Shady Spectacles copies Baron Nashor onto a token — the text, not the Might
Pieces
- Shady Spectacles ×1
VEN-137 · engine · order
[Equip] 1 Energy + 1 Order Power (1 Energy + 1 Order Power: Attach this to a unit you control.) As this is attached to a unit, choose another friendly unit. The equipped unit becomes a copy of that unit for as long as this is attached to it.
(I am a copy of the chosen unit.)
- Baron Nashor ×1
UNL-147 · payoff · chaos
As you play me, add the Baron Pit battlefield token to the board if it's not there already. If you do, I enter there. (It has "Units can move here from anywhere.") I can't be chosen by enemy spells and abilities. Other friendly units have +2 Might.
Payoff
Deck
- Legend domains are Order and Chaos, and the pool holds exactly ONE such legend: VEN-155 Heart of the Tempest.
Prerequisites
- MIGHT IS NOT COPIED, AND THAT IS THE WHOLE PRICE OF THE TRICK. 477.1.b.1.a lists the copyable traits as Name, Super Type, Type, Tags, Cost, Domain and Rules Text - Might is not among them. That is R27, retired on 2026-09-04 by finding the rule instead of asking. A Recruit token wearing Shady Spectacles and copying Baron Nashor is a Baron Nashor of 1 Might, not 12. The source says 'this card then gets all of the effects of that card' and does not mention it.
- THE ON-PLAY EFFECT IS NOT COPIED EITHER, and here the source is right: 'As you play me, add the Baron Pit battlefield token' only happens when the card is played, and nothing is being played. No second Baron Pit.
- WHAT YOU DO GET, and it is the measurable output: a second body that cannot be chosen by enemy spells and abilities, and a SECOND anthem - 'Other friendly units have +2 Might' - which stacks with the original's and also gives the original Baron +2.
- PRICE, WITH THE EQUIP COST AND THE POWER COUNTED: 4 Energy for Shady Spectacles plus 1 Energy + 1 Order Power to attach it = 5 Energy + 1 Order Power, against the 10 Energy + 3 Power a second Baron Nashor would cost. Requires the first Baron already in play, which is the real gate.
- Duplicate names are not a problem: 477.1.b.1.b's own worked example ends with 'three units named Honest Broker in play'.
- 725.1 IS THE PARAGRAPH THIS WHOLE LINE STANDS ON, AND IT WAS NOT CITED (upgrade 2026-09-12, #191 batch 24). 718.2 makes an attached card`s printed Rules Text Inactive and 721.2 stops an Inactive ability applying - and the Spectacles` copy instruction sits in its RULES text, so on those two paragraphs alone it would never fire. 725.1 is the carve-out: *"If an Attached card has a Passive or Replacement ability that applies during the process of Attaching or a Triggered ability that triggers off of Attaching, that text exists and can be processed as it Attaches."* This entry was careful and correct about WHICH traits copy (477.1.b.1.a) and silent about why the instruction is Active at all. Measured by splitting each Equipment at its Effect marker, the population of 725.1 is exactly TWO cards: `SFD-059 Svellsongur` and `VEN-137 Shady Spectacles` - and all five entries that already cite 725.1 are Svellsongur ones.
- 483.4 IS THE PARAGRAPH THIS LINE`S CEILING ARGUMENT WAS DERIVED WITHOUT (upgrade 2026-09-12, #187 batch 7). This catalogue cites 485.4 two hundred and seventy-four times and 483.1 through 483.8 ZERO times - and 483 is where those field names are defined. **483.4: *"Battlefield Count: Determines how many Battlefields are in play, contributed by players, during play."*** The Duel`s Count of 2 is a count of battlefields CONTRIBUTED BY PLAYERS, and a battlefield token added by a card is contributed by a CARD, so it is outside the Count by the field`s own definition rather than by an argument from 485.4 read against 485.4.a. 483.4.b is the general statement behind that pair (*"This may involve utilizing less Battlefields than there are players"*), and 483.6 - *"Format: Conditions to win or additional rules added over play"* - is the field 489.3`s Victory Score of 11 instantiates.
Bodies no card supplies
Play Shady Spectacles (4 Energy) and pay its [Equip] (1 Energy + 1 Order Power) to attach it to a cheap body - a Recruit token does
Steps
- Baron Nashor is already on the board.
- Play Shady Spectacles (4 Energy) and pay its [Equip] (1 Energy + 1 Order Power) to attach it to a cheap body - a Recruit token does.
- Choose Baron Nashor. The equipped body becomes a copy of him: his Rules Text, his Name, Cost, Domain, Type and Tags - at its own Might (477.1.b.1.a).
- Two untargetable bodies and two +2 Might anthems, for 5 Energy + 1 Power.
How it ends
engine only — a second copy of a unit's rules text on a cheap body, for as long as the Equipment stays attached

How this entry was audited
REFUTE = a refutation pass, with its date and verdict · WOUNDED = the pass found a flaw and the entry was rewritten · BUDGETED = the pass checked the recycle-and-draw ledger · lens = the hunt that proposed it.
HAND-WALKED 2026-09-06 (docs/phase0/walks/2026-09-06-issue46-mining-walk.md), issue #46 section 3. The entry exists mostly for the correction: the source is right that the on-play effect does not transfer and silent about the thing that decides whether the trick is worth 5 Energy, which is that Might is not a copyable trait (477.1.b.1.a, already settled as R27). It is the counterpart of the Svellsongur family - a Layer 1 Copy effect against a Layer 2 Ability-Altering one - and the two behave differently: Svellsongur composes (2^v instances, settled 2026-09-06 on #45) while a Copy replaces the copyable traits wholesale. Card text verbatim from data/corpus_flat.txt. Depends on no unruled reading.
