeat]; no [Temporary]; no token; no recall; 167 is not touched.
