The same lever, the other payoff: excess damage turned into damage instead of a point, under the pool's one Mind/Body legend
Pieces
- Sivir, Ambitious ×1
SFD-120 · payoff · body
[Deflect 2] (Opponents must pay 2 Power of any domain to choose me with a spell or Ability.) When I conquer after an attack, if you assigned 5 or more excess damage to enemy units, you may deal that much to an enemy unit.
- Frigid Touch ×3
SFD-066 · enabler · mind
[Reaction] (Play any time, even before spells and abilities resolve.) [Repeat] 2 Energy (You may pay the additional cost to repeat this spell's effect.) Give a unit -2 Might this turn.
Payoff
Deck
- Mind + Body, and that is a ONE-LEGEND identity: VEN-149 / VEN-194 Defender of Tomorrow (Jayce) is the only Mind/Body legend in the pool — computed over the 94 legend base codes in cards.json, not typed. Neither card is Signature, so the constraint comes from the domains alone (103.1.b.2).
- An enemy battlefield with a garrison, since Sivir's trigger reads 'after an attack'.
Prerequisites
- SAME LEVER, DIFFERENT CURRENCY, DIFFERENT LEGEND — WHICH IS WHY IT IS A SEPARATE ENTRY FROM tryndamere-thousand-tailed-watcher-shrink. Tryndamere converts a 5-excess threshold into ONE point and stops there; Sivir converts it into 'that much' damage, so the margin is the payout and there is no cap on it. And the domains send the two lines to opposite ends of the census: Tryndamere's Fury/Mind admits three legend names, Sivir's Mind/Body admits exactly one.
- THE ARITHMETIC, WITH THE QUANTITIES DECLARED. Sivir is M7. Against a lone M4 defender she assigns 4 (465.2.c.4 forbids more) and has 3 excess — below the threshold of 5, so nothing happens. Play one Frigid Touch with its [Repeat] paid: 820.1.b, 'Repeat is an optional cost that a player may pay to execute the effect of their spells and abilities a second time', so 4 Energy is -4 on the same body. 143.2.b treats the result as 0 while 143.2.b.1 insists 'Although the unit's Might is treated as 0, it is not 0', and 143.2.a still needs nonzero damage, so the bill is exactly 1. Sivir assigns 1, keeps 6 excess, and deals 6 to an enemy unit anywhere — enough to kill almost anything in the pool.
- UNFLOORED IS THE WHOLE REASON THIS IS FRIGID TOUCH AND NOT A REDUCER WITH A FLOOR. 477.3.b snapshots a floored reduction at the level it is limited to, so a '-3, minimum 1' effect caps the saving at (Might - 1). Frigid Touch carries no floor, so the second execution is not wasted on a body already at 1 or 2 — it simply pushes the Might negative, which 143.2.b reads as 0 for both the damage assignment and the defender's own summed Might.
- IT IS A [Reaction], SO IT LANDS INSIDE THE COMBAT. 813.1.c.1 admits a [Reaction] card in a Closed State on any player's turn, and 312.2.c hands out priority there; the only requirement is that it resolve before 465.2 assigns damage. That is what lets you see the garrison before paying, instead of guessing in the Main Phase — the opposite of the Watcher, whose reduction is a play trigger and must be committed first.
- THE DEFENDER'S SWING COLLAPSES TOO. 465.2.c reads current Might for BOTH sides, so a body shrunk to a treated-0 contributes 0 to the defender's summed Might. Sivir takes nothing back, and her printed [Deflect 2] (opponents must pay two rainbow to choose her with a spell or ability) is what keeps a removal spell off her before the fight. CHECKED 2026-10-26 (#472, the follow-up PR #471 listed for #464): holds at every garrison with no damage marked, not only the declared one, and it is why survival never binds here. 383.4.c.2.a: 'The Conquer Abilities of Units are put on the Chain as Pending Items after the Unit(s) these effects correspond to are present at a Battlefield when a player gains control of it and gains 1 Victory Point from Conquering.' 365.1: 'Passive Abilities of Permanents are typically only active while on the Board.' The defender picks the deaths: 465.2.c: 'Starting with the Attacker, each player assigns an amount of damage equal to their summed Might among the other's Units.' With 465.2.c.3: 'Units must have lethal damage assigned to them in full before damage is assigned to a different Unit. Example: If a player has 5 damage to distribute among four 3 Might units, they may not choose to assign 2 damage to one of the units and 1 damage to each of the remaining 3. They must assign at least 3 damage to one, and the remaining 2 to another.' Each defender asks for at least as much lethal as the damage it deals back (a body at a treated-0 Might asks 1 and deals 0), so when Sivir's 7 leaves 5 or more excess the garrison deals 2 or less, and Sivir (Might 7) is present at every Conquer where her clause fires. Damage already marked breaks it: 465.2.c.4 caps the assignment at the lethal still needed while the defender deals its full Might, so two Might 5 defenders with 4 marked each take 2 from Sivir, leave 5 excess and deal her 10. Contrast lotus-trap-morgana-excess-damage, where Lotus Trap lowers what the attacker assigns but not what the garrison deals back. Re-derived on 2026-10-26 from the rules above.
- THE POWER COST IS THE REAL PRICE. Sivir is E6 plus THREE Body Power, which is above the free floor of 2 Power a turn that 315.3.b's channel and 164.2.b's recycle give every deck — the rune deck has to be built for her. Frigid Touch is Energy only.
- WHAT REFUTES IT. (a) 'You may deal that much to an enemy unit' is one unit, not a sweep — 6 excess is 6 damage in one place. (b) Sivir must win the combat and CONQUER; against a battlefield she already controls there is no Conquer and 383.2.a.1 keeps the trigger off the Chain. (c) 470 and 485.4 cap her at two Conquers a turn. (d) Frigid Touch is a card per activation and 103.2.b caps it at three.
Steps
- Earlier turns: play Sivir, Ambitious (E6 + 3 Body Power). 143.4 makes her enter exhausted; 315.1.b readies her in your Awakening.
- Main Phase: Standard-Move Sivir into an enemy-held battlefield (144.4.a; 144.2 / 420.3.a). Contested applies (190.3.a.1, 450).
- The next Cleanup stages a Combat (323.9) and 323.13 opens it; 464.2.c.1 makes you the Attacker.
- In the Combat's Closed State, play Frigid Touch as a [Reaction] (813.1.c.1, 312.2.c) and pay its [Repeat] cost of 2 Energy: the chosen defender takes -4 Might this turn, with no floor.
- 465.2.c assigns Sivir's 7 Might. The shrunken body's Might is treated as 0 (143.2.b) but 143.2.a still needs nonzero damage, so 1 is the minimum lethal (465.2.c.4) and 1 is all she may assign. Excess: 6 (R28 = A).
- 466.3.a gives you the combat, 466.5 / 466.5.d establish Control and Conquer, and Sivir's trigger deals 6 damage to any enemy unit you choose.
Per iteration
one Conquer point plus 6 damage aimed anywhere on the board, for 4 Energy of spell and a body you were attacking with anyway
How it ends
engine only — two Conquers a turn (470, 485.4) and three Frigid Touches a game (103.2.b); nothing here gains a point beyond the Conquer itself

HAND-WALKED 2026-09-07 (issue #170), the second half of the excess-damage reduction lever. SFD-120 Sivir, Ambitious was in zero entries. Kept separate from tryndamere-thousand-tailed-watcher-shrink because the payoff is a variable amount of damage rather than a fixed point, and because the domains land in a one-legend identity: filtering the 94 legend base codes in cards.json for mind + body returns only VEN-149 and VEN-194 Defender of Tomorrow. Stands on R28 = A (ruled). Ban check: SFD-120 and SFD-066 carry no [BANNED marker. Arithmetic against its own declared quantities: M7 attacker, one M4 defender, excess 3 before and 6 after one Frigid Touch with its Repeat paid. Trap check: an attack IS required; [Repeat] gives exactly one extra execution (820.1.b) and is not an engine; no token, no [Temporary]; the reduction is a modifier, not a buff, so 702.3 is silent. Depends on no unruled reading beyond R28. REVISED 2026-10-26 (#472, the follow-up PR #471 listed for #464): CHECKED note on the defender's-swing notable: against a garrison with no damage marked, Sivir survives every combat in which her clause fires, since 5 or more excess from 7 leaves the garrison 2 or less to deal back (465.2.c, 465.2.c.3). No class or status change. No unruled reading beyond R28 = A.
