Combo · ENGINE
The sweep has to be TOTAL: Stare Down leaves the battlefield uncontrolled, which is the one word Yone's base strike depends on
Pieces
- Stare Down ×3
UNL-107 · engine · body
Choose a friendly unit and a battlefield. Move all enemy units at that battlefield with less Might than the chosen unit to their base. Gain 1 XP.
- Yone, Blademaster ×1
SFD-116 · payoff · body
[Weaponmaster] (When you play me, you may [Equip] one of your Equipment to me for 1 Power of any domain less, even if it's already attached.) When I conquer a battlefield that was uncontrolled, deal damage equal to my Might to an enemy unit in a base.
- Boneshiver ×1
SFD-118 · enabler · body
[Equip] 1 Energy + 1 Body Power (1 Energy + 1 Body Power: Attach this to a unit you control.)
When I conquer, channel 1 rune exhausted.
Payoff
Deck
- All three cards are mono-Body, so ANY legend whose two domains include Body runs the line (103.1.b.1). No legend is named because none is forced: no card here is Signature (103.2.d.2).
- One battlefield the opponent controls whose whole garrison is under 7 Might. That is the entry's real precondition and it is stated in the notables, not hidden in a step.
Prerequisites
- THE SWEEP MUST BE TOTAL, AND THAT IS THE WHOLE ENTRY. Yone's trigger is not 'when I conquer' — it is 'When I conquer a battlefield that was uncontrolled'. The word arrives only if Stare Down moves EVERY enemy body home: 323.6, 'Players lose control of any controlled Battlefields without their Units occupying them if the turn is in an Open State and there is no Showdown or Combat ongoing there', strips the opponent's Control at the next Cleanup only when their last unit has left. Leave one body of 7+ Might behind and three things go wrong at once — the opponent keeps Control, so the battlefield was never uncontrolled; Yone's move stages a COMBAT rather than a Showdown, because 323.9 marks a Combat 'at each Battlefield that Contested was applied to that have Units present controlled by opposing players'; and even winning that combat conquers a battlefield that WAS controlled (466.5.d), so 383.4.g.1 keeps the base strike off the Chain. A partial sweep is not a cheaper version of this line, it is a different line (see stare-down-arachnoid-horror-lone-survivor, which wants exactly that).
- THE THRESHOLD AND THE DAMAGE ARE THE SAME NUMBER, WHICH IS WHY BONESHIVER IS IN uses[] AND NOT IN A NOTE. Yone is M5. 434.1.d — 'The Top-Most Card has its Might modulated by the Might Bonus of all cards Attached to it' — plus 137.3 and 477.3.d put Boneshiver's +2 on him: M7. Stare Down chooses Yone, so it sweeps every enemy body under 7; Yone then deals 7. One card raises both bars by the same 2. A Might Bonus is NOT a buff (702 counter): 702.3's one-per-unit cap never touches it, and it does not collide with anything that buffs him.
- THE EQUIP IS NEARLY FREE, AND IT IS FREE ONLY ONCE. [Weaponmaster] reads 'When you play me', so 818.1 ('Equip is an Activated Ability keyword') and 818.1.b are paid at full price on any later re-attach: play Boneshiver first for E3, then play Yone and take the one-rainbow discount on its [Equip] cost of 1 Energy + 1 Body rune, which 356.6 ('Energy and Power costs can't be reduced below 0') leaves at 1 Energy and no rune. And 818.1's Equip is an activation, never a play, so nothing here fires a 'when you play' trigger twice.
- THE TURN AFTER, NOT THE TURN OF. 143.4 — 'Units enter the Board exhausted' — so Yone cannot Standard-Move the turn he lands, and 144.1.a confines the move to the Main Phase anyway. The engine runs from the turn after he arrives, with 315.1.b readying him in your Awaken. Boneshiver is gear and 143.4 speaks only of Units, so it attaches and works the turn it is played.
- THE CONQUER, RULE BY RULE, AND WHY NO DAMAGE IS TAKEN. Stare Down MOVES the garrison home; 455 makes a Recall a relocation 'without it being a Move', so this is a Move and 323.6 reads it. Yone walks in (144.4.a; the cost is his own exhaust, 144.2 / 420.3.a) and applies Contested (190.3.a.1, 450). The next Cleanup stages a Showdown (323.8) and NO Combat (323.9 needs 'Units present controlled by opposing players'), 323.12 opens it, 348.2.a establishes Control and 348.2.a.1 says outright 'This results in a Conquer'. 471.1 gives the point. Nothing is assigned any damage in either direction — 465.1's damage tasks never run — which is also why no [Assault] and no excess-damage card belongs beside this one.
- THE VICTIMS ARE NOT TARGETS. 355.10.d: an object is not a target when 'It is programmatically selected based on its characteristics rather than chosen', worked example "'Kill all units at a battlefield' targets a battlefield, but does not target any units." 'All enemy units at that battlefield with less Might than the chosen unit' is that shape, so a garrison of [Deflect] bodies is swept for free. Yone's own base strike is the opposite: 'an enemy unit in a base' is chosen, and 809.1.c / 809.1.d tax it.
- WHAT IT COSTS, WITH THE QUANTITIES DECLARED. Setup: Boneshiver E3, Yone E5 + 1 Body Power, the discounted [Equip] E1 — nine Energy and one Power, spread over a turn. Recurring, from the next turn on: Stare Down E2 plus Yone's own exhaust. Per bloodless Conquer it pays 1 point, 7 damage to a unit standing in the enemy BASE (a zone almost nothing in the pool reaches — OGN-229, OGN-234 and SFD-158 are the others that do not restrict themselves to a battlefield) and 1 rune channelled exhausted from Boneshiver's appended [Effect]. Three Stare Downs is the cap (103.2.b) and 470 allows one Score per battlefield per turn.
Steps
- An earlier turn: play Boneshiver (E3). Then play Yone, Blademaster (E5 + 1 Body Power) and use [Weaponmaster] to [Equip] Boneshiver to him for one rainbow less — 1 Energy, no rune (356.6). Yone enters exhausted (143.4) and is M7 (434.1.d, 137.3, 477.3.d).
- This turn, Awaken: 315.1.b readies Yone. Main Phase, Neutral Open State (144.1.a).
- Play Stare Down for 2 Energy, choosing Yone and the enemy battlefield. Its whole garrison is under 7, so every body moves to their base; you gain 1 XP. The victims are not targets (355.10.d), so no [Deflect] is paid.
- The Cleanup strips the opponent's Control (323.6). The battlefield is now unoccupied and uncontrolled — both halves of 170.11.c.
- Standard-Move Yone in (144.4.a; his exhaust is the cost, 144.2 / 420.3.a). Contested applies (190.3.a.1, 450).
- The next Cleanup stages a Showdown and no Combat (323.8, 323.9); 323.12 opens it. Everyone passes, 348.2.a establishes Control, 348.2.a.1 makes it a Conquer and 471.1 pays the point.
- Two conquer triggers go on the Chain together (383.4.c.2.a): Yone deals 7 to a chosen enemy unit in a base, and Boneshiver's appended [Effect] channels 1 rune exhausted.
Per iteration
one point, 7 damage into the enemy base, one rune channelled, and the enemy garrison sent home — for 2 Energy and one Standard Move
How it ends
engine only — three sweeps a game (103.2.b) and one Score per battlefield per turn (470), so at most two of these a turn in a Duel (485.4)

HAND-WALKED 2026-09-07 (issue #170), from the synergy rule stare-down-empties-the-garrison, whose 54-partner list had produced no entry: the rule pairs the bloodless Conquer with a conquer PAYOFF, and none of the three catalogued Stare Down entries has one. SFD-116 Yone, Blademaster was in zero entries. Card text verbatim from data/corpus_flat.txt. Citations opened and read in data/Riftbound-Core-Rules-2026-07-16.txt: 103.1.b.1, 103.2.b, 137.3, 143.4, 144.1.a, 144.2, 144.4.a, 170.11.c, 190.3.a.1, 323.6, 323.8, 323.9, 323.12, 348.2.a, 348.2.a.1, 355.10.d, 356.6, 383.4.c.2.a, 383.4.g.1, 420.3.a, 434.1.c, 434.1.d, 450, 455, 465.1, 466.5.d, 470, 471.1, 477.3.d, 485.4, 702.3, 809.1.c, 809.1.d, 818.1, 818.1.b. Ban check: UNL-107, SFD-116 and SFD-118 carry no [BANNED marker in data/corpus_flat.txt. Signature check: none of the three is in data/signature.src.json, so prerequisites.easy is a domain field and not a one-legend field (103.2.d.2). Arithmetic against its own declared quantities: M5 + 2 = 7 sets both the sweep threshold and the damage. Trap check: NO Attacker designation is ever handed out, so 807.1.d / 383.4.e / 461 cannot bite and no [Assault] or excess-damage card belongs here (465.1 assigns nothing); no token; no [Temporary]; no [Repeat]; the Might Bonus is not a buff, so 702.3 does not apply; all spending is Main Phase (167). Depends on no unruled reading.
