Combo · ENGINE
366.2.a makes a cost-altering passive live in every zone the card can be played from - Void Drone is 1 Energy out of the Sarcophagus, and 206 is why it is still 3 for any cost gate
Pieces
- Cursed Sarcophagus ×3
UNL-148 · engine · chaos
When you play this, banish all units from your trash. Exhaust: Play a unit banished with this. (You must pay its costs.)
- Void Drone ×3
SFD-010 · payoff · fury
I cost 2 Energy less to play from anywhere other than your hand.
Payoff
Deck
- Void Drone is mono-Fury and Cursed Sarcophagus is mono-Chaos, so the identity is Fury/Chaos and 103.1.b.2 needs a legend covering both. Measured over data/cards.json those are OGN-251 / OGN-301 Loose Cannon, OGS-017 Dark Child - Starter, SFD-185 / SFD-242 Glorious Executioner, UNL-185 / UNL-228 Bloodharbor Ripper and VEN-143 / VEN-191 Master of Shadows.
- Neither card is a Signature card (checked against data/cards.json), so 103.2.d.2 imposes no legend, and neither is banned or restricted in either format.
- Void Drone has to reach the trash before the Sarcophagus is played, since the Sarcophagus banishes from the trash once, on its own play trigger.
Prerequisites
- THE RULE, AND IT IS CITED BY NOTHING. 366.1: 'Passive Abilities of cards in zones that are outside of the Board will self-describe their context', whose worked example is a pool card by name - 'Undying Legion has a passive ability that reads "[Legion][>] You may play me from your trash for [3][C]." That passive ability only applies when Undying Legion is in the trash.' And 366.2 / 366.2.a: 'Passive Abilities can alter the costs of cards as they are played. These apply at all times in any zone from which the card with the ability can be played.' So Void Drone's -2 is live in the trash, in Banishment, and anywhere else it can be played from. 363, 364 and 366 are cited by no entry and no synergy rule in this project.
- AND THE SARCOPHAGUS IS THE ONLY PLACE IT IS WORTH ANYTHING. Every other route out of the trash in the pool ignores the Energy cost outright - OGN-198 The Harrowing, OGN-196 Soulgorger, UNL-142 Heedless Resurrection, UNL-179 Rift Herald's Deathknell, SFD-090 The Zero Drive - so a discount buys nothing there. UNL-148 Cursed Sarcophagus prints '(You must pay its costs.)', which is what turns 366.2.a into 2 Energy a turn: Void Drone comes back for 1 Energy, every turn, forever.
- 206 IS THE OTHER HALF AND IT REFUSES THE OBVIOUS UPGRADE. 'Effects that need to determine a card's cost for any purpose always use its printed or copied cost, even if that cost is increased, decreased, or ignored as the card is played.' So the discount is real for PAYING and invisible to any COST GATE: SFD-140 Fizz, Trickster's 'a spell from your trash with Energy cost no more than :rb_energy_3:' still reads Drag Under's printed 5, and UNL-142 Heedless Resurrection's 'costs no more Energy ... than the killed unit' still reads Void Drone's printed 3. The pool has exactly TWO cards with this passive, swept on the corpus: SFD-010 Void Drone (Fury) and SFD-164 Drag Under (Order).
- 397 MAKES THE SARCOPHAGUS'S POOL EXCLUSIVE, AND ITS WORKED EXAMPLE IS A POOL CARD. 'A component Linked Ability that references a Game Object affected by another Ability in the set may only interact with Game Objects affected by the Abilities it is Linked with', with 'Any units banished by effects other than component Linked Abilities in the same set as the activated ability cannot be played when resolving the activated ability.' So 'a unit banished with this' reaches ONLY what this Sarcophagus's own play trigger banished - no other banisher can feed it - and 395 scopes a linked set to one Game Object, so a second Sarcophagus does not share the first one's pool and finds a trash the first already emptied.
- THE RATE IS ONE BODY A TURN AND 381 IS WHY. The Sarcophagus's ability carries no [Action] and no [Reaction], so 'All Activated Abilities can only be activated on the Controlling Player's Turn and during an Open State' confines it to your own Main Phase; 315.1.b readies it every Awakening. Gear enters ready (143.4 exhausts only units), so the first activation is available the turn it is played - but only after something has already died into the trash.
- THE BODY ARRIVES EXHAUSTED AND AT YOUR BASE. 143.4 has it enter exhausted, so it walks on the following turn (144.4 confines the Standard Move to base and battlefield), and 355.2.a sends a played unit to 'the controller's Base or a Battlefield the controller controls'. This is a grinding engine, not a tempo one, and the entry prices it that way.
- WHY VOID DRONE AND NOT A BIGGER BODY. The Sarcophagus makes you pay full price, so the cheapest body is the most activations - and Void Drone is the only unit in the pool whose printed cost DROPS when it is played from the Sarcophagus. Any other 3-Energy body costs 3 there; this one costs 1, which is the entire content of 366.2.a.
Steps
- Run a Fury/Chaos legend and get SFD-010 Void Drone into your trash - played and killed, discarded, or milled.
- Play UNL-148 Cursed Sarcophagus (4 Energy + 1 Power). Its play trigger banishes all units from your trash, Void Drone among them. 397 makes that banished set the only thing its exhaust can ever reach.
- Gear enters ready (143.4 exhausts only units), so exhaust the Sarcophagus the same turn if the trash was already stocked: play a unit banished with this, paying its costs.
- 366.2.a applies Void Drone's passive in Banishment - 'These apply at all times in any zone from which the card with the ability can be played' - so its cost there is 3 - 2 = 1 Energy.
- It enters your base exhausted (143.4, 355.2.a) and walks on the following turn.
- Your Awakening readies the Sarcophagus (315.1.b) and 381 lets you activate it again in your own Main Phase: one body a turn for 1 Energy, for as long as the banished pool lasts.
- Do not expect the discount to open a cost gate: 206 keeps Void Drone's printed 3 for anything that checks a cost, including Heedless Resurrection's 'costs no more Energy than the killed unit'.
Per iteration
one 3-Might body a turn for 1 Energy, out of a banished pool no other card can feed or share
How it ends
engine only - one activation a turn (381 confines it to your Main Phase, 315.1.b refills it), bounded by how many units the Sarcophagus banished on its one play trigger; nothing here scores

HAND-WALKED 2026-09-07 (issue #187, uncited-rules-blocks slice: 363-366 Passive Abilities, with 393-397 Linked Abilities). 363, 364 and 366 are cited by no entry and no synergy rule in this project, and 366.1's worked example names UNL-025 Undying Legion by name while 397's names SFD-090 The Zero Drive. Card text verbatim from data/corpus_flat.txt. Citations opened: 103.1.b.2, 103.2.b, 103.2.d.2, 143.4, 144.4, 206, 315.1.b, 355.2.a, 366.1, 366.2, 366.2.a, 381, 395, 397. MEMBERS NAMED: the pool has exactly two cards with the 'cost less to play from anywhere other than your hand' passive, swept on the corpus - SFD-010 Void Drone (Fury) and SFD-164 Drag Under (Order); and the trash/banishment routes that make a discount worthless because they ignore the Energy cost outright are OGN-198 The Harrowing, OGN-196 Soulgorger, UNL-142 Heedless Resurrection, UNL-179 Rift Herald and SFD-090 The Zero Drive. Distinct from reksai-sarcophagus-accelerated-recursion (a different body and no cost-passive content) and from void-burrower-play-from-deck (which plays Void Drone from the DECK and prices no discount). Trap check: 206 refuses the obvious upgrade and the entry says so; the Sarcophagus is your-turn only (381) and its pool is exclusive (395, 397); the body enters exhausted at the base; no unruled reading.
